Nitro Dinghy vs K2 Excavator

Looking for a powder freeride board to pair with my dancehaul that just doesn’t cut it for the heavy PNW/ tracked pow I ride or the summit lift higher speed runs. Looking for something that floats well and can charge through chop and won’t just come out on pow days

I have dancahaul / almanac / excavator. Almanac is just a more stable Dancehaul. Excavator really cuts through the crud though it’s super stable. I’m primarily in light snow though.

I think so, they ride so different even though on paper they’re comparable dimensions.

Yeah especially if it’s heavier. Blower they’re the same. Almanac is plenty fine in pow though

Ah makes sense. I got a bunch of freeride boards, BSOD, flagship, alternator, so I wanted something fun to mess around with.

Im thinking the power of the dinghy will blow through stuff even more from what I’ve read so leaning that route

K2 alchemist is a great board if you’re into free ride. The board has great float and is the exact opposite of the dancehaul. I have an alchemist and dancehaul as my two board quiver and it works great for me. Alchemist is extremely versatile and a great all mountain board if you’re up to the task.

I'm in PNW, and have excavator. I've demoed Dinghy, but in CO with lighter snow. My sense is that excavator will be a little better in chop, the Dinghy is so turny, I'm not sure if will cut through, I feel like it will deflect and buck a little more when the pow gets tracked.

Dinghy only comes in a 155W unless they offer more this year, waist 267 mm. That's limiting for me because I'm a bigger dude at 6'2", 195 lbs and usually run 162/163 lengths. Let us know your specs. I was considering quite a few pow boards but ended up with the Excavator 158 which has a 268 waist. So less volume shifted, a little longer, and should handle some charging and tracked out snow pretty well compared to other pow boards as it's also on the stiffer side from what people say. 6’, 180lbs, size 10 boot. I considered going for a pure pow board but powder freeride I feel is more versatile for my quiver of 2 I’m going for.

A softer flex or non volume shift will excel in heavier/wet snow. I only bring my excavator out on days with medium to light density snow in the PNW.

Interesting, so you’d go dingy then? My experience with softer boards have been Bucky after the snow gets beat up

Not sure how soft the dinghy is but I've heard good things about the k2 almanac, the excavator is so stiff unless the snow is medium to light that it'll bounce you around in the chop, you need a softer board to help absorb it
