I went to check out the conservative sub to see what they think of this. No article. No discussion.

My uncle was a hardline maga fan and whenever he was faced with proof he was wrong or that Trump was the shitheel he is, he’d just turn away and say, “Well I don’t know anything about that.” He didn’t want to know. It’s easy enough for them all to cherry pick what belongs in their reality.
178
u/bluemaciz 1d ago edited 1d ago
It really is always that line - “well I don’t know about that.” Like feigning ignorance somehow absolves them of doing any critical thinking.
16
u/pagerussell 1d ago
At that point you tell them this is what they value, these are their principles, and if that's the case, you can no longer be in my life, because I am not going to tolerate people who believe hateful things.

u/InternetGoodGuy 1d ago
I get this all the fucking time from MAGA family.
"I'm telling you about it. So now you know. What do you think?"
They just wave it away and start asking what I think about some stupid culture war thing that isn't happening. Like CRT in grade schools or schools pushing kids to be trans. It's impossible to talk to them about any of this.
16
u/PizzaInMyBread 1d ago
Same here. I gave up. I only expect the die-hard MAGA in my life to actually care when the shit lands on their doorstep and there's no more denying it. It's how they've been in the past with many issues unfortunately.

What he means is "I haven't been given any talking points on that."
Anytime there's a surprising development, you see the silence and confusion among conservatives, often for days, until their pre-approved talking points are handed down.
But some subjects are too dangerous to even issue talking points on. The propagandists decide it's better to just bury it and never speak about it.
It's our duty to bring these subjects up, relentlessly.

I had some of those conversations with a couple family members the first go round with Trump. Not even crazy maga people, just life long Republicans. At best I'd get something like, "I didn't know he did that, that's awful!" Then talking to them later they just went ahead and voted for him a couple more times anyway. I don't even bother now.

There’s a post with maybe 3-4 people discussing it. The bots probably don’t know how to engage yet. It’ll come along with talking points soon enough.

I searched the sub for Intel and sorted by recent and I only see one from yesterday before the 10% stake became official.

Always the same, one person (that is not white and not Christian) did something bad - “see I told yall, dems don’t wanna see the truth, kick all of them out!”
My favourite takes the last few days from their sub: “Newson promised to end homelessness to end 10 years ago and nothing happened” - all while Trump promised to end the Russia Ukraine war in one day “Maxwell herself said Trump is innocent and they will still not be happy with it” - bro don’t even know where to start with that one
21
u/buckyb4dg3r 1d ago
All of their arguments can easily be counter arguments.
The Maxwell thread had a comment that basically said “well if Maxwell said Trump was incriminated, Dems would have said she was truthful!”
Wait, wouldn’t you just do the reverse and claim she’s a felon and perjured herself many times before?

It's such a bizarre place. You'll find a good chunk of "rational" comments on a post about something unhinged Trump says or does, that say he's going too far, it's a waste of time, whatever. Then the magats calling those people liberals get downvoted and cry brigade. Then the next post is like "Yeah I'm super mega pro Trump" and it's equally upvoted. Is it collective split personality or is it just all bots

I do think that sub is riddled with bots and a sprinkle of humans. They wait for it to die down and they wait to see how they are told to spin in based on right wing news talking points

→ More replies (1)27
u/Standard-Ad-4077 1d ago
It was going to Intel already via the CHIPS act, so Trump just got something for it upfront instead.
This should be common practise for companies to receive money from the Feds that isn’t in the form of tax breaks. Now the public owns 10% of Intel, which will most certainly be worth more when they eventually sell it if at all.

the differentiating variable between capitalism and socialism is the ownership of the means of production, private hands in capitalism and the people/state in socialism
166
u/Hettie933 1d ago
Yeah, but this is neither of those. Most of his supporters wouldn’t understand what it really is, so it’s smart to label it communism. Not that it will change what is left of their minds.

It’s fucking fascism. An authoritarian government is taking stake in a company to ensure it functions for their benefit.
Socialism implies that the government will take control of a utility to become a public service to benefit all. Intel is not a public fuckin utility and this will benefit no one outside of the oligarchy.

It’s fucking fascism. An authoritarian government is taking stake in a company to ensure it functions for their benefit.
The specific reason why this government is doing is of course sus, but I don't think "owning strategically vital industries" is such a bad thing for states to do, even from a left wing perspective. It means there's potentially more accountability and political control over things that are important for the country to keep functioning even in time of crisis - which can be democratic accountability if the country's democracy is healthy (which is not in this case, but different story).
Saying that chips aren't vital in this day is delusional.

My understanding is he's repurposing CHIPS Act money to purchase a stake in Intel, so it doesn't affect the debt.
Is that legal? Probably not, but Roberts doesn't care.

From the article:
"If there is a terrible natural disaster -- a catastrophic fire or mudslide -- it's fair to say that the White House keeps score," he said, "and the president may be less inclined to provide timely federal government support and funding for the response."
Now that would be a dereliction of duty. The POTUS has a responsibility to THE PEOPLE, regardless of their political alignment. Delaying disaster relief would be in conflict with that responsibility, and should be punishable.
Oh, wait… that’s right, the SCOTUS made him immune to prosecution for anything he does while in office… does that also apply to what he ~doesn’t~ do??
Trump is quite simply the worst POTUS in the history of this country.

California governor Newsom wrote, "ALL HAIL CHAIRMAN TRUMP! WITH HIS GLORIOUS 10% PURCHASE OF INTEL, THE SOCIALIST REPUBLIC OF AMERICA ENTERS A BOLD NEW ERA OF GOVERNMENT-RUN BUSINESS."
Agence France-Presse text:
All-caps hyperbole, wild accusations and idiosyncratic spelling: not just an average Wednesday on Donald Trump's Truth Social feed, but a new digital media strategy for California Governor Gavin Newsom that is delighting Democrats -- and riling Republicans.
Newsom -- hotly-tipped for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination -- has been parodying Trump with a series of posts written in the Republican leader's distinct style that he hopes will show his party how to beat the social media master at his own game.
In recent weeks the governor has posted all manner of manipulated images depicting him in the kind of over-the-top vignettes popular among Trump's "MAGA" movement -- superimposing his face on Mount Rushmore and appearing to pray with MAGA favorites Tucker Carlson, Kid Rock and Hulk Hogan.
When Trump's one-word weekend post -- saying simply "Bela" -- left the president's supporters scratching their heads, Newsom posted a screenshot alongside his own caption: "DONALD (TINY HANDS), HAS WRITTEN HIS AUTOBIOGRAPHY THIS MORNING — UNFORTUNATELY (LOW IQ) HE SPELLED IT WRONG — 'BETA.'"
[...] Asked for comment, the White House shared with AFP an image it had initially sent US publication Politico repurposing a scene from the show "Mad Men" to demonstrate that Trump is not just unfazed, but doesn't think about Newsom at all.
Politico had called it the first official White House press statement delivered exclusively in meme form.

All this money to purchase anything they want. Not need - want. Yet we can’t fix our crumbling bridges or pave our pock-marked roads. The reality is that profits for the ruling class has taken everything. The rest of us are supposed to just shut up and pretend we agree. We are also not allowed to notice that the rest of the world is moving on without us. That our capitalism has become so lopsided that it no longer serves as a role model.

The difficulty with trolling the right is that none of them know what socialism is. Most of them don't even have belief systems. It's just Trump GOOD, Liberals BAD. Newsom could cure cancer and republicans would find some way to say that Newsom is the only reason cancer existed in the first place. Meanwhile, Trump could murder everyone's first born child and the typical Trump-tard would just say it was necessary to save the nation.

The US taking a 10% stake in Intel isn’t the first time the government has held equity in major companies—recall the bailouts during the financial crisis.
What’s different here is that previous nationalizations, like GM, were responses to collapse, while Intel’s stake is tied to industrial policy and tech competition.
The major concern now is the precedent of government equity in strategic industries even without imminent failure, raising questions about political influence, long-term market distortion, and future expectations for corporate-government relationships.
This blurs lines between private enterprise and state direction—making the government both a policymaker and a vested shareholder—and could erode market trust in fair competition.

The one thing you can give Trump credit for is that he is very transparent about his corruption given it relies on his base being total morons.
They have this assumption everyone is corrupt but it’s okay if you don’t try to hide it.
