Re-dying a chest rig

Post image

How hard would it be to re-dye this from ranger green to a tan color?

Can't go lighter, can only go darker.

Nearly impossible. You can dye something darker but unlike paint it doesn't work the other way. You could, theroetically bleach it and then dye it tan, but I wouldn't recommend it.

remember to spray in equally spaced diagonal strokes for a camouflage effect

So maybe like coyote brown or something?

A dark coyote would be possible. You'd really need to monitor it though because it'd be really easy to overshoot coyote and go straight to a dark chocolate.

Sell it and buy the color you want

For anyone interested in this chest rig the ATS tactical mini gp pouch is a perfect match for the two rows of molle on each side

Put it outside in the sun (a lot) and use it. Eventually the colors will fade a little, making it look lighter/more tan-ish

1st off you're a monster for wanting to change the color of something in the Lord's color.

Secondly I think you're gonna be out of luck. Likely just need to get a new rig unless you want to sew all new fabric onto the existing fabric but that seems like an excessive amount of work.

I live in the Tonopah desert ain’t exactly the best camo for it lol and yeah I’m just going to sell it and buy one in tan or coyote brown

Spray paint. Worked in Afghanistan. It'll work for you

Personally not big on changing the color of anything of value since it damages the resale value. You may change your mind later but now you're stuck with it. Old ACU/UCP/ABU is where I keep my dyes and paints. It's also very hard to hit a color target, I wouldn't even expect a decent outcome without running tests using the same material first.

That said, if I was set on changing this and was aiming for brown I might try getting some stencils or coming up with a pattern and do a light spray paint overlay. Get artsy and show off your inner tacticool dweeb. Would shift the color toward your target and also help break up the profile, plus you could make it look pretty dope if you plan and do a little practice before hitting it. Even just some brown tiger stripes could add some legit drip.

Thought so. I just sold mine on eBay. I wasn’t using it and tbh I picked up a British LBE kit and I love it.
