One of my biggest pet peeves
So I am doing a complete watch through of all the star gates again (I'm on SGA S4) But one of my biggest pet peeves of the series is that nearly everyone speaks English. In Star Trek, it's handwaved that it's the universal translator, in Star wars, it's galactic basic. But why would every race of humans on nearly every planet in every galaxy speak near about modern English? Like lantian/ancient is said to be like latin, abydos is said to be like Egyptian. Most of the people taken through the star gate were taken before even early English was on the scene, so how can they speak modern English?

SGC is a rude neighbour for NORAD
Do you reckon NORAD ever get annoyed by their neighbours in the apartment downstairs at Cheyenne Mountain?:
- Random unexplained earthquakes
- Constant unexplained noisy explosions and gunfire
- Being put on lockdown due to strange viruses inexplicably appearing in the building
- Unexpected houseguests walking through the walls claiming they want to "look at the stars"
- A weird occasion when time began to slow down the closer you got to your downstairs neighbours
They thought they were just getting some quiet nerdy neighbours researching Deep-Space Radar Telemetry

Discussion Colonel Maybourne was a great character in SG-1, what was your favorite episode with him in it?
Mine was “Paradise Lost”, I found the plot was alright at most personally in the episode, but the increasing tension and personal moments between Jack and Maybourne I thought was actually really well done

Prometheus to Pegasus Galaxy
Rewatching S8E12 I cant help to think, how would the Prometheus impacted the events in stargate atlantis.
Prometheus was an extremely weak ship, only been able to fight alkesh ships or bellow. Probably would end up been a transport ship and even so, with an inferior hyper drive a trip back and forth between galaxies would have been unrealistic.
What do you think?

REWATCH Thoughts on the Final Episode of SG-1: "Unending"?
While I've watched the first 8 seasons of SG-1 several times, I always stopped partway into season 9. I quite liked Vala and the actress who played her, but with RDA gone, the incredible chemistry between both the actors and the characters was destroyed. I wanted to like Beau Bridges, but I couldn't get past the eyebrows. And it seemed to be turning into the Daniel & Vala Variety Hour. So I never went past that point in the series.
However, this time I did a full rewatch and included all of seasons 9 and 10. And again, I did enjoy some of the Vala stuff. However, I did not enjoy the Adria plotlines as the actress (in my unimportant opinion) simply did not have the acting chops or charisma required to play a super-villain, and the character didn't feel to be particularly well-written in terms of depth and tension.
I got to the final episode ("Unending") last night, and for full transparency I should note that my edible kicked in about 5 minutes into it. I don't know if that made my experience better, or worse. I watched most of the episode with my mouth hanging open, because it just seemed so incredibly...bad. The little vignette scenarios of them aging seemed to go on forever. And I'm still confused about the ending. So Teal'c is just...old now?
How was this episode received by Stargate fans? And did the writers know that they were writing the final series episode? It seemed like a very tepid way for such an amazing show to go out.

Discussion Why did Rush believe Destiny was humanity’s most important discovery since the stargate?
So Rush seems like an obsessive person in general, plus he used the Icarus project as a way to escape the death of his wife so it’s natural he wants it to be a great discovery. But given Destiny’s age its technology was no where near as advanced as the Ancient technology found in Milky Way and Pegasus.
Prior to discovering Destiny’s mission, why did Rush consider Destiny so important?

Why not just ask an ancient?
So, sorta piggy-backing off the post about why Rush was so interested in Destiny, why didn't they just ask an ancient about it? I will admit that Oma Desala is off fighting Anubis for eternity, and Ganos Lal is fighting Adria forever, but what about Chaya Sar/Athar? They know where her planet is, and that she can't help with settling new people on her planet, but why couldn't they just fly a ship to her planet and ask her questions about Destiny? Not about how to ascend, ancient technology, or anything like that, but something like "Hey, we found one of the ships you all launched into the universe millions of years ago, can you give us any details about that? How did that process get going? How did you find the signal? How was launching a ship to tour the stars for eternity supposed to get you more information?" I mean, if the other ancients are going to let her bump souls with Sheppard, would they really have a problem with her answering a couple of questions about a ship they no longer have any use for and that can't really do them any harm?

Discussion Lieutenant Elliot was an idiot
Damn near every decision he makes In Proving Ground is pretty dumb and completely reactionary. Grogan was a brick but at least he was a team-first guy.
I just don't get it. I served with butter bars like that. Wouldn't want them on my team.

Am I the only one who didn't care for SGU?
Let me start by saying I love the stargate universe as in the movies, sg1, sga, ext but when I started watching SGU a few years back I got maybe through half of the first season and imo it just didn't have that "IT" factor that I think previous versions did. To me SGU felt more like a heavy drama and I just didn't get the same magic I did from sg1/sgu. My question is am I the only one who feels this way? Is SGU well liked in the community?

Jessica Steen Clarification
I went back and re-read the Jessica Steen interview that I linked. Upon the second read, reading other people's opinions, and doing my own research, I think that her being fired was the best decision. I do feel a little bad for her, but upon really listening to the reasoning for her being fired, I definitely understand why the producers wanted her out.
I just wanted to clarify my stance since there's no option to edit my last post. :)
Edit: I still think that what happened to Steen was unfair. It was a big lack of communication on the producers' part. Steen should have been more honest, but the producers didn't seem all that innocent.

We want more Stargate franchise episodes to watch!
I’ve just watched everything back again, and well, I want more!
So how do we go about it, showing Amazon there is an audience out there looking for more?
https://www.gateworld.net/news/2025/04/amazons-stargate-problem-how-to-fix-it/
This forum has 177k users, is that enough, or if not how do we get more, r/StarTrek has 6x this number.

Awesome! USS Hammond
So, I discovered this ship from the video game Stargate Unleashed. From what I can gather this is some kind of alternate ship from an alternate timeline. But honesty it looks awesome! I managed to extract the model from the game and put it into a google drive, linked below. The texture might need some rework, but I left images how set it up.

Same filming set spotted
Just noticed that in s1e15 (cor-ai) the "court room" is the same set they filmed s1e10 (the torment of tantalus) where the gate is.

Ever notice how in season 8 suddenly all the human bad guys have AK47s
I am talking about isolated civilizations like episode 8x5.
And the good guys use M1 garands without modification.
But in previous episodes involving places like Jonas’s planet, firearms are modified to not look like earth weapons.
Someone got lazy or budgets were cut.
In the few times we see humans with guns on other worlds before that they always made an effort to make then look different than earth weapons.
Apparently no longer the case in season 8.
Just strait up ak47s without any attempt at even minor cosmetic modifications.

When did this happen?
I watched the Stargate movie about a week ago, and when I look at it to show it to a friend, I find that it has been moved to MGM+, alongside the rest of the movies. Are they planning to move the series too or?

Age of Jace, Vala’s Father
Sorry, *Jacek So was wondering, if Vala was a Goa’uld and lived for however many years.. which I concluded was for sometime years and years based on Vala’s exchanges Ba’al and the other Goa’uld that kid napped her on Earth.. Qetesh had an extensive history.. So I wondered how old would that make Vala’s father?? Maybe Vala was on taken by Qetesh for 10 years?? Not sure.

If the episode ‘200’ was broadcast in 2025.
What would you have Martin attempt to rip off?
I’ll go first.
A Goa’uld cargo ship crashes, spilling crates of casa across a jungle world. An Unas overdoses, goes berserk… and starts to ascend. Now SG-1 must stop the Unas before it breaks through to the higher planes and sparks an interdimensional incident the Ancients really don’t want on their hands.
