That uni ain’t right.

71

u/miscdruid 5d ago

That shit was so off I had trouble telling what it was…literally never seen uni that, beige?

84

u/theterpenecollective 5d ago

It looks like scrambled eggs. 🤮

15

u/dognamedman 4d ago

Seriously. The only thing that makes sense to me is that possibly it has been previously frozen.. otherwise it must be rotten.

9

u/Legitimate-Light-303 5d ago

I thought it was mashed potatoes

3

u/pickle_of_dill 4d ago

That is shit from a butt

1

u/Slaphappyfapman 3d ago

Thought it was avocado 😁

That is what uni looks like a little while after being caught, when it hasn’t been treated with chemicals (usually aluminum chloride). I’ve had uni in this state a few times—it doesn’t taste quite as fresh, but it’s still good. uni is originally an ingredient that deteriorates very quickly, and even if it looks as though it’s melting, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s spoiled.

u/jeepjinx 5d ago

That does not look good.

40

u/DidYouSeeBriansHat 5d ago

Wait… If that’s wasabi on the right, then what’s on the left??

-53

u/Winter-Bill6187 5d ago

the yellow stuff on the front? its Uni

36

u/Logical_Sandwich_625 5d ago

Tell me you did not eat that.

37

u/Gaston44 5d ago

I thought that uni was guacamole

2

u/roqueandrolle 4d ago

Me too 🫣

27

u/popformulas 5d ago

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

No thank you

18

u/Dapper_Finance 5d ago

Solid 2/10. presentation looks like actual feces, probably will still taste well

15

u/BungeeBebop 5d ago

uni looks like rancid mushy peas

u/SilverKnightOfMagic 5d ago

any places that Include fake crab sticks are funny ha.

but that uni should be bright orange.

16

u/Gut_Reactions 5d ago

I was so focused on the uni (color & texture) that I didn't see the imitation crab sticks. I agree, those crab sticks don't belong on a chirashi (and also don't belong on a nigiri).

1

u/Meended 4d ago

Imitation crab doesn't belong anywhere.

1

u/Desperate-Ad4620 3d ago

They do it all the time here in Japan tho. It's called surimi

46

u/Original-Tune1471 5d ago

I’ve never seen that color on uni lol. Did you play around with the picture saturation? Shime Saba needs fresh grated ginger on top or at least some kizame wasabi or the very least some scallion. It’s very fishy to eat just like that plain. Kani cut like that needs to face the opposite direction and make a x and not face the same way.

13

u/LowGravitasIndeed 4d ago

I disagree about the saba. It's a beautiful tasting fish on its own. Strong, yes, but not something I want to hide beneath ginger or wasabi or even soy sauce.

2

u/darkskinnedjermaine 3d ago

Yea I love me some straight mackerel. One of my favorites.

-8

u/Original-Tune1471 4d ago

Ok well that makes you the minority. Thanks for your opinion

7

u/lo-lux 5d ago

Are those scrambled eggs?

5

u/rideadove 5d ago

Did you get sick from eating that?

-1

u/Winter-Bill6187 5d ago

no.

4

u/JasonIsFishing 4d ago

Please tell me it’s been days since you ate that, otherwise you aren’t out of the woods yet

4

u/quantythequant 5d ago

That uni looks rank.

4

u/ChairmanMeow23 4d ago

Is that tilapia? Not a good fish to eat raw.  Also as others mention uni looks rotten and fake crab takes away point. 3/10 cause salmon tuna and mackerel look edible at least.

22

u/Captain-PlantIt 5d ago

I see no nigiri. This is sashimi.

32

u/Royd 5d ago

Looks like a chirashi, actually. I can see the rice on the bottom layer

I wouldn't eat anything that touches the uni, though. I thought it was Egg

9

u/Captain-PlantIt 5d ago

Yeah, that uni looks unsafe

3

u/Draggin-Weedz 5d ago

Chirashi ain't nigiri, but a cat definitely threw up on the left side regardless 🤢

4

u/Royd 5d ago

I'm just saying that's not just strictly Sashimi, relaxxxxxx

3

u/Draggin-Weedz 5d ago

I'm so mad im gonna make you eat that uni 💪

-1

u/ry8919 4d ago

They said sushi. Chirashi is sushi. The whole name is chrisashizushi.

2

u/Draggin-Weedz 4d ago

It literally is tagged nigiri/fish on rice. Half is correct. Read more.

There isn't a single piece of nigiri and I made a joke. People on reddit seriously struggle lol.

1

u/Desperate-Ad4620 3d ago

It's definitely chirashidon

-1

u/ry8919 4d ago

Incorrect. It is either Kaisen Don if it has unseasoned rice or chirashizushi (which is sushi) if it is seasoned.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sushi#Chirashizushi

https://www.tasteatlas.com/kaisendon#:~:text=One%20of%20the%20most%20popular,laid%20over%20freshly%20steamed%20rice.

1

u/Captain-PlantIt 4d ago

Someone already pointed out that it’s chirashi, but it’s still not nigiri. It was tagged as nigiri.

1

u/ry8919 4d ago

The tag for me says mostly nigiri/fish on rice? Seems like the latter half of the tag applies. In any case it's not technically sashimi.

2

u/Captain-PlantIt 4d ago

You know what, you’re totally right. My bad. Thanks!

3

u/brbenson999 4d ago

I love uni. It’s one of my favorite delights. I would send that right back. That looks awful.

2

u/LittleKitty235 5d ago

Omg what’s that?!

2

u/Low_Influence_2990 5d ago

Throw out the uni before you eat.

2

u/PeanutOrganic9174 4d ago

That uni looks rough

2

u/wateringgreen 4d ago

Sorry but shit like my arsehole spews out

2

u/four-lokos 4d ago

I’m sorry love, every piece of fish looks off. Especially the uni…

2

u/So_Cal_Grown 4d ago

Don't eat that Uni

2

u/Exciting-Reception-4 3d ago

The plating looks careless, like no thought went into it.

2

u/Noname_4Me 3d ago

You had me at most of the part but the uni..

Uni has low lows and high highs

2

u/Nothingisperfect33 3d ago

Yes, as others are saying… the uni looks very suspect.

2

u/EatingInPDX 3d ago

On a scale of 1-10 I give it a food poisoning.

5

u/AlphaDisconnect 5d ago

Too thick cuts in my opinion. No picked ginger. Too much fish, not enough things to break it up.

Don't know what that white paste is? Pasted daikon?

Great presentation though.

4

u/Pizzatron30o0 5d ago

I believe it is the least fresh uni I have ever seen

1

u/AlphaDisconnect 5d ago

I hope not. If so, find the people digging the deepest hole in the world and throw it in there.

4

u/Tight-Childhood7885 5d ago

It looks decent except for the sea urchin.

2

u/Winter-Bill6187 4d ago

I agree the uni didn’t look great but the taste is okay

3

u/ooOJuicyOoo 5d ago

Uni is oof. Rest is decent, coming from US Midwest.

2

u/onlyAlex87 5d ago

There is a major lacking in finesse, technique, and presentation to the bowl. Whoever put it together has no clue what they are doing and if there was no oversight that allowed something like that to be served I would be suspect of the general handling of any of the food and its ingredients. Even if a rough handed amateur butchered all the ingredients because they were unskilled, a skilled chef could’ve still replate it in a way so it at least looked a little neater despite the poor cuts and handling.

Terrible knife work, even worse presentation and handling, uni and ebi looks completely unappetizing. 0/10 I would be afraid of getting sick and even if I didn’t I wouldn’t enjoy eating any of that. Were they short staffed and someone with no experience had to step in?

1

u/Veneboy 4d ago

Who pre-chewed your uni?

1

u/Mindlesman 4d ago

Chirashi

1

u/nojohcan 4d ago

Random ass Tobiko on the sashimi.

1

u/thegntloryntl 4d ago

3, looks like a Korean owned Japanese restaurant

1

u/nitroguy2 4d ago

homie that uni looks like fried tempura batter gone wrong

1

u/Justice0188 4d ago

10/10 wouldn't touch. Sorry.

1

u/No_Poet_7244 4d ago

Why’d you vomit on your plate?

1

u/TeriNickels 4d ago

7/10. . .Everything don’t appear fresh

1

u/win413 4d ago

imitation crab meat, premade saba… don’t get me started on the uni

1

u/wateringgreen 4d ago

Sorry but shit like my arse hole spits out!

1

u/5HITCOMBO 4d ago

That uni looks like it would kill a man if he ate it

1

u/Daxdagr8t 4d ago

8/10 diarrhea.

1

u/scraglor 4d ago

Good luck sir

1

u/mrhoracio 4d ago

Not everything fish with rice is sushi. This is kaisendonburi. Please, thank you.

1

u/analytic-hunter 4d ago

well sashimi is just cut fish, so the only thing that can be judged is the quality of the product which needs tasting

1

u/HR_King 4d ago

Where's the sushi?

1

u/Sniperizer 4d ago

That uni reminded me of my time changing my kids nappies.

1

u/CompetitiveBoot5629 4d ago

What is the beige/yellow stuff?

1

u/globalgourmet 3d ago

Better take your money to a decent restaurant. This attempt is a total failure.

1

u/rekun88 3d ago

The imitation crab is a red flag, but honestly the uni doesn't look as bad as everyone says. It COULD be bad, but depending on the season or type of uni, sometimes it has a pale yellow color. I've seen a similar color both fresh out of the shell on the West Coast, and from restaurants in Hokkaido. There's a chance it might taste decent.

I've had the uni tasting course at Uni Murakami Hakodate and one of the species kind of looks like that (though less of the dark colored bits which probably aren't as fresh and might taste bitter)

1

u/oasisjason1 3d ago

That “uni” is going to make you dosi

1

u/Middle_Macaron1033 2d ago

Naw. This at most generic grade quality

1

u/Wonderful-Result-476 2d ago

Isn't that technically sashimi?

1

u/SenChuckHagel 2d ago

Can you guys give some advice to this poor guy instead? This is hard to read man he’s trying.

1

u/2kokuoyabun 1d ago

cheap😝

1

u/Fun_Honeydew7124 1d ago

that is not sushi bro

1

u/jacob242342 1d ago

Can't tell! Somethings seems not right but enjoy!

1

u/Additional_Top798 5d ago

I'd give 10 but that uni sort of ruined the visual. So a 6.

1

u/LazyOldCat 5d ago

1.5/5 Krab sticks, talapia, cooked shrimp, yellow pile of foamy eewww?? Tuna, salmon, mackerel lol ok. But that pile of….ew.

1

u/Keywork29 5d ago

Look, I’m gonna be honest that uni looks rough… but I would 100% eat everything else

1

u/Wonderful-Dot9811 5d ago

Salmon pale, tuna too dark for me

1

u/Phillip_Lascio 4d ago

Uni rating is 0. The rest seems completely average at 5-6 imo.

1

u/Global-Blackberry139 4d ago

i know this whole thread is roasting that bowl. i agree as well. but did YOU enjoy it? that’s what matters! and that you don’t get sick off of it ofc

1

u/DammatBeevis666 4d ago

Sashimi, I think. What’s the snot at 6-7:30?

-1

u/TheArmadilloAmarillo 4d ago

Congrats everyone I doubt op will ever post or comment again since literally everyone was an asshole to this person.

Sorry op.

0

u/Winter-Bill6187 4d ago

Yeah. Thank you for the warm greetings everyone. but they’re not roasting me just my sushi. Didn’t know everyone’s standards are so high. This is actually okay sushi for our place not the super premium as everyone expects.

1

u/TheArmadilloAmarillo 4d ago

The uni does look sus but I figured it was more your phone/lighting.

The people here tend to come off as Regina George if they don't like something lol.

0

u/DrinkingChardonnay 5d ago

What’s the yellow stuff that looks like stomach insides?

0

u/Buddhayo 5d ago

Uni was in its spawning cycle.

0

u/iamdavidrice 5d ago

Hard pass.

0

u/Calm_Ad6612 5d ago

I don’t rate this bullshit

0

u/Sufficient-Let-3013 5d ago

0

u/23454Tezal 5d ago

That’s sashimi

0

u/iwantthemtloveme 4d ago

The uni looks like what my sick dog left outside the other day…

0

u/maarkwong 4d ago

Thats a very good uni from Maine standard. 👍🏻

0

u/Hour-Stable1054 3d ago

So tempting!

-2

u/xyespider 5d ago

9/10 personally (:

-4

u/Ok-Seaworthiness4488 5d ago

No rice ≠ sushi

7

u/Gut_Reactions 5d ago

I think there's rice underneath. It's called chirashi sushi.

-24

u/Jonlz208 5d ago

Absolutely stunning presentation. it looks delicious 😋
