Soccer Awkward moment on German TV: Werder Bremen captain Marco Friedl swapped shirts with Frankfurt keeper (and former teammate) Michael Zetter after his side lost 1-4. He gets asked by a reporter if he's happy with the win, answers: "I'm a Bremen player in case you don't know"

maybe she thought it's Robin Koch?

Yes, and they look very alike to be honest. And it was not just her who made that mistake. The whole crew messed up but of course some idiots now think they have proof that women shouldn’t work in football

I've seen men reporters do worse. The hurdle that women have to overcome is that men are allowed to make mistakes, women have to be 100% perfect otherwise they shouldn't be doing it. There's no grace given to women working in men's sports even when the men make plenty of mistakes.

Understandable error, but that’ll take a while to live down lmao

Ideally the reporters know the players a bit better than this, in part because it usually leads to better questions rather than generic ones like she asked. But, we’re all human, and I have no clue what her job position is, which team she reports on typically (if any), etc, so who am I to judge?

u/razoman 20h ago

Not gunna lie, that's not an understandable error at all. Like, thats your job. I get she probably wont know every player ever, but then ask before going live with the interview? Quite poor really.

But pretty fucking hilarious outside of that lol, the guys face shows his pain

We’re only human dude. Shit happens.

Why would she need to ask? The whole point of jerseys is to easily identify which team they are on. Do you want football players to ask each person if they are on their team before passing the ball?

u/razoman 19h ago

The different colour shorts and socks with different crests would be a huge giveaway, obviously? Makes your questions look a bit silly.

Plus I'd probably expect "Hey number 1/Zetter, can I interview you?" At which point he'd then likely correct to say he isn't that that person. Evidently a lack of attention to detail

3

u/Chess42 19h ago

Who the hell looks at shorts and socks??

-4

u/razoman 19h ago

Great argument

Just how the doctor asks for my opinion before prescribing me! Her job is to ask a certain team a question. I’d hope the least she’s briefed on is what team she’s about to interview.

5

u/Chess42 19h ago

In this case, your opinion would be written in giant letters on your shirt

-8

u/HJuanZeeJuan 19h ago

Atleast we’re being consistent I guess

u/NotAStatistic2 23h ago

Not really. Would you confuse Josh Hart with a Spurs player or Austin Reeves with a Knicks player?

u/BiasedChelseaFan New York Knicks 23h ago

I wouldn’t, but if I was sent to do interviews on the Pistons playing the Pelicans, I probably wouldn’t recognize all the players.

u/Ok-Cantaloupe-9946 22h ago

Are you a professional paid to do interviews? I would expect a professional to know who the players are.

Fair enough, I mostly just meant that while it’s an embarrasing mistake, I can understand how it’s possible to make it. But yeah I agree, not a great look lol

I would. Are they household names?

6

u/Key_Environment8179 18h ago

No. Only people that follow the sport religiously would recognize their faces.

Strong role players I would say

17

u/maazen 20h ago

her predecessor, jana wosnitza, closed an interview with a football player saying 'you are the plug and I am the outlet…'

I don’t get it. Is he trying to say all of her power is derived from her connection to him?

5

u/FiveDollarWrench 11h ago

She said it, not him. She made the comment towards her colleague on-air during a segment about the NFL. It was a reference to a similar quote from former soccer/football player Mladen Petric, who said it about his manager at Hamburger SV in the Bundesliga around 2010. When she said it, it sounded unintentionally sexual. Some commenters tried to make it seem like it was double standard, because she got away with saying it and a man supposedly wouldn't have. I don't think she had inappropriate intent. I just don't think people realized she was referencing the Petric quote, since he said it over a decade earlier.

0

u/proboscisjoe 10h ago

Thanks for that explanation. How did you interpret the metaphor in the original usage?

3

u/FiveDollarWrench 9h ago edited 9h ago

When Petric said it, similar to "the wind in our sail". Like "he's the guy that gets us moving", or "he's the one that powers us". But she said it in reverse. So either she was implying "I'm the one that powers him" or she just said it in reverse on accident.

To be honest, when I first heard it, I thought she was making a joke about their relative size and that I just didn't get the joke. He was much taller than her.

u/proboscisjoe 8h ago

Ah, I understand now. Yea, I don’t think we have this expression in the U.S. We are lacking in enlightenment.

u/heelspider 21h ago

I did not know players who switched jerseys actually wore them. I get having a commemorative jersey, but I don't get wearing someone else's sweaty clothing.

u/DizzyBlackberry3999 20h ago

There's a team in my country who have only won one title, and after the game they swapped shirts with the losing team. Which means that the only photos of them with a trophy is when they're wearing another team's shirt.

2

u/Masothe 6h ago

What team is this?

2

u/DizzyBlackberry3999 6h ago edited 5h ago

St Kilda in the Australian AFL. Here's a pic of a St Kilda player lifting the trophy while wearing the opposing Collingwood shirt. They haven't won another (important) trophy since.

5

u/hnoj 21h ago

Seeing as this is a GK jersey it might not have been that sweaty.

-1

u/Reinis_LV 20h ago

Especially if his team sucked that game, maybe the goalie just stood there the whole game

57

u/nathtendo 23h ago

Of course get these randos doing interviews instead of people who actually like the game, and then wonder why they get asked about instagram more than the actual game.

19

u/phhathead 22h ago

She's definitely there for her knowledge

-32

u/carinislumpyhead97 21h ago

Honestly can’t see any other reason she would be there. For TV, mids at best.

-50

u/BasTiix3 Golden State Warriors 23h ago

Bro doesnt know who she is but still talks Bullshit, love it.

37

u/nathtendo 23h ago

She doesn't know the captain of the team she is supposed to be interviewing, all I need to know an incompetent cancer on the sport.

Shes the fiance/girlfriend/wife of Sebatian Kehl, Manager of Dortmund

0

u/mac2o2o 19h ago

Okay. But, does that mean she follows every player and knows who they are and what they look like.bexsuse of her partners job and histroy in football. Kehls knowledge doesn't exclusively mean its hers.

Like 1 has a beard, and the other doesn't (the keeper)? Maybe Kehl didnt notice that either lol

5

u/jordan1978 16h ago

She didn’t get this job because she’s a sports aficionado.

To be fair, she is very popular. Head presenter for the Friday Night Game for Sky and also working on the biggest football show on sunday for Sport1.

-1

u/jazmoley 22h ago

Just goes to show that she didn't know who she was interviewing. Yet she's conducting an interview, very poor.

-3

u/MrFivePercent 11h ago

Typical, get the blonde presenter who can't name any of the players to do post match interviews.

0

u/proboscisjoe 13h ago

I don’t speak German but I damn sure could read that expression on dude’s face.

“Is she seriously massing this up this badly right now? Is this happening for real?”

-50

u/Aprilprinces 22h ago

I love the fact women get involved in football but it really shouldn't be done by force: sometimes they have no idea what they're talking about

5

u/mac2o2o 19h ago

Okay Joey Barton lol

As stupid and redundant as your comment is, there's a shred of truth that I want to extract from it. This is literally exactly what the comment you replied to said. You added nothing. If you're going to be that obnoxious person who tries to make everything "sexist", at least try to make it relevant.

4

u/Aprilprinces 22h ago

How was it sexist? Why not choose a lady that knows her job?

Sexist is to send that pretty face to do the job she's clearly not qualified to do just because she's pretty

0

u/karlpoppins 12h ago

That's my bad. I totally misread what you said.

0

u/Aprilprinces 11h ago

Like 46 other people and only you have courage to admit it Well done 👍

blonde girl after all 🤣

-13

u/ImpressiveTank9265 23h ago

Girlfriend from Sebastian Kehl (Dortmund head of sport)

17

u/spieler_42 22h ago

Which does not say anything about her suitability for the job

-2

u/bobbdac7894 15h ago

She kinda bad though

-6

u/LoseInhibitions 22h ago

Indeed is sponsoring sports teams by letting employers post fake jobs on their website.
