Even if that's all it did I'd consider it worth doing. Both are people and if bad news has to be given and the best you can do is let the messenger feel a little better why not do that?

I'm all for finding the best way for both parties but if you can help one without hurting the other then it's still a worthy method unless you have an alternative that helps both more.
