Picked up for $500nzd for Japan trip. Any recommendations for bindings on a budget?

Peak atris top sheet. Great buy!

Been riding these for years now. Absolutely beat to shit but they are my favorite sticks I’ve ever been on. (And the construction is the exact same as OP’s skis - he is in for a treat.)

Strive 14/16

Strive 16’s are a bit pricey, found a pair of $300nzd Atomic Strive 14’s but they have a 130mm brake on them. Reckon that would be fine on the 108mm?

Too wide of a brake isn’t good for you. You’ll notice the brake grinding on the ground when you get on an edge. Try finding a 110-115mm brake. 100 is too small or you’ll need to bend it

Yeah 110mm seems to be a little easier to find, will go with that then

I'd say get the 100mm brakes for 108

Edit: 115mm might work too but it's gonna be a little wide

Not sure of price in NZ, but Tyrolia Attack 12s are my go-to budget bindings. I think $115USD or something shit stupid like that.

Attack 11s are cheaper construction, 12 and higher are the better construction if I recall, but there's a significant premium (in price) jump when you go to 13+

Reckon the pivot 12’s would be better than the Griffon’s? Been scared off from the griffon’s by spending too much time on this subreddit. For context I’m an advancing intermediate

Always go pivot

Get good bindings and cheap skis.

Love this ski. I have Attack 13s on them. No complaints.

I mounted Attack 14 on my Atris. Love the combination.

I have Pivot 15 on another ski, great binding too. But for the cost savings and weight savings of Attacks I don’t think I’ll be buying new pivots anytime soon.

That is the tyrol attack but this person seems to be going to New Zealand to Japan. Prices might differ

Where are you going to ski them?

Park In bounds Out bounds?

Mix of in bounds and off-piste. For Japan the focus would be on as much out bounds as possible. I have resort boots but wouldn’t mind the option of being able to get into touring eventually - just limited by money at the moment

Torpedo7 has a decent sale on now

They do yeah but the whole Griffon stigma has scared me a bit. Unfortunately the Salomon’s are all 100mm brake sizes too

I have Shifts on my old pair of Atris and am mounting the newer Shifts on my new pair of Atris. I have maybe 250 days on the first pair and the Shifts only disappointed me maybe 10 times - early ejections due either to slip in forward pressure or snow under heel. Love the Atris! Ski pretty well and tour well enough knowing they aren’t a touring-first binding. I stuck with Shifts because I still think they are best for my purposes - occasional side country tours and I am pretty light and don’t huck huge cliffs (have a dedicated backcountry setup that is much lighter so these are more side county setup). Salomon apparently fixed the issues with the gen 1 Shifts. That being said, on a budget, I bet you could get 1 Shifts on a great deal (I got some at a local shop clearance last year for $150 for some Blizzards I am selling to go back to Atris).

I've just picked up a couple of pairs of Tyrolia Attack 14 GW for 89 euros. (177 nzd) Mine came from (Austrian indy maker of insanely good skis) Down Skis and I dunno about shipping but the Attack is an amazing quality binding and you may find some good deals locally TYROLIA Attack² 14 GW YELLOW - DOWN SKIS // O+ GMBH https://share.google/jY677FDF7FM9fUiR8

Insane deal, I’ve got the Salomon version of these on my Mirus Cor’s dude. Good binding
