The large plate on the left is $14 sushi lunch, and I ordered a salmon roll on the side.. a huge plate for small pieces of sushi, comes with soup or salad..$14 lunch is pretty cheap but the plate is..just silly I think. Thoughts?

Ankimo, monkfish liver. Arguably one of the ugliest fish in the ocean, but this dish is like eating the foie gras of the ocean, with ponzu and accompaniments. I happen to like it but don’t order it every time. How do we feel about ankimo?

Giant Hokkaido Scallop at Kura Sushi

Post image

I tried to take more pictures with my Nikon D4 but everything looked so ugly out of the kitchen today. There was no Giant Sweet Shrimp available. The Otoro looked like it was sliced by a child. The Kumamoto Wagyu and regular Sweet Shrimp looked really awful. Perhaps the one saving grace was this Seared Giant Hokkaido Scallop, a special from their Kura Reserve menu this month, but even it was sliced better last week when I was here. I think Friday evening is a good time to go, not Sunday evening!

Some days all I want is a simple oysters, with a little ponzu or maybe Tabasco and cocktail sauce. But other days, like today, I just want everything with my oyster. Because some days, the world’s my oyster.

This was really good. I only found there was more under the orchid toward the end. I ordered the 15-piece, but there was definitely more than 15 pieces. I’m also a sucker for dry ice. It looks like my sashimi also came with king salmon (2-piece, but I ate one before I remembered a photo), so if I’d known, I would have gotten a different nigiri side. Wife got the Kyoto roll.

We planned on another sushi-movie combo (free movie tickets for this theater), but this was really good, so we took our time and didn’t rush it like Friday night, making us late, ultimately leading us to skip the movie (still got the free movie tickets for later, though) and instead play some video games together at home. This sushi lunch was good enough to make us change our day.

And I’m a sucker for dry ice.

I love sushi so much lol, but can't muster paying for it for the life of me, I know they're not the best looking rolls but they were freaking delicious! I did crab Kewpie mayo salad, with avocado and cucumber, then unagi and Kewpie and crispy onions on top! :)

Looking to make blue crab hand rolls at home but can’t find anywhere to get blue crab. Does anyone have any recommendations from big name grocery stores. Also wondering if any of these work from Publix

We went here because sushi is fast and we had a movie to get to. We need to go back so we can enjoy it longer, because this was really good. It’s a shame we had to be in and out of this place in 30 minutes. I want more.

The spicy tuna in the roll was ACTUALLY spicy, unlike ≈99% of the time. Honestly, only here and the place in Burlingame was the spicy tuna actually spicy. I’ve wondered why it’s called spicy tuna almost my whole sushi-eating life, because it’s never spicy. I don’t know if that’s regional, a misnomer, or because I love heat and I have to ask wait staff “Is it actually spicy, or just white people spicy” when I order something spicy at a restaurant, so I’m kinda numb to low spice heat.
