I don’t know if it’s that the black people are more racist than white people. I think it’s more the black population already knows where they stand with the whites while the whites who are racists will never say anything overtly racist but they will just not hire you for a job you’re qualified for, not give you the benefit of the doubt when necessary, not believe your pain level at the doctor’s office, not rent to you and will generally make your life harder without saying one harsh word to you.
Bossier isn't really that much better per capita for violence and crime. They just aren't as open about their crime and they don't have a web page where you can go see all of the active calls.
Furthermore, Bossier only exists because of racism. White people didn't want to be living near black people, so they moved to Bossier.
I don’t know about that. White flight has definitely happened within Bossier Parish with people moving out of the city to North Bossier, Benton, and Haughton, but I don’t know if people were leaving Shreveport during desegregation and moving to Bossier Parish. They may have in recent years, but I really doubt that back in the 60s and 70s.
Exactly why I despise Bossier. They like to pretend it’s so much “safer” which is just code for white. I’ve never felt safe in Bossier bc BPD will pull you over for any reason and they will not be kind about it.
It’s not really directly related to the tipping portion but to the racial divide in Shreveport. Race relations have always been shit here, but it really popped off during the Cedar Grove riots. I don’t think that wound ever healed. The race relations here are complex. It’s deep. And I don’t think it will ever change because it’s not just the people but the systems in Shreveport that keep things stirred up.
It's quite literally a different culture here. If black people are looking out for "their own" why shouldn't white people? If we could all stop doing this all together wouldn't it be cool? Of course. But both sides treat the "other" as the other and it's not stopping. If you have met WAY more white racists here it's because you're not "in" with the black people so they're not comfortable telling you. It's the same I guarantee it.
Dude, ask how many white kids are going to Booker T and get back with me.
Even in the supposedly "integrated" schools like Captain Shreve, they are de facto segregated internally. The AP courses are almost all-white, and the "general" courses are almost all-black. If you go to the lunch room, the black kids sit with the black kids, the white kids sit with the white kids. It was just normal when I was going there but then I moved out of state and discovered that no, this isn't how things are in other places.
I mean, Strawns had two entrances, the front entrance for white people and the back entrance for black people. Up until the day I left, three decades after official desegregation, most white people ate in the "whites" dining room and most black people ate in the "blacks" dining room, and most used "their" respective entrance.
I am white and have never once used the front entrance to their restaurant. I've parked in the back lot and walked up the stairs to the backdoor every time
I don't know what white people you're hanging out with, but the white people here are extremely racist. Some of it is subtle and some of them it is not. I've lived here my entire life and I also exist on social media. The racism is blatant and covert depending on the topic.
Dude, if you weren't born and raised here they aren't going to use the "N" word with you. But when I was teaching in Houston and visiting back home I was regularly asked by relatives whether I was teaching N-words. I would just give them the teacher glare, icy cold, and reply "They're children." Same visit, a different relative was complaining that her trailer house that she was renting was in poor repair, she said she'd been living in the projects which were in much better repair but there was "too many n-words there".
Yeah, racism in Shreveport is "polite" racism. Use of the n-word happens behind closed doors, not to your face. My property manager told me he wasn't sure whether I should rent to a couple. I asked, "are they employed?" "Yes." "Do they have a good rental history?" "Yes." "Do they make enough money to pay the rent?" "Yes." "So why wouldn't I want to rent to them?" "Well, he's a n-word and she's white." "So? Rent to them."
He was honestly concerned that I would berate him and maybe even fire him if he rented to a mixed-race couple. But he never used the N-word to their face. Only to me, who he had known since I was a tiny kid. Because that's Shreveport.
I haven’t lived in Houston for years, true. But the incident where a local store owner relative would not sell his store to a black person and instead sold it to a white person for less money was just a few years ago. As was the cousin complaining about the half black kids on my rental property. If you aren’t related to these people or grew up with them you won’t see it, they will stick the knife in a black person’s back ten minutes after greeting them with a smile. But it’s there.
I don’t know why your bein down voted this is the truth an even if they arnt racist they have their internalized prejudice ideas the culture here specifically in bossier is very anti black. It’s not in your face hostility it’s in the hiring, medical care and other things they block you from I’ve witnessed it as a black woman that’s moved here from the Caribbean I’ve had to learn about racism because we dnt have that in my country it’s mostly classism. I’m not saying all black Americans are angels but the systems put in place to oppress them have made them function in a constant state of survival mode. OP might have had good intentions with their post but she herself has bias I’ve worked in the service industry. Even in my personal life I know a lot of black ppl that tip generously, her post has welcomed the racist comments disguise as positive feedback from those that dnt like black ppl. But anyway that’s my 5 cents on the matter.
Alllllll of this. I find it hysterical I'm being down voted. How very on brand to deny the covert racism 😂
To be honest, many don't realize they are racist. I used to be like them. I know how they think. They can't fool me 🤷♀️😂
