Turismo 🧳 Would love feedback from locals about potential cultural difference that I am not understanding

Upvotes

I am visiting Sicily and am booking a 1 day canyoning tour with “Sicilia Adventures.” We are doing a dry canyon tour, and because we are doing a 2 person tour there is no option to book online off their website (they only have options to book group tours or 4 person tours, a 2 person tour is different pricing). We have been communicating through email, but they aren’t responding to my question about how we can pay, and there just haven’t been very much clear communication. I didn’t even know the initial we had booked via email wasn’t available anymore until I emailed to clarify some details. It all just seems very casual and disorganized, and I don’t feel very confident. We will be abseiling so mine and my husbands lives are literally in their hands. I am curious though, is this lack of organization and clear communication just a cultural difference? Are they not worried we will no show? Do they not want to be paid beforehand?

Turismo 🧳 How to divide four days in Sicily between Taormina, Catania and Siracusa

If you had four days to spend in Sicily, starting in Taormina, how would you divide your time between Taormina, Siracusa and Catania?

Would you recommend skipping one city in favor of another, and in which city would you spend more time?

I am gonna spend 4 nights in catania(18-22 september)I am using it as a base to visit Taormina, Mount Etna, Forza d'agro and savoca and also obviously catania too. We are 4 persons and are looking for 2 rooms. We can't find anything. Do you have any suggestions regarding the best places to sleep in catania? Affordable but most importantly available.

Cibo 🍊 “Belpasso food and restaurant recommendations”

Good evening! In about a week I’ll be heading to Sicily and staying in Belpasso for a week. The main goal of my trip is to try as many traditional dishes as possible. Since I’ll have a car, I can easily move around, but I was wondering if anyone could recommend one of those fish shops where you can eat raw fish?

Here’s my food bucket list so far—any tips or suggestions are very welcome! • Lots and lots of raw fish • Fried fish • Tuna and swordfish • Cannolo • Cassata • Cremolata • Granita with brioche • Arancini • Pani ca meusa • Pane e panelle • Pasta alla Norma • Horse meat

Turismo 🧳 Vacation Tips

Hi everyone!! Me and my girlfriend are flying to Sicily at the beginning of October for 4 days. We’ll land in Catania, but we’ve heard that the beaches nearby aren’t the nicest. We’d love to stay somewhere within a reasonable distance from the airport that has nicer, preferably sandy beaches.

Do you have any recommendations for good areas to stay in, plus some tips for interesting places to visit and local food we shouldn’t miss?

Thanks a lot!

Altro Parking for the week in Messina/Catania

Hello! In a few weeks we will be traveling to Sicily and we are very excited. We will arrive by car in Messina and will rent a bigger car there, as we are going to be traveling with friends.

We would like to safely park our own car in a private / guarded parking area near Messina or Catania for a week. Any advice on or experience with parking spots would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks 😄

Turismo 🧳 October travel Itinerary feedback - 2 weeks from Catania to Palermo

Ciao, I'm really looking forward to a (just under) two week trip to Sicily with my partner. Our plan is to mix exploring the breadth and diverse culture of island with some relaxing in between. We're both from the UK and love cultural things: food, history, and photography. We generally prefer hidden gems to tried and tested places, but will make exceptions. Our proposed route would take us from Catania, south through Syracuse, across to Agrigento, then up to Trapani before flying back from Palermo. Reluctantly, we'd miss Etna, Taormina and Cefalu, which honestly feels criminal. We would rent a car in Catania and Ideally drop it off in Trapani before doing the rest by public transport.

I have a couple of questions outstanding
1) Does anything feel too duplicative on the route? eg towns/landscapes that might offer very similar experiences and might be skipped?
2) Is there enough scope for relaxing in these places - or are we doing too much?
3) Are there any interesting things to see/eat/explore on the route we might want to consider, or alternative places to stay?
4) Are we fucking up by going south, then west, rather than north, then west?
5) Any wildly alternative itineraries to consider? I've booked hotels but they're all cancellable.

PART ONE: Catania & South East
Day 1: Arrive in Catania late. Stay in Catania overnight near Via Etna
Day 2: Explore Catania and stay one further night.
Day 3: Rent car, drive to an Agriturismo near Lido Di Noto/Riserva Vendicari - chill and explore the area and eat at the Agriturismo
Day 4: Day in Syracuse/Ortigia, dinner there, stay in the same Agriturismo near Lido Di Noto.
Day 5: Beach or hiking day, stay in same agriturismo near Lido Di Noto. Riserva Naturale Cavagrande del Cassibile or a local beach.
Day 6. Drive to Modica and explore. Potentially see Ragusa/Ibla as well. Stay overnight in Locanda Gulfi (hotel near Chiramonte Gulfi) for good wine & food

WEEK TWO: Agrigento, Trapani and Erice
Day 7: Long drive to Agrigento in the morning. See temples in the evening and stay nearby in a hotel. Recommendations welcome - either in the town or village not too far away.
Day 8: Drive to Sciacca to wander around and buy pottery, and/or Menfi for wine tasting. Stay in Menfi.
Day 9: Drive to Trapani Airport to drop off car and continue into town centre. Mooch around then stay in historic centre.
Day 10: Day Trip to Favignana, cycle around, live the good life (weather permitting), stay in Trapani.
Day 11: Something else in Trapani (salt flats?) then over to Erice. Stay in Erice to maximise chances of a clear view/photograph in the evening or morning.
Day 11: Get bus from Erice to Palermo (sadly waving at Zingaro Nature reserve, which I don't think we can fit into this itinerary). Stay in Palermo.
Day 12: Full day in Palermo.
Day 13. Half day in Palermo, then fly home.

Any tips, recommendations, thoughts or challenges greatly appreciated.

Turismo 🧳 One month trip to Palermo- day trip ideas that are child friendly?

My family and I rented an apartment for the month of October and will be based in Palermo. It will be our first trip to Sicily and I would love some suggestions for day trips and/ or hikes. My four year old can do about 1.5 miles so nothing too adventurous for hikes :) We will not have a car, so boats, bus etc would be needed to get there. Grazie!

Turismo 🧳 Public Transport in Taormina

Altro Comprereste una casa a San Vito Lo Capo come investimento?

Turismo 🧳 Can anyone tell me about Licata?

We are renting a villa for 5 nights next June just outside of Licata. 3 out of 4 of my grandparents came from this small town so I’m very curious about it. Along with the Temple in Agrigento, what interesting areas might be driving distance from here?

Turismo 🧳 Catania airport customs

I'm on a direct flight to Catania that lands around 7am. What can I expect at the airport in terms of the wait time at customs/imigration? And what mode of transport to Syracuse would you recommend, bus or train? Thanks!

Foto e Video 📸 Overtourism in Sicily: how to overcome it?

In Taormina, I saw crowded beaches, steep prices, and frustrated residents.

The same situation is now happening in Noto, Syracuse, Palermo, and San Vito lo Capo.

Tourism risks turning into quick consumption, lacking value, culture, and, most importantly, 'beauty.'

How can work and quality of life be balanced for those who live there?

Do you think that overcrowding will lead travelers to seek out more authentic destinations?

Altro Best route from Catania airport to Adrano nord station?

What is the best way from Catania airport to Stazione di Adrano Norde? I have been looking but I see bus route from the airport to the station. But I know there is the Ferrova Circumetnea which goes around Etna as well. I’m just confused which to take.

Turismo 🧳 Packing for Sicily

What are things you wish you would have packed, and things you wish you had left at home for a 2 week trip to Sicily? I'm leaning toward minimal changes of clothes as we will have access to do laundry the first week. My wife, on the other hand, always over packs. Our travel time is Sept. 6-20.

Turismo 🧳 Planning Sicily

I am planning a trip to Sicily in October for 7 days and looking to fly into Catania and explore the coast from there heading both north and south. From a logistical standpoint, what makes the most sense: do we stay in Taormina or Naxos as a home base and rent a car to explore Siracusa, etc., or do we split our time and stay around Taormina for a few days, then stay in Siracusa/ Oritigia? Also welcome recommendations on places to stay! Looking for a mix of culture, definitely beach time, food, and some nature!
