The one thing you can give Trump credit for is that he is very transparent about his corruption given it relies on his base being total morons.

They have this assumption everyone is corrupt but it’s okay if you don’t try to hide it.

2.1k

u/TacticlTwinkie 1d ago

That’s the thing. They are thoroughly convinced that the other side is already doing all these things. In their mind, they are just fighting fire with fire.

1.8k

u/crankisaurusrex 1d ago

They're telling on themselves. They think everybody else is doing it because it's exactly what they'd do given the opportunity.

u/Drolb 1d ago

It’s fucking wild how awful these people must be internally, and how horrible they must be to know and interact with.

Like it’s one thing to be cynical, I’m cynical a lot of the time

But to be so far off the scale of terrible people that you fully believe all people are bastards all the time and will always screw everyone over at every opportunity you’ve got to be a real piece of shit. I’m talking sloppy steaks level piece of shit.

The one thing I find most scary and most fascinating about most people, including myself, is how unbelievably easy it is for anyone to convince themselves that anything is true or OK. Even if it means they are a massive hypocrite, its super easy to simply switch that off and say 'nah its different for me'

u/1-800PederastyNow 1d ago

I agree. Anyone that says they would never have been a Nazi is deluding themselves, there is nothing inhuman about Nazis and that's why they're so terrifying. With just the wrong upbringing...

101

u/Senior-Albatross 1d ago

Nazis were quintessentially human, actually. That evil is within all of us was the lesson. Unfortunately, not wanting to acknowledge difficult truths and replacing them with nonsense is also within all of us.

61

u/Canadian-Man-infj 1d ago

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eichmann_in_Jerusalem

Philosopher Hannah Arendt coined the term "banality of evil" and it's exactly what you're describing.

She found that they weren't "evil" necessarily and not even that intelligent; they were just obedient underlings doing what they were told to do...

In the end, they were just "doing their job."

Basically when society tells them something that was once unacceptable is now acceptable, most people don't think twice and it becomes their new normal. This is why propaganda channels like Fox are so dangerous. You can see the shift year after year towards fascism and what was inconceivable only a decade ago is now accepted and will eventually become the norm. What Nazism taught us is, there is no bottom to this process, even in a society we call "civilized".

Nazi Germany was absolutely swimming in methamphetamine. Soldiers took it, housewives, police, bakers, and the fuhrer himself had quite the habit going too. Pervitin it was called, although Mr. Hitler got injections of the really good shit from his doctor.

Yes they were humans and all humans have the capacity for evil, but truckloads of meth sure does help push it over the top.

11

u/SunyataHappens 1d ago

Millions of doses used during the Nazi blitzkrieg through Poland into France.

8

u/overkill 19h ago

The book "Blitzed" by Norman Ohler is an excellent exploration of both of these subjects. The subtitle of it could be "Were the Nazis crank fueled meth heads?" and the answer is "largely, yes".

They even had meth laced chocolate called Hausfrauenschokolade for housewives so they could do their housework at super speeds.

As an engineer and a history buff, I always thought about what it would have been like for engineers at places like BMW or Krupp to keep working on weapons even after the Nazis had revealed their full evil. How could one do that?

And so I am now unemployed, because at this point in American history I refuse to continue working in the defense industry.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with you wholeheartedly. But...

A lot of people are products of their environment.

Some people believe all people are bastards because everyone they've ever known has been a bastard.

It's not necessarily a MAGAT's fault they are the way they are. Maybe Dad beat him in the name of God, his older brother stole all his food, and the only media on ever was Fox news.

And then Introspection is hard, even for a lot of very smart people.

(Let me post-script this with 'Fuck all Republicans')

It's whatever's going on in our culture that's the carcinogen. MAGA's just a tumor that's metastisized.

52

u/cantadmittoposting 1d ago

It's whatever's going on in our culture that's the carcinogen. MAGA's just a tumor that's metastisized.

yeah i think a lot about how ubiquitous peer to peer global communication (i.e. internet, social media) exposed existing cultural rot, versus how much of that rot was introduced by this reactionary right wing growth.

Prior to widespread internet, i think many of the "middle american conservative evangelicals" may have legitimately been unaware how outdated bigoted their whole culture basically was.

So they showed up to "the internet" and got absolutely inundated with all these supposedly awful or immoral cultures sort of openly just existing and posting, and got metaphorically punched in the face with a rejection of their insular religious bigotry.

So religious and conservative strategists of course jumped on that fear, and weaponized it, and also, via botnets and paid influencers and all that other jazz, recreated the safe space on social media networks by overloading algorithms with "safe" messaging.

so people like poor innocent grandma now logs on to facebook and thinks all is right with the world again because she sees AI generated croissant jesus instead of second cousin billy's pride parade photos from the big city. And the angry people get a whole tiktok algo convincing them they're "winning."

16

u/mmlovin 1d ago

I’m starting to think the internet in general is a mistake. I mean, I’ve known that about social media for a while, but idk man the internet seems to have started to reverse humanity’s progress backward.

All scientific studies say humans are more lonely than ever, it’s a health crisis. That’s humans existing right now. All the studies say none of us like to online date, that we don’t know how to make friends without relying on social media. Like the majority of us would rather be talking to people in the coffee shop, but we aren’t cause we’re all on our phone in the coffee shop. It’s nuts to me. It’s actually changing our brain development.

Like I’m 34, I remember what it was like to have to be present in the real world all the time without a computer world to escape to. You HAD to be with people. & I’m lonely as shit & rely on the internet for socialization cause of depression.

Now what does is a lonely 34 year old look like 30 years from now? Someone who literally never had to have that human interaction to have relationships?

TLDR: The cons of the internet are getting really close to outweighing the pros & it’s being reflected society

18

u/Ok-Primary6610 23h ago

The "time before the Internet" wasn't all gravy train. Some of us don't live around people where we fit in. As a geek, growing up in the late 80's and through the 90's had its rough moments. Now try being a POC, non religious, pansexual AND a geek. Pretty much everything that the right hates and "normal" people made fun of. Imagine how lonely that was before being able to find similar people online to talk to. Something to think about.

Its because they are addicts.

And Hate is their choice of drug.

Hating can literally release endorphins, dopamine and serotonin to deal with the stress that comes from how they perceive their world to be.

Fox news has spent decades dosing the people with daily sprinkles of hate. They create the stress first by presenting absurdly out of context if not totally fabricated viewpoints and issues, then follow those stress inducers with hateful rhetoric that allows the viewers to get both the urge and release in one sitting. Its why its something old people have on 24/7 in their homes. Not the millions of movies and tv episodes, but fox news running 24/7... ITs why young people flock to social media personalities and joe rogan. They do the same, they give them a series of stress inducers and then follow it up with the release through hating minorities and woke and socialism and dei and whatever acronym or group they decide is at fault at the moment.

And everyone enjoys a little hate. Have you ever watched a movie, or seen a game, or heard a song and just disliked it, like you cant understand why others would like it, or you watch segments on daily show or olivers show and get angry but also get a release from them making fun of these things and people, then you go online and read someone sharing that opinion or talk with your friends and they also agree it sucks, it feels good right. You feel justified you feel acknowledged you feel a little happy.... relaxed....

Now imagine that amped up to 1000.

BUT over time people become numb to the hate, it becomes normalized just like anything in excess would do.

UNTIL Trump came along and gave them a new level of amygdala hits like they were taking fent laced crack cocaine straight up their buttholes. And once they got that taste of that kind of high....

Ooooo boy, its like trying to convince your neighborhood crack addict with no teeth and rotting toes that he should stop hitting the pipe x 1000 because their crack is everywhere around them 24/7, its on the radio when they wake up and go to work, its around the office and during lunch breaks, its on their doctors waiting rooms, in their grocery stores, in their gyms, even when they hang out, they talk about how much they love their hate crack cocaine so much, they love to share and boof each others buttholes. They spend their nights before sleeping just taking another hit, so they can dream about their hate. Heck they even go to churches that preach that hate.

To help someone who is brainwashed and inside a cult, you need to take that person away from the cult first and foremost. But like i just wrote, they are surrounded by it everywhere. And with Fox News and Sinclair media owning almost all local news stations, and the rise of social media hate peddlers, its pretty much impossible to reach them.

Trump could literally rape a child on 5th ave in front of every news station and joe rogan and instagram social media influencers, and they would still vote for him next time and find a way to justify him raping a child in front of their eyes and in turn their voters agreeing and blaming the child or democrats or biden or obama.

Because they are addicts. They want their hit of hate no matter what.

For the most part they've been told their entire lives that anybody left of Reagan has been doing this kind of shit.

The right has built a permission structure for this kind of authoritarian regime for decades through relentless agitprop while the media manufactured consent with relentless enlightened centrism, false equivalencies, and nuance poisoning.

And while this was happening, the Democratic party fully succumbed to corporate capture, leaving no actual opposition in Washington to fight this fascist takeover.

15

u/ultimapanzer 1d ago

Yeah, it’s called projection. The “every accusation is a confession” idea is very much reality with these people. Everyone should be concerned by how often they accuse democrats of being pedophiles…

125

u/Simple-Pea8805 1d ago

I think “convinced” is the wrong word, here. They just hate black people and gay people. They don’t care what Trump does, long as Black people and Gay people are disenfranchised.

My coworker was listening to a crypto bro talking about the “[gay slurs]” ruining everything just an hour ago.

81

u/Silver-Bread4668 1d ago

They just hate. Full stop.

The Republican propaganda machine has tapped into that by giving them something to hate. Black people. Gay people. Immigrants. Anyone other than themselves. Anyone they are told to hate.

Even though the hatred is build on bullshit, the threat to those groups that it creates of thin air is very real and tangible. We can't not defend ourselves or our loved ones that are affected.

And so the filthy peasant class gets stuck fighting amongst themselves, even though many can clearly see the bullshit for what it' is, while the rich get richer. If I didn't hate it so much I'd say it's a pretty fucking brilliant strategy.

5

u/this_my_sportsreddit 1d ago

its absolutely wild how much of the left STILL doesn't understand this. We're literally more than a decade into trump and his fans spewing and loving bigotry and hatred, yet still there are large portions of the left who are still like..'man..i wonder what their motivation is. i'm sure going to college will fix them'

12

u/SnooCompliments8967 1d ago

They have been told the "left" is doing what the right is currently doing for decades now - stealing freedom and government and building a fascist empire that's destroying the economoy for their special interests.

When you believe those are your enemies, then you deally don't care much about the moral character of the person fighting them. "Enemy of the enemy is my friend" and all that.

Imagine Kamala launching a shitcoin then rugpulling people. These people would probably ask for her head. But then she would never do that nor people buying the shitcoin since they don’t follow a cult leader and are not* dumbasses

181

u/EnfantTerrible68 1d ago

Imagine if Kamala had been married 3 times with kids from all 3 different fathers?

100

u/Hamonwrysangwich 1d ago

She didn't, and MAGA referred to she and Biden as "Joe and the Hoe" anyway.

44

u/MadRaymer 1d ago

They didn't stop there. They were calling her Heels-up Harris, BJ queen, and a few other things I don't even feel comfortable typing out. There's zero evidence she "slept her way to the top" yet they believe it, because in the MAGA mind there's simply no other way a woman could achieve a position of power.

I think sometimes we forget that in addition to how openly racist much of America is, perhaps even more of it is openly sexist. There's no way to test this theory, but I think if Trump's 2024 opponent had been a black man with exactly the same qualifications Harris had, that opponent would have won (though probably just barely).

33

u/Immediate-Repeat-201 1d ago

Its exactly this. MAGA women saying that she slept her way up is COPE because that's what they all had to do. I feel bad for them as fellow humans but holy shit yall fucked my country up.

I find it funny. Trump somehow has the ability to get away with the blatant corruption and authoritarianism that Republicans have wanted to get away with for decades. George W Bush had to have a terrorist attack to even attempt this level of corruption.

15

u/HotelPuzzleheaded654 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yeah they’ve basically let in a Trojan horse of authoritarianism but in this case the Trojan horse was made of glass.

There is no underpinning ideology beyond consolidating power and enriching himself, that’s why Trump seems to borrow from various political ideologies and the Republican Party is simply the vessel rather than the political principles/ideology.

Whole thing is so morally bankrupt in the most shameless way.

I mean they always complain about government corruption, but corporate contracts literally work by providing a service as cheap as possible so everything extra the government gave you can be considered profit. What he means is "I haven't been given any talking points on that."

Anytime there's a surprising development, you see the silence and confusion among conservatives, often for days, until their pre-approved talking points are handed down.

But some subjects are too dangerous to even issue talking points on. The propagandists decide it's better to just bury it and never speak about it.

It's our duty to bring these subjects up, relentlessly.

It's because they ban anyone who doesn't enthusiastically toe the party line, lmao.

Anyone who goes "hey, wait a second..." is called a fake conservative and then has to either immediately purity test themselves or get banhammered.

Biggest safe space on the Internet for only the most fragile snowflakes.

So a solid portion of the people left on there seem to be legitimately mentally unstable and have made Trump their god.

Conservatives are lemmings, nothing else.

If Trump told them to be liberals, they'd be liberals.

6

u/fkih 1d ago

Every time there’s something indefensible going on with Trump they just post an article about an immigrant doing a crime to get mad about.

6

u/1OO1OO1S0S 1d ago

Well yeah, if it wasn't complaining about trans people or immigrants eating cats and dogs, do they really care?

4

What about Congress? I guess it’s silly to even bring up, but how did we get a 10% stake in a private company without Congress appropriating the funds and writing approving legislation? Where is the legal basis for this?

27

u/Standard-Ad-4077 1d ago

It was going to Intel already via the CHIPS act, so Trump just got something for it upfront instead.

This should be common practise for companies to receive money from the Feds that isn’t in the form of tax breaks. Now the public owns 10% of Intel, which will most certainly be worth more when they eventually sell it if at all.

28

u/Defiant_Review1582 1d ago

You’re getting downvoted but you’re correct. I remember Democrats and Republicans wanting a piece of Boeing last time they “needed” a bailout and then miraculously Boeing was able to find money in the private sector.

ETA: I don’t agree with giving any of these corporations free government money and too big to fail is a shit sandwich that rich people feed taxpayers. It’s socialism for the rich and capitalism for the poor

the differentiating variable between capitalism and socialism is the ownership of the means of production, private hands in capitalism and the people/state in socialism

166

u/Hettie933 1d ago

Yeah, but this is neither of those. Most of his supporters wouldn’t understand what it really is, so it’s smart to label it communism. Not that it will change what is left of their minds.

58

u/telthetruth 1d ago

It’s fucking fascism. An authoritarian government is taking stake in a company to ensure it functions for their benefit.

Socialism implies that the government will take control of a utility to become a public service to benefit all. Intel is not a public fuckin utility and this will benefit no one outside of the oligarchy.

13

u/SimoneNonvelodico 23h ago

It’s fucking fascism. An authoritarian government is taking stake in a company to ensure it functions for their benefit.

The specific reason why this government is doing is of course sus, but I don't think "owning strategically vital industries" is such a bad thing for states to do, even from a left wing perspective. It means there's potentially more accountability and political control over things that are important for the country to keep functioning even in time of crisis - which can be democratic accountability if the country's democracy is healthy (which is not in this case, but different story).

Saying that chips aren't vital in this day is delusional.

12

My understanding is he's repurposing CHIPS Act money to purchase a stake in Intel, so it doesn't affect the debt.

Is that legal? Probably not, but Roberts doesn't care.

94

u/Jamizon1 1d ago

From the article:

"If there is a terrible natural disaster -- a catastrophic fire or mudslide -- it's fair to say that the White House keeps score," he said, "and the president may be less inclined to provide timely federal government support and funding for the response."

Now that would be a dereliction of duty. The POTUS has a responsibility to THE PEOPLE, regardless of their political alignment. Delaying disaster relief would be in conflict with that responsibility, and should be punishable.

Oh, wait… that’s right, the SCOTUS made him immune to prosecution for anything he does while in office… does that also apply to what he ~doesn’t~ do??

Trump is quite simply the worst POTUS in the history of this country.

13

California governor Newsom wrote, "ALL HAIL CHAIRMAN TRUMP! WITH HIS GLORIOUS 10% PURCHASE OF INTEL, THE SOCIALIST REPUBLIC OF AMERICA ENTERS A BOLD NEW ERA OF GOVERNMENT-RUN BUSINESS."

Agence France-Presse text:

All-caps hyperbole, wild accusations and idiosyncratic spelling: not just an average Wednesday on Donald Trump's Truth Social feed, but a new digital media strategy for California Governor Gavin Newsom that is delighting Democrats -- and riling Republicans.

Newsom -- hotly-tipped for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination -- has been parodying Trump with a series of posts written in the Republican leader's distinct style that he hopes will show his party how to beat the social media master at his own game.

In recent weeks the governor has posted all manner of manipulated images depicting him in the kind of over-the-top vignettes popular among Trump's "MAGA" movement -- superimposing his face on Mount Rushmore and appearing to pray with MAGA favorites Tucker Carlson, Kid Rock and Hulk Hogan.

When Trump's one-word weekend post -- saying simply "Bela" -- left the president's supporters scratching their heads, Newsom posted a screenshot alongside his own caption: "DONALD (TINY HANDS), HAS WRITTEN HIS AUTOBIOGRAPHY THIS MORNING — UNFORTUNATELY (LOW IQ) HE SPELLED IT WRONG — 'BETA.'"

[...] Asked for comment, the White House shared with AFP an image it had initially sent US publication Politico repurposing a scene from the show "Mad Men" to demonstrate that Trump is not just unfazed, but doesn't think about Newsom at all.

Politico had called it the first official White House press statement delivered exclusively in meme form.

u/Justnobodyfqwl 1d ago

Y'know. I went to school for political science. I thought it was gonna be a boring and stable field. Local government and all that. Maybe a nonprofit. I didn't wanna have to see the White House Press Memes. I wanted to get a boring government job to stop seeing as many memes.

It's crazy to me that Newsom seems to be the only prominent Democrat who is consistently willing and able to get under Trump's skin and that of his supporters.

All this money to purchase anything they want. Not need - want. Yet we can’t fix our crumbling bridges or pave our pock-marked roads. The reality is that profits for the ruling class has taken everything. The rest of us are supposed to just shut up and pretend we agree. We are also not allowed to notice that the rest of the world is moving on without us. That our capitalism has become so lopsided that it no longer serves as a role model.

The difficulty with trolling the right is that none of them know what socialism is. Most of them don't even have belief systems. It's just Trump GOOD, Liberals BAD. Newsom could cure cancer and republicans would find some way to say that Newsom is the only reason cancer existed in the first place. Meanwhile, Trump could murder everyone's first born child and the typical Trump-tard would just say it was necessary to save the nation.

5

u/Longjumping-Leg5583 16h ago

The US taking a 10% stake in Intel isn’t the first time the government has held equity in major companies—recall the bailouts during the financial crisis.

What’s different here is that previous nationalizations, like GM, were responses to collapse, while Intel’s stake is tied to industrial policy and tech competition.

The major concern now is the precedent of government equity in strategic industries even without imminent failure, raising questions about political influence, long-term market distortion, and future expectations for corporate-government relationships.

This blurs lines between private enterprise and state direction—making the government both a policymaker and a vested shareholder—and could erode market trust in fair competition.
