What is the appeal? Can you explain it to me. They remind me of my childhood and getting them as a consolation sweet that tastes like perfume and chalk.
179
u/sgtsturtle 11d ago
Perfume and chalk perfectly describes the taste. I, personally, love it.
48
u/Ok_Dimension143 11d ago
Exactly, the sweet does a good job of mimicking the texture and snap of chalk while making it palatable. What's not to love.

It's one of those flavours you either love or hate. Musk is a pretty strong flavour. Personally i am very much in agreement with you and i HATE it. A lot of men's scents use musk and i hate it so much i made my husband change his deo cause the smell of it made me naar.

Also eat Manhattan Senties? They’re jelly sweets that tastes a bit like perfume.
3

* These tasted better when I was younger. I swear they changed the mix. Anyway, what then were those small black squares that came in that tiny paper packet that also tasted like a perfume but were very herbal aswell?

I eat them from time to time just for the memories and nostalgia, my late granny used to always have lil bowls of them around the house..so I guess that's mainly why
9
u/Charles-Monroe Gauteng 11d ago
My 6yo likes them. We call them Oupa sweeties, because my dad used to liked them too.
Also, I think there's a correlation between people who like liquorice allsorts and these pink sweets.

This😂 Everyone in my family hates mint flavoured snacks like biscuits and chocolates. I learned to like them and now when anything mint flavoured is bought in our house I know that I get to have it all to myself with no worries of someone else getting to it before I do.
Sidenote: I've also learned that spearmint flavoured snacks usually taste like Colgate (at least for me) and so you should always opt for peppermint flavour where possible.

I was just slightly disappointed when I found out that my husband then boyfriend also enjoyed Turkish Delight. Meant I had to share instead of offer politely knowing someone would refuse.
Used to be gifted some really nice ones from the middle east when I was dating my partner.

I love Musk a lot, I’m Australian and we have a pretty divided opinion on it, it’s purely love or hate no in between. But they are so much better in Aus cause we eat them as Musk sticks basically just fondant stick so pure soft chewy sugar. They are extremely popular growing up and always have them in party bags after little kids birthday parties.

u/andronin 9d ago
Thanks, now i need a packet. Tbf I do eat the XXX ones, usually buy one musk one mine and finish them before I even make it to my car

You were obviously never murdered during a brutal skirmish when you were young. We played like we were a pack of wild dogs and it was a given, that every single one of us would meet an untimely end, some time during the day.
If you didn't have these sweets on your person, your parents would have to say goodbye and mourn your sorry ass forever. It was the only thing available to bring you back to life.
2
u/MaximumOdd1296 11d ago
OP, could you please explain to the Reddit community why you have a "personal vendetta" against this supposed shagadelic and musky sweets that have been in the market for more than 20 years?
Those sweets are okay though, but they are more or less the same than the XXX musk sweets (not the ABV or referring to the explicit material).
3
u/Beyond_the_one The opposite of efficiency, which is to say, justice 11d ago
They are gross and I believe they are older than humanity.
3
u/MaximumOdd1296 11d ago
If you can't beat them, join them? For some it's gross, but others take literal handfuls of these stuff.
1
u/Silly_Bookkeeper9319 Redditor for a month 11d ago
Weren't these the sweets used to make those candy bracelets? Just that on the bracelets they were different colours.
4
u/MaximumOdd1296 11d ago
Nope... They taste completely different from these Romantics. These are musky sweets..
2
u/Beyond_the_one The opposite of efficiency, which is to say, justice 11d ago
This is like sneaking crack-cocaine into sweets. But it isn't addictive and will probably make the kids health freaks for the rest of their lives because of the mental scars.

They are amazing, and I would chow a whole packet by myself!!
There are some you had to open the packet and just let it sit for a few hours and they would tend to slightly soften so they crush easily and don't feel like they going to take some of your teeth while eating them.
I'm an absolute fan of the flavour!
1
u/Slow-Relationship413 11d ago
Haven't had them in years, but I remember them having an addictive flavour, not good, not bad, but once you start eating you end up finishing the pack before you realise

We didn't ever go to the doctor for anything, instead you got half a disprin (and a pink pill if you were lucky).
Also, you're not allowed to have the disprin with coke, because that makes you drunk.
