OC Video Chile got buried with 5 feet of new snow that just hit the Andes mountains.

Valle Nevado, the ski resort near my hometown Santiago, got dumped on. 1.5m or 5 feet of snow coming from an atmospheric river that hit the Andes for 2 days straight.

look at my gear "Do you guys have problems with ski masks that freeze solid, fog your goggles, and become useless when you need them most?"

I got tired of this on blizzard days, so I designed a modular system that actually works:

  • Rigid 3D frame keeps the protective fabric off your face - so even if it freezes, it's not stuck to your skin
  • Goggle seal prevents fogging by channeling breath away from your eyewear
  • Fidlock magnetic connectors for easy on/off even with thick gloves
  • Modular design - headpiece covers ears/chin, frame handles wind protection, everything works with any helmet/goggle combo

Still dialing in some details (pattern making is brutal - hundreds of prototypes), but the core system works.

What's your biggest frustration with current face protection? Always looking for real-world feedback.

Gear question AI in graphics - Burton

Upvotes

So a while back there was a lot of interest into whether the Burton 26 Custom is AI generated

https://www.reddit.com/r/snowboarding/s/Ph6AVeXm5e

In previous seasons, or at least last season, Burton seem to have released details on the artists who designed the graphics.

https://www.burton.com/blogs/the-burton-blog/the-artists-behind-burtons-2025-board-graphics/

I’m in the market for a Custom X so I wrote to Burton asking whether it was AI generated.

This is their response:

‘Hey (my name - redacted),

thanks for reaching out to us and being so invested in our products designs, that shows a real rider. The Custom X design is not AI generated. Unfortunately I don't have more details on who or how we made it, but I can assure it's man made.

I hope that solves the question, have a good one.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to me. Best Regards,

(burton employee name - redacted) Burton Guide Europe Burton Europe’

I then asked out of curiosity if the new Custom, the one which has so much debate about it, was AI generated. They replied ‘no it’s no AI generated, luckily’.

So this really is just info for the sub. Part of me kind of thinks in the modern age board companies need to take the threat of AI seriously and if they don’t use it, shout from the hills if that’s the case and release the artists names.

general discussion Sure I can fly this plane, I just don't know how to land it. THE REAL METHOD, back bent backwards, Craig Kelly board optional, but recommended. Next up: hard trick to learn. But not so impressive. You know the guy shreds, but you're not gonna whip out a camera to film him.

general discussion Read this if you can't decide between Supermatic vs Step-on vs Fase

Upvotes

This question really depends on a few different factors. I’ve tried all systems, and honestly, each has its own pros and cons.

Key things to consider

Two main factors usually determine which system works best for you:

  1. Your back flexibility
  2. Whether you’re a casual or hardcore rider

If bending down is an issue

If you prefer not to (or physically can’t) bend down, then your options are basically Nidecker Supermatic or Burton Step-On.
I have some back issues myself, so bending down to tighten bindings is tough. Because of that, I’ve spent a lot of time riding both Step-On and Supermatic. In terms of speed, the F.A.S.E. entry system is on par with Step-On/Supermatic, so time isn’t really a deciding factor anymore.

Step-On vs. Supermatic?

Here’s how I’d break it down:

  1. Already own boots? → Go with Supermatic.
  2. None of the Step-On boots fit you? → Also Supermatic.
  3. Ride mostly in indoor ski domes? → Step-On (lighter setup).
  4. Ride a lot in knee-deep snow? → Supermatic

So not picking step-ons? Supermatic has freedom in boots. Period.

Casual vs. Hardcore

If you’re more of a casual rider, either system can work depending on your needs.
If you’re hardcore and want the most versatile setup, I’d just go with F.A.S.E.

Riding question Would you get a lesson as an intermediate rider?

Hey y'all. I've been snowboarding casually since I was 15 and I'm now in my early thirties. I really only got super serious the past maybe 5 years. I'm comfortable on most trails, love being in the trees, and can hit boxes/jumps and handle grabs but I don't hit 180s. I feel like my riding was advancing every year and then the last two seasons plateaued. Don't get me wrong I am totally happy and grateful just being out there but I do miss the feeling like every season I'd progress in some way. Has anyone ever gotten a lesson to try to move from intermediate to advanced? I literally only ever hear about beginners taking lessons so I'm just curious if anyone has felt like this is a worthy investment or if I should just stick to YouTube videos and sending it.

travel advice Anyone has experience snowboarding with UCPA?

|| || |HI folks! I am a newish snowboarder (I've had 2 days of lessons, and maybe 4 days of snowboarding in the past). Am interested in their full-time snowboarding courses, but they only offer them in these 2 resorts - Val D'Isere and Serre Chevalier. Was wondering if anyone has had any experience recently from either of these 2 places? I hear the accommodations at D'isere are pretty poor but that Chevalier is more quiet? Planning to go mid to late Jan 2026.|

Gear question Is Nitro Prime or Cinema good as first board?

So I've been snowboarding for 2 years and decided to buy my first board for this season. And my question is will Nitro Cinema or Prime be good as my first board? I have 175 cm (8.9 in) and my shoe size is 44/45 EU (US 10/11). Btw I want to start learning tricks, should I start or it's to early? Any tips?

Gear question Shadowban or Algorithm for Big Boys

Trying to take advantage of some summer deals but not sure which board. I’m 5’9” and 220lbs. I would like a size 157 but am afraid I’m too heavy for the shadowban. Should I opt for the algorithm since it sounds like it has extra carbon? I’m just looking for something that likes to pop but value slower speed riding rather than a super fast mountain missile.

Gear question Let's talk Bataleon

I'm curious what people who ride/have ridden or even just done a demo have to say.

I'm aware of 3BT, what I'm interested in is the difference/similarities between boards and bindings. Especially from those who have ridden multiples.

For example: comparing the fun.kink to the Goliath and the thunderstorm.

Same for bindings.

Flex, pop, terrain, conditions, etc.

What bindings would you put on each board and why?

Which board binding combo would you buy as a 1 board quiver?

What is your personal favorite board and binding?

If you could buy 3 boards and two bindings, what would you buy?

Riding question Niseko Bus and Lodging

Hello my Niseko experts. Headed there in December for some snowboarding. Landing in Sapporo, and wanted to see if there was a bus company anyone particularly favored to get us here?

Also, any underrated hotels or AirBnBs you guys know about? A small part of me is thinking we should rent a car which will allow us a bigger area to scour for rooms.
