Basketball Several WNBA players were denied entry into a nightclub after the All-Star Game this weekend. “We in the W (WNBA), and just got done with the All-Star game; we shouldn’t even be waiting in no line.”

The WNBA hadn't organized an after party?

That should be the headline.

2.7k

u/Breezyisthewind Jul 21 '25

There was. I guess either they didn’t want to go or weren’t invited.

1.5k

u/dtcstylez10 Jul 21 '25

They were at the all star game. There's no way they weren't invited to whatever party there was.

1.4k

u/Ox_The_Fox Jul 21 '25

This was one of the unofficial 'after the afterparty' parties, if any of you bothered to do research instead of taking a video cut to be rage bait at face value. They're trying to get in to a WNBA all star weekend party, hosted by another WNBA player, and the bouncer absolutely should have (and eventually did!) let them in immediately.

The club was almost at capacity so the club took a while to accommodate them but they got in.

WNBA aint got money for after parties. You play the game then go home.

106

u/O_J_Shrimpson Jul 21 '25

Yep. They’re also transported to and from the games in yellow school busses. It’s mandatory for them ride with the team. Chicago plays Las Vegas? Believe it or not, school bus.

If you will bring a crowd, you’re probly getting into a business that wants a crowd.

Like why wouldn’t a club let Denzel Washington skip line, people will come just because he’s in the building and some people will come because he was there last month

408

u/enad58 Jul 21 '25

If these girls could bring a crowd, they'd get paid like they could bring a crowd.

37

u/SkoolBoi19 Jul 21 '25

🤣🤣🤣🤣 this is the truth

→ More replies (7)

105

u/Remsster Jul 21 '25

I mean if they have a line and are already denying people they don't want/need celebs to bring in more.

51

u/SkoolBoi19 Jul 21 '25

Depends on the celebrity…… I used Denzel as an example because I’m a big fan of his. But depending on the scene and ownership, they would let the right celeb in regardless of how long the line is. Think Studio 54; it’s still famous because of the celebrities that went there 50+ years ago

18

u/FILTHBOT4000 Jul 21 '25

You also don't want popular celebs, and the free press that goes with them, going to a club competing with yours because you turned them away. It's very easy to lose your spot as the place to be in the club business.

→ More replies (1)

19

u/hertzsae Jul 21 '25

Usually VIP has empty spots. Getting big name celebs on a popular/crowded night keeps things busier on less popular/crowded nights.

It's a terrible business move to encourage celebs to go to your competitors by telling them that you're full without them.

I feel like nearly everyone in the WNBA is hell bent on getting the league the worst publicity possible. It seems like people want to like the WNBA now more than ever but the (vast majority of the) players/league are slamming the door.

2.5k

u/Downtown_Skill Jul 21 '25

Like I feel they see themselves as an extension of the NBA when really its an entirely different league. This is like a team from the national basketball league in australia trying to skip the line at a LA nite club or something.

"Yo, What are you talking about. We're the Tasmanian Jackjumpers, we ain't waiting in no line"

Delusional.

481

u/BustedWing Jul 21 '25

Mate, the Jumpjackers get in EVERYWHERE.

I bet they have zero issues getting into the brewery tour at the Cascade brewery on a weekend, the hottest club in LA is a layup for them.

335

Meh even cc wearing the "pay us like the men" shirt was insane. My sister in christ - no team turns profits

503

u/Daniiiiii Chelsea Jul 21 '25

Lose-Lose situation for her. She wears it in solidarity with the rest of the league, legitimacy of grievance aside, and she gets shit on.

If she doesn't wear it she will make headlines and even more enemies within the fraternity itself. Can't win.

u/theycallmefuRR Jul 21 '25

67

u/LaidToRest33 Jul 21 '25

It was "Pay Us What You Owe Us" not pay us like the Men. You are probably thinking of the US Women's National Soccer team who made that argument a few years back despite being offered the same contract as the Men but they turned it down in fa or or a different contract and then tried to back-track once they realized they would have made more money had they taken the same contract as the Men.

The WNBA players are starting the contract negotiations soon and the owners are currently trying to hide how much money they are making now that the WNBA has gained a lot of popularity because they want to pocket the profits and keep paying the ladies dirt. Very different situations.

They don't even get a cut of their own jersey sales which is ridiculous if you ask me.

50

u/king_lloyd11 Jul 21 '25

They want the same revenue split as the men though, even if it’s not the same dollar amount. That would be a way more ridiculous ask, but the players of a league that hasn’t made a profit since its inception asking for more money/for the league to go deeper in the red to pay them more still doesn’t make sense, especially when the WNBA is set to make money for the first time in its history.

The game is growing and so is revenue. Their salaries will grow too as a result, from their current splits. I just don’t think the first year you make money is the time to ask 5x increases. The NBA had to grind it out to get a piece of the billions the league makes. I think people just feel that the WNBA is getting ahead of itself based on one decent year.

21

u/13143 New England Patriots Jul 21 '25

The NBA and NBAPA have a 50/50 revenue split. The WNBA and WNBAPA have something like a 95/5 revenue split. The WNBA is about to sign a massive new TV deal, like $250 million. The WNBAPA want the financials shared and a bigger piece of that pie, neither of which the WNBA are currently open to.

The "Pay us what you owe us" kind of comes off wrong, but they have a legitimate gripe, and they're not just being delusional/greedy.

58

u/GentlemenBehold Jul 21 '25

I think it just takes time for people to come to their senses. There was definitely some jealousy of Tiger Woods by fellow golfers at the start of his career. Then they saw the purse sizes and sponsorship deals going up and realized his popularity was good for all of them.

There's probably many people waiting on line that makes more a year than these players.

557

u/Direct-Speech Jul 21 '25

75% of the line makes more than them

86

u/Tsikura Jul 21 '25

I don't know who they are as I don't watch a lot of WNBA games. If they were in they All-Star game, I'm giving them a slight benefit of the doubt that they might make a little more than average salary plus some kind of endorsement. From what I can see, none of these players are special. So yeah, 75% or maybe 95% is right.

155

u/ltshaft15 Jul 21 '25

WNBA players trying to skip a 100+ person line and saying “we’re in the WNBA, we shouldn’t be waiting” is peak entitlement. Hate to say it, but Caitlin Clark might be the only one with that kind of pull right now, and even she’d probably wait her turn.

Tough watch, honestly.

193

u/TheNextBattalion Jul 21 '25

Angel Reese is pretty identifiable with her eye lashes, and she’s also been in commercials and had a McDonald’s partnership.

I don’t think it’s too far of a stretch some people would know who she was along with CC

That's a little to much like asking, the shirt will say

"you owe it to us to let us cut in line."

u/-random-name- Jul 21 '25

They probably also expected free cover and free bottle service seeing as they can't afford it.

I was excited about the WNBA for a minute, and Caitlin Clark is why. I was discovering more players in the women's game, and loved JuJu Watkins at USC. These entitled people and their jealousy/hate/pettiness is so ugly, I turned the WNBA off for years now. There's plenty of drama in the NBA, too, but they all kind of get they're in it together, and work collectively to enhance the brand.

This is embarrassing, they were just asked to use the line like everyone else. Being in the W doesn't entitle you to celebrity treatment.

122

u/PizzaJawn31 Jul 21 '25

Absolutely nobody knows who any of these people are other than Caitlin Clark

About a decade ago, I was a doorman at a local brewery in Atlanta, my job was to simply check ID’s to prevent the brewery from losing their business / alcohol license.

Multiple players from the Atlanta Dream came in for some sort of private meeting or event and got upset with me because they had to show their ID at the door. They exhibited this EXACT behavior. One said “do you know who we are” to which I said “no, and you’re not getting in unless I see your ID”.

Not sure where this level of entitlement comes from but when I met/served names like A-Rod, Brian Jordan, or John Smoltz - none of them exhibited behavior like this.

O. M. F. G. They got to be so embarrassed.

u/Earl_Squire Jul 21 '25

That would require self-awareness

This is sad, in a pathetic and delusional sort of way.

And this is why they'll never get paid "what they're worth", because they're not actually recognizable by anybody. Whether it's right or wrong, almost nobody cares about the WNBA, or women's sports, in general.

Pick any player from the men's All-Star game and he's walking into whatever club he wants, and the whole line will be taking pictures and asking for autographs as he walks by.

Fame is a much higher echelon than pro athletics for either gender. If I can’t recognize the centerfielder for the Yankees I sure as hell won’t recognize who these ladies are

They're also playing in a league that makes no money and has been completely subsidized by the NBA since its inception. If they got paid what they're worth, they would be paying the NBA to exist.

I mean...didnt Shane Gillis low-key expose the truth about the WNBA with his joke about his friends wife?

29

u/SandMan3914 Jul 21 '25

And then there's Keanu standing in line at a party for one of his movies with the rest of us

What did they expect lol a high school kid locked up a WNBA all star guard…

10

u/langlda Jul 21 '25

Do they realize no one knows them outside of a handful of people.

12

u/Born-Media6436 Jul 21 '25

Wow. Just think of the zero people that were gonna buy them drinks. How disappointing.

30

u/ElSalvo Jul 21 '25

I had to double check, but the ASG was in Indy. Now forgive me but Indy doesn't strike me as a nightclub town lol. Look, there's a line for a reason, the place was probably full.

10

u/MuffinMate Jul 21 '25

I was looking for this comment lmao. Indy isn’t bad but still crazy.

Did 4x All Star Brittany Hicks get in?

Saying “We in the W” is not the flex you think it is 🤣

32

u/J-O-E-Y Jul 21 '25

As Shane Gillis just helpfully pointed out: no one knows WNBA players
