OPVS·PRINCIPALE·IMPERIVM·ROMANVM (OC) Looking to find the significance behind these symbols

What do they mean? Google AI says the numeral on the right is likely determining the legion number of the soldier that would be carrying the shield. However what is the significance of the star? And is that even an accurate conclusion? Any advice is appreciated, thank you.

Clearly, it marks that legionary as the star of his contubernium. Clearly.

If you get three stars, you get a day off

If you get 5 stars, the legate comes to thank you personally and take a picture for the legio newspaperium.

The second symbol is IV so that likely represents either the legion or the century the soldier belongs to

So if they lived in 1st century BC it would say -I? /s

If it's the IV Macedonian it might be a reference to Capricorn.

The star might represent the rank of the soldier while the number most likely means the legion they're a part of

What rank would a star be?

Thinking about it a bit more, it's a hit too small to be seen in battle, something you'd want in order to maintain the chain of command. It could be denoting an achievement similar to a medal today

Where does the original originate from ? Usually museums and archives provide more context

Dial star 4 if there's an emergency and the guy with the bear hat and cool shiny totem shows up
