you may have to pay for a VPN in order to change the country and be able to join the plan, but once youve joined you shouldnt need the vpn again, so maybe try using a free trial of something?

I've done this before, just with different countries. Once you join the plan, Spotify doesn't care what country you are in - as long as you put the same address as the friend in.
