Hey everyone! We've put together a discord server for r/stencils. We hope that this will be an avenue for us to be closer as a community, and a good place for resources and feedback for those new to the game.

See you there!

Finished with paint pens to do the fine lines, and some iridescent paint on the blue one to make it shine with depth

first time with this design. i cut a few more masks which should allow some interesting variations. instead of cutting cmyk, i just cut red and black, and painted the red layer gold.

Is there anyway to get a clean stencil without the background?

One of my works. When applying paint, the stencil did not adhere tightly to the surface, so it turned out imperfect.

Anyone know the artist?

I got this stencil almost 20 years ago in New York City. It has no markings or a signature. But I would love to know who the artist is. Does anyone have an idea? (People keep asking if this was a stencil of me on a bike. It’s a little creepy but it does look a little like me—something I didn’t realize when I bought it.)

(I reverse-google-searched the picture and found the stencil on a page of street art in Berlin. But again, no artist.)

Looking for guidance to make these type of balloon stencils

Post image

Discontinued by the manufacturer, so if anyone simply provides me a link to buy them, they’ve been out of stock for awhile. I am desperate to try and recreate these balloon prints. I asked on Screen Printing, they said stencils would work better. I just want to get the same “spray” effect, that’s why I thought I could burn it into a screen. I have Kids water based acrylic spray paint and a spray marker gun. Want to find a turntable so the balloon spins as I’m applying the design. Can anyone please help me figure out how to lay the stencil out itself? The balloons are 11 inches, the standard size. I want the stencil to be just the right size so it fits on the balloon. Is there a discord for this type of thing? Hope someone can help instead of immediately hitting downvote.

A painting I just finished of Anthony Bourdain. The portrait was created using spray paint and stencils that I cut by hand, and the background was created using liquid acrylic and then more spray paint for the gold trim. "Medium Raw" - 20x24 inches, 2025.

experimenting with light-to-dark gradient in background while dark-to-light gradient takes the foreground. using gradients makes single-shot stencils more interesting, i think, but I'm not sure about the colors, and not sure i like the muddy middle. (should have used contrasting hues in the middle where values are more nearly the same)

Anyone know where to find this kind of stencil - but BIG?!

Post image

I’m working on my home office and would like to have BIG leaf outlines in gold paint. I saw a reel somewhere of a woman possibly free hand painting leaves like that on a wall and thought, “gorgeous!” But alas, I do not remotely have that kind of skill 😂.

I have tried looking on stencil specific sites but haven’t had any luck. Totally new to the stencil world so perhaps I’ve just looked in the wrong spot. Any suggestions?

If there’s another sub I should inquire with, or if more info is needed - just let me know! Thank you!

I'm trying to create a stencil for spraypainting the bottom of my skateboard but everytime i try i end up cutting out the wrong parts, my goal is to cut out the red parts and spray it onto a black background, would anyone have tips for doing this?

better than the first one?

i like this one better than the first one. i used the reverse stencil (light on dark), sprayed it lightly once on the white paper surface, then used the markings to know where and how to lay the dark background. i wanted the figure in the middle to be dark while the others were light. finally used the white stencil a second time to spray the light on dark parts.

better in just black and white maybe?

grabbed the image from pinterest, thought it would make a good stencil, but i think i screwed it up with the color. will try the reverse stencil too.
