Gear (Microphones, etc...) I want to use a tube amp for vocals at home. I need more information on how this works though...

I love playing guitar through tube amps. It's beautiful and addictive. I want to do the same thing with my voice like you hear on rock music recordings. It's just not as simple to learn about this using Google as it is for tube amps for guitar. I was thinking about getting something like this.

art-tube-mp-studio-v3-preamp-di-box

If you Google that you'll see that it is a tube amp (well a hybrid tube/solid state but I figure I'll get something out of it)

How do you even use one of these for vocals? Are there good tube amps for vocals that are COMPLETELY tube that are in like the $600 and below price range?

I'm just wanting to sing through a tube amp..especially if I can crank it and get a nice sound ( I can use an attenuator if needed). It's just not as simple as googling information about guitar tube amps...

Gear (Microphones, etc...) Is there any method to make your voice sound "hoarse"?

To make it clear, I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT TECHNIQUES AND VERY IN-DEPTH SINGING THINGS! Don't judge if i say something stupid.

I saw this part of Marina singing this song and I really wanted to know if it was a method she used, or if her voice was really just hoarse for her to sing like that. If anyone knows, please help me.

Gear (Microphones, etc...) Female singer beginner - What microphone to use for a loud and high singer?

Hi! (◍•ᴗ•◍)

I just started singing and I'm currently using an Elgato Wave 3 as my singing mic and while it does get the job done for most of the time, its just not working out when I'm singing louder or higher. I've provided an example Clip.
(Don't mind my bad singing, I just have fun doing it).
But I wanna upload some covers soon and even when I'm 7 metres away from the mic at the other end of the room, it still distorts like crazy when I sing higher songs like Queen or Phantom of the Opera. So I think it's time to get myself a mic that's for singing only.
These are the ones I've seen recommended in my research so far:
(My budget is around the 500-800€ mark, but I'm also happy if theres a cheaper solution)

- AKG C214
- Lauten Audio LA 220 V2
- Rode NT1-A
- WA87 R2

Example Clip of the distortion:

VERY LOUD! Examples of the distortion when I sing really high. The microphone can't pick it up :((

Many people also recommended the Shure SM7b but I don't think thats gonna work for my problem, since its frequency response doesn't seem to cover the higher ends and focuses more on the lower, but my voice isn't that deep anyways lol. I'm not sure what singing type I am, since i can sing quite deep but also very high. That makes it even more difficult to find the right mic for my voice.

Gear (Microphones, etc...) "Soundproof" Box for my girlfirend for singing

Hi

My girlfriend is an amateur singer and practices singing at home. We live in an apartment and this bothers most of the residents in the block. I came up with the idea of making a "box" for her 1,5m x 0,85m x 2m. The frame would consist of PVC pipes and the casing of acoustic blankets and acoustic foams. Do you think this makes sense? What else would you add? Chat GPT helped me with something like this:

My goal is to reduce as much dB as i can. When she is singing its something about 90dB - My goal is to reduce to 40+-dB

Thanks guys for help and best wishes from Poland

Gear (Microphones, etc...) Singing into microphone.

Hello, I have a microphone that I connect to audacity and sing into it while wearing headphones.

There's a little delay despite adjusting the buffer, and I find it extremely confusing. I am unable to sing this way. I don't understand how people do it?

What app can I use to hear my vocals live through the mic? It'd be nice if in the app you can also apply some effects live.

EDIT: I found reaper but I still get confused by listening my voice through the headphones and external sound. How do I manage it?

Gear (Microphones, etc...) Bought headphones with no mic, which mic should I buy for recording vocals?

So I like to sing by myself on singing apps, and was told audio technica is good for recording vocals, only to realize the version I bought doesn't have a mic. Frustrating. Then I saw I need to buy the blue yeti, unsure if I should buy original or the nano, as some have said its muddy. Which affordable one should I get that I can plug into my laptop and possibly into my type c adapter as I have an iphone 16.

Gear (Microphones, etc...) Should I learn to play guitar?

I don’t know if it’s a sign or not but ever since I said I wanna learn to play some type of instrument so when I sing I’m not just hearing my awkward voice. I feel like I would sound a bit better if I knew how to play an actual instrument and not just recording myself do karaoke because for some reason I hate how I sound even more with an instrumental of the song I’m singing from YouTube in the back. It just doesn’t sound right. But anyway should I learn to play guitar with 0 experience whatsoever? And if so how because I don’t wanna buy a whole guitar, to get frustrated, and never wanna play again cause i am definitely the type to do so😭

Gear (Microphones, etc...) Live performance mic recommendations for my young daughter?

In a bizarre genetic miracle, our almost 7-year-old daughter LOVES singing and has natural music talent (unlike us and all of our extended family). She has memorized close to a dozen songs (some in other languages) and wanted to go busking. We went to a local marina with a small stage, she got on and sang. But she refused to use the cheapy, kid microphone we have (she says she hates how her voice sounds in it, and, obviously, we couldn't convince our talent otherwise). She performed for close to half an hour (while her younger sister rolled on stage), but no one heard her and hardly anyone paid attention (except for our small cheering squad).

Still, she loved it and wants to go back, better prepared. I know she needs a quality microphone, but I don't know where to start. The tech jargon is too much and some of the higher quality options are very pricey. Do we need a whole speaker to attach the microphone to? How would this work? What kind of mic does she need? Does she need to have a big mic she holds or is there a quality lavalier option? Please explain this to me like you would to a savvy toddler. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Gear (Microphones, etc...) Do I need to buy a nebulizer specifically marketed toward vocalists?

Going to college soon, trying to find a good nebulizer because I have a bad track record with seasonal allergies messing with my voice, and the one time I used my friend’s nebulizer, it really worked wonders.

I want to buy one for myself but the ones specifically marketed toward singers are $100+. Meanwhile on Amazon there are nebulizers for ~$40, but these all seem to be sold for, like, respiratory purposes, not singers. I understand that if I buy one of the latter, I have to put saline solution in it, and not albuterol which is probably what’s intended to be put in it.

Anyone have any insight? I really don’t wanna spend more than I have to for the same product but I’m not about to accidentally hurt myself using a tool I know nothing about 😅

Gear (Microphones, etc...) Voice Changing Hardware Device for singing?

Hey guys,

I am looking for a real time voice changing device that can connect to a USB mic for singing. I tried web Kit.ai for voice changing but their models cannot pronounce words in my language properly. Then I tried the software: Hitpaw Voicepea, same thing. I also tried its real-time Voice Changing, it works good with pronouncing but the audio is distorted at high DB and high pitch. I figure that a Hardware Realtime Voice Changing Device should solve my problem, but I don't know what to buy. The information on the internet is not detailed. Can anyone give some suggestion?

I want to buy a budget range mic, for recording vocals and guitar, I saw the Behringer XM8500 but I also see it Has some issues, there's also some t.bone mics which are quite cheap, like the MB85 and MB85 Beta, i don't want to exceed the 50$ price range.

Gear (Microphones, etc...) Microphone that plugs into PC

My son has been using Earmaster to learn to sing. He has been using my camera/microphone combo I use for Zoom meetings, but it does not pick up low end and he has to sing an octave up. Can someone recommend a microphone I can plug into my PC that will pick up low end? Something not too expensive. Thanks.

Gear (Microphones, etc...) Go to way to use mics for outdoor/no electricity gigs?

Hello! I’ve been wanting to sing more outside/less restricted to power outlets- my initial thought was trying to find a cheap rechargeable power bank that I could plug my amp into for my mic/guitar but I don’t know how quickly that drains battery and I’m sure this is a common dilemma and that there would be more experienced musicians with some advice, preferably the cheapest most efficient way possible as I am a broke college student.

Gear (Microphones, etc...) Good earplugs for hearing your voice in your head?

I used to have a pair of Alpine music pro earplugs. I didn't have to think much of stage monitoring, because the earplugs made me hear my own voice really well "in my head" as my voice has kind of been trapped by the earplugs. Then I lost them, and ordered new ones. Now they seem to work "too well" and I don't hear myself as much. Tried different filters. Does anyone know of earplugs that, at least for you, have made it so that you hear your own voice well? And which are also reasonable for music/for their normal purpose ...

Gear (Microphones, etc...) Keyboard/piano for pitch training

Hi all!

I am trying properly learn how to sing and using music sheet to check if my notes are on pitch with my guitar. However, I got the feeling that guitars are not actually the easiest way to do it, and all the yt videos I watch singers are using pianos to guide their studies. I have two questions:

1)does it worth/make difference to get a keyboard for the sole purpose of improve my singing learn experience or it will likely be the same as using the guitar?

2) and more important - which keyboard/piano do you guys recommend ?

I am looking for something in a price range compatible with the fact that it will be used more like a pitch reference than as an actual instrument (although it would be cool to actually learn it). I looked at r/piano but there is some stuff that is important for piano players that I am not sure will make a difference to my purpose.

Gear (Microphones, etc...) Pls help

So I just got a new mic which is supposed to be good and has good reviews (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GQT8879?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1#averageCustomerReviewsAnchor) but no matter what I do when I try recording with it it comes out super gainy/distorted. I've spent 4 hours messing with audio settings and recording level/volume and compression and all that and nothing seems to fix it. I've also tried going farther from the mic but it doesn't really help. Does anyone have any advice?

Gear (Microphones, etc...) Searching for a new microphone

As the title says, I’m looking for a condenser mic that gives “crisp” vocals, think like Tecca’s new album (Dopamine). Something bright, polished, but not too sibilant or harsh. Also, if it could handle like louder vocals well, that would be nice.

My budget is in the $200-$300 range, but because I’m asking for like such a specific mic, I can already imagine the price of one being higher than that. I’d rather spend more money and get a better sound than cheap out and be disappointed.

I currently use a Focusrite Scarlett Solo (2nd Gen), if that matters at all. Let me know if you need any more details or information and I’d be more than willing to supply.
