It's gonna be really hard with easy access to cigarettes in the house. I don't recommend keeping them. If you really want to quit then you don't need them around. The withdrawals and cravings can get pretty bad in the first few weeks and the nicotine devil will temp you. Having smokes lying around is like the forbidden fruit sitting there.

You need to understand your addiction it's different for all of us. I used to get extremely anxious if I was about to run out of smokes. When it was late at night and I only had a couple left I would be really craving. When I quit one of the first decisions I made was just because a cigarette was available was no reason to smoke it. Mostly because my spouse still smokes so they are always around. I quit with more than a pack left, but it was easier to wake up and say no, not today to the pack in the drawer than to not have them nearby.

Unpopular opinion, but I kept my last pack open. A year in and the pack and lighter are still in the same place I left them after my last smoke (that I did not know would be my last)

For me and for the way my brain and my own anxiety work, I think I would have broken down if I did not have any.

Even now that I’ve been having a very difficult week just days away from the year, it sort of helps with the freak outs and cravings to know that the pack is there. I know for many that would be a horrible disaster. For me it gives a weird peace of mind.

You have to know yoursel and know what could help those little corners of your mind
