Is this tree ok?

I bought a house recently and I have some beautiful trees. However one of the neighbors pointed out one of my maples. I don’t know what kind it is. It has a lot of naked dead branches. We did have a pretty hot summer in CT and it’s south facing. Any thoughts?

Some closer photos would help to tell which tree it is, especially a good photo of some leaves, a twig, and the bark at a reasonable distance (I.e. not 6 inches away).  Mature trees that are starting to die back from the crown like that are often in trouble, but it’s tough to tell what’s going on without information.  Try taking a few photos of the base of the tree where it goes into the ground and post here again, folks should be able to help.  Many many trees are planted improperly, and they may not fully die until they are about this size, so it’s not unlikely that’s what you have going on.  Could be a fungus, bug, weather conditions, etc., but we need some more info.
