Sunny to the South, ominous to the North. The whole house shook with that crash of thunder.

this might be a stretch but we just recently moved into a new place and the gutters all lead into the driveway, where it totally floods into this area by the bear box with a plastic tube sticking out of it. House was built in the 50's, wondering if anyone knows what the landlords were up to when putting this together? Is it going to create an annoying ice patch in the winter when the ground freezes? Thanks in advance :)

I was out with some friends boating around the west side of tahoe. Coast guard and boating company said we would be okay to stay out. Once we headed out the storm looked to be staying to the east. We were about 25 minutes out from the main dock when we decided to turn around. It was the scariest 25 minutes of my life. We all got on life vests and just braced ourselves. Insane waves, hail, and winds. We made it back, all a bit traumatized. We heard another boat capsized. Hoping everyone made it off the water today okay?
Edit: For context, it was sunny when we headed out, and the weather turned very quickly. We trusted the rental company’s guidance at the time, I am not a boat person but I know now how fast conditions can change out there. My main reason for posting was just to see if everyone else on the lake made it back okay.
Edit 2: I am not trying to hide the fact that we rented a boat! I am obviously not from tahoe and trusted what the boating company said and what they said about the coast guard. Which I now know was wrong of me. I wanted to believe these workers from the boating company would not send people out there if it was unsafe but they did. I learned. Our weather radar apps said the storm would not hit the west side. I know better now. AGAIN, I made this to see if other people were okay.

Near Loon Lake. Size not yet reported but resources are responding to both smoke and visible glow.
No imminent threat to Tahoe. Distance on the map appears to be about 14 miles to the lake, about equal to the distance from Tahoe City to Truckee. If you know anyone on the trail with comms, might be worth a radio or sat text.

I speak for many people when I say the service people in town have had a LOT to deal with this summer. We understand that people get mad about something breaking down, or not being immediate, not having parking, being over capacity, etc etc.
We feel for you, we really do, you just wanna get out, decompress, and have fun. I promise these people are trying their best to help you.
Bear (not sure if that's right but idfc) in mind that we are also people who've had been berated, demeaned, and bent over backwards for people for months. And somehow we still try to treat everyone with respect.
The workforce in this town has been slim and therefor the people we have are incredibly exhausted.
I know because I grew up here when we actually had people who lived and worked here. It was mostly care free and so much lucrative. And I recognize that the rest of the country is going through this kind of thing too.
Long story short, just be kind to someone who looks like they may be actually dying to serve you.

Where are the best in Tahoe?
Bonus: Any brûlée oatmeal on menus in the basin?

Recently moved to NorCal. Im taking a quick mid-week trip to Tahoe for a few days. Staying in Carnelian Bay. Will be traveling with my dog. Any recommendations on where to take her hiking (beginner level) and swimming? I’ve briefly stayed in Tahoe City in the past (it was lovely). Any dog beaches you would recommend?

Hi- For those who have gone to the Outdoor Arena, is it better to find parking or use ride share? Is it difficult to get a ride share that late at night on a Sunday?

I’m a 24M who comes to Tahoe regularly, but I’m usually with family so I don’t really go out much or know a lot of people. I came up by myself this time and was curious as to any leads to meet people around my age. I’ve gone to the paddle wheel and the Hyatt a few times but people are usually older there. Rookies was fun, but I hear it closed.
Note: Beach suggestions are also welcome. I went to kings beach but mostly saw families there.

I hope this finds you well. I’m going on the road pretty soon and have been trying to plan my trip, and I needed a stopping point for day one… so I decided to detour a bit to spend one full day in Tahoe before hitting the road. The easiest place to see is the North side via my route.
I drove through last winter but didn’t get to explore, and truthfully, I’ve been dying to see the clear water and take a swim. I have friends who lived there and it always seemed like a great place to visit.
I dont have lake toys or anything—All I need is a safe, scenic, less crowded place to swim and take nature photos, a place to sleep in my car if possible, and a good place to eat.
However. I’m open to suggestions. If you want to dm me that’s fine too. I just find it hard to trust my research on what’s worth doing and would rather someone familiar let me know…
So if you “were me” and had only 24 hours in Tahoe next week with no prior reservations, how would you spend it?
Edit: Any tips/warnings would be appreciated too. I know summer is a busy season but I’m a pretty quiet and reserved person looking for a peaceful adventure on my own for the most part. I’m open to nightlife and meeting people too, though. I will be there on weekdays, not weekends btw.

Hi everyone!
This Labor Day my girlfriend and I were planning on doing a long weekend in South Lake Tahoe, we booked a room months out in advance. Curious - how busy and crowded do you think it will be? We’ve been before, but not on a holiday and are wondering if it’s gonna be too busy to really take it in and enjoy if that makes sense.
Thanks!! :)

Planning a trip to Tahoe in December and would like to rent a car at Sacramento Airport with a ski box on the roof for 2 snowboards. Does anyone have some hot tips? I've called a bunch of them but most that do offer them don't let you reserve them.

I just wrapped a week in Lake Tahoe (Incline Village) with two families and a pair of 3-year-olds. I leaned on this subreddit a lot while planning, so I wanted to share our experience in case it helps anyone else deciding if Tahoe is a good fit for a family trip.
We picked Incline Village because we wanted something quieter but still central to most of our activities and Reno-Tahoe Airport. We rented out house through Tahoe Luxury Properties on Lakeshore Blvd. Not cheap, but having a comfortable home base with space, a big kitchen, and the paved walking path nearby made the week much easier with kids.
I lean more toward adventure-focused trips while my family leans more casual, and Tahoe worked for both. Every activity felt doable with little kids and the scenery is incredible. I would 100 percent do this trip again and recommend Tahoe to any families looking for a mix of activity and downtime in one of the most beautiful places around. I hope this helps any future families looking at Lake Tahoe as a possible summer vacation spot!
He looks like he wants me to hurry up and order already lol
