Open | Software OneDrive has taken my email captive.

Wow. I'm being held to ransom by Microsoft! OneDrive was set up automatically on this desktop computer when I bought it, i believe. I didn't ask for it, but it started automatically saving all my files and pics to it. I would select not to, but it would override me. It wasn't an issue until now. So I didn't renew my Microsoft Office subscription this year because I'm not using it that much. Just today Outlook told me it was out of storage, and that out of storage is caused by OneDrive being 2500% over the limit.... What? First I've heard of a limit to it. I now can't send any emails until I resolve the over limit issue. But when I go to OneDrive, it wont let me delete any files.... because I am over the limit??!! WTF? Of course the option to resolve this is to set up a monthly debit with Microsoft of $16 per month for 1TB of cloud storage. Storage that I never freaking wanted!!! Has anyone had this issue and fixed it? Do I have to subscribe to be able to delete it all?

So recently my father made me download this apk from WhatsApp on my phone . He said it was from trusted source but still I wasn't sure about its legitimacy so I downloaded it, after which when I try to open it it took to play store like website and said to update but when I click update it was saying not secure so I stopped . And then I went apk section on my file managyand deleted the app. But yesterday this incident happened when I went to sleep my phone battery was 40% then it changed to 10% and when I went to see the battery usage I saw the same app which has used 78% of battery so I clicked on it again 'Foce Stop' it and deleted it . After few minutes this website app "com.mkelewx.mafpskj" came as shown in the picture. I can't seem to click on it and do anything. Please someone tell asap what to do.

Open | Networking Why am I in Japan?

Recently, my IP tells me I am in Tokyo. I am not using a VPN. In fact, I have deleted the VPN I usually use in a last attempt to escape Asia. It is also not just a browser issue. I try to play a game, and I am connected to a Japanese server where I have 200 ping. Downloading anything is impossible. Occasionally, I can reboot my computer and it will show I'm in my home country for the rest of the time I am using it. When I shut down and boot it up the next day, there's a good chance I'm in Japan again. The last 4 times I've tried to restart my PC, this method has not worked. It's always Japan. It's always Tokyo. My ISP always shows DataCamp Limited (this is not my actual ISP). I haven't downloaded anything new recently. There's been no change in how I'm using my PC or what I'm doing on it. This issue just suddenly started. I have no idea what the problem is. Do I keep restarting my computer til I get lucky and I'm back in Europe, then never shut it down? Do I just reset my entire PC?

Open | Hardware Beer in pc?

Upvotes

I was drinking some beer and accidentally coughed while swallowing. A few small droplets of spit mixed with beer sprayed around my room. I noticed that at least two tiny drop might have landed on my PC and three on my keyboard, but I didn’t see anything else obvious. Do you think my equipment will be okay? I wiped the droplets off.

Open | Hardware Why do my GPUs keep dying? On my third card and losing it.

So, I’m at my wit’s end here. I’ve gone through three GPUs in the past couple of months, and every single one ends up dying in the same system.

  • First a GTX 1050 (slot-powered, no PCIe cable) - dead.
  • Then an RX 570 - dead.
  • Now my RX 580, which is under warranty, just started throwing green screens as soon as drivers load (works in Safe Mode, but crashes with normal AMD drivers).

The weird part is the timing: they last maybe 2 weeks to a month before showing signs of death.

My setup:

  • PSU: SilverStone ST50F-ES230 (500W, budget unit)
  • Outlet: using a 3-prong to 2-prong adapter (no earth ground; I live in the Philippines where electrical grounding is basically non-existent)
  • Cooling: decent-ish airflow, multiple case fans, temps aren’t spiking

What I’ve tried:

  • Reinstalling drivers (DDU) - no luck; it doesn't die when you first reinstall drivers but as soon as you restart it, that's when it starts to die spontaneously
  • Temps seem fine (fans everywhere, side panel off at times)
  • Different PCIe cables/adapters

At this point I’m wondering if my PSU and lack of grounding are just killing these cards, or if I just got insanely unlucky with secondhand GPUs. The GTX 1050’s death is what makes me suspicious, since it didn’t even use PCIe power.

Is this definitely a power/ground issue, or could something else (like my motherboard) be frying these cards? And most importantly, what should I replace first to make sure I don’t keep RMA’ing and frying cards in a loop?

Open | Software Remove meta data from pictures and videos

Upvotes

Photos / videos Taken on an iPhone and using a windows laptop/pc.

I’d like to remove the meta data.

FOR PICTURES: Would uploading the pics to the laptop and screenshotting them change the data?

FOR VIDEOS: I don’t know how. Can someone help?

Would the quality of the files reduce too? I’d like the quality to stay the same. Thanks

Open | Mac External microphone not being picked up as input in MacBook Air after following techniques that are supposed to make it work

Upvotes

I followed several videos to try to connect my external wired microphone to my MacBook Air, but it still doesn't work and I want to know what I'm doing wrong. (Sorry if my language isn't the most technical or correct, I'm not great with tech stuff. If there is something I should explain more to make it make sense let me know and I will try.)

Details of technical bits:
MacBook Air, Stadium Dynamic Microphone, 3M XLR to 3.5mm AUX cable, 3.5mm to 6.35mm AUX Adapter Plug, 3.5mm male to 6.3mm female audio adapter, a headset of which I am not sure the specifics but it came with split audio and microphone wires and one of those colour coded splitters that join into one plug with three black rings.

I was told to connect the green headphone plug of the headset into the green plug on the splitter, and the external microphone to the red plug on the splitter, where the red microphone plug on the headset normally goes. This should have allowed the external mic to be recognised by the input section of Sound in System Settings. The videos said to make sure the amount of rings on the external mic plug matched with the number on the headset mic. The cord attached to the external mic has one black ring on it and came with an adapter to make it bigger, so plugged it into that and got an adapter for a 6.3mm to a 3.5 mm plug with two black rings, the same amount of black rings as the microphone and headphone plugs attached to the headset. The plug on the splitter that I have plugged into the headphone jack on my laptop has three black rings.

When I connect the external mic to the mic half of the splitter and the headset to the headphone part, which should get the laptop to recognise the microphone and connect to it, it doesn't recognise the mic as input in Sound settings, while when I attach both of the plugs on the headset it recognises the headphones' built in mic.

I don't know what's going on, I've tried various different methods that people have said work but nothing has. Whenever I plug the external mic in it just shows up as an output called external headphones. Help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Whenever i try to play a game, a few minutes into playing, my pc just crashes and restarts.. no blue screen of death, but right before it crashes, i i notice my disk in task manager goes to 100%. i have done a RAM. CPU, and GPU stress test at the same time and no crashing. i have updated all my drivers, monitored my voltages and temps in a program. nothing is giving me clues as to what is wrong with my pc or how to fix it. It only crashes when i try to play any game. does anyone know whats going on or how to fix it? i have replaced my M.2 with a new one and it worked fine for about a month thinking it was the issue, but then i started having the problem all over again. i have also had my pc for over 5 years without previous issues

Open | Windows Windows installation reboots every time

Upvotes

When I wanted to install windows 11 instead of 10 I had a problem. During the installation of windows 11 my computer rebooted after a couple of minutes. The same issue with windows 10 installation. It can be rebooted when windows logo just appears or at any step of installation. I used Rufus to make boot usb, chose MBR and GPT, NTFS. I have already disabled secure boot option in bios and I dont think there is a problem with hardware, I bought this laptop last year.
I have already tried many methods and once there was somehow log from UEFI:NTFS 2.5 where the last line was 'launching efi\boot\bootx64.efi' and nothing happened

My computer is Asus Tuf Gaming A15, I have second SSD but it still reboots even when I take it out

Open | Software Windows wont change output device

Upvotes

Hi there,

for quite some time i have cant just change my output device on windows 11.
I have a headset (connected via a stick) and a bluetooth speaker (connected with a bluetooth stick).

If i want to switch between them i have to deactivate the one i am using and then activate the other one in the sound settings.

Tried some stuff like deactivating exclusive control by programs, fixing it with the DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth thing. Feels like i have to reinstall windows or is there any fix?
Thanks in advance.

Open | Hardware New SSD works for a few days, crashes and then appears as unknown

Upvotes

Bought a new SSD last week and it was working fine, 2 days later it started crashing on games installed on it and started showing as "Unknown" in task manager. Managed to format it and it worked fine for 1 or 2 days until it started happening again, this time crashed on desktop. (I don't have Windows installed on it, I only know that it was the SSD because it started showing as unknown again) Used Crystal Disk and it's health is at 100%.

I have it installed on my second NvME slot and read somewhere else that it might be interfering with my SATA connections so I changed them to slot 3 and 4. It's working fine right now but I suspect it won't last forever, any idea why this is happening ? Can't find anyone else with this issue.

My mobo is a MSI B650 Gaming Plus Wifi and the SSD in question is a 1TB Samsung 990 EVO Plus.

Open | Software What are the key considerations for starting a gaming website in 2025?

Upvotes

I've been researching the business models behind successful online gaming platforms, and for those interested in the space, the current landscape offers some interesting opportunities.

Modern B2B Gaming's solutions have made it more accessible than ever for entrepreneurs to launch their own branded gaming sites. These platform providers handle the complex backend technology, licensing, and game libraries, allowing you to focus on marketing and building your community.

From what I've seen, some of the competitive advantages these providers offer can include:

-High Revenue Share Models: Partnerships where the operator keeps a significant majority of the generated revenue.

-Rapid Deployment: Solutions that can get a platform from concept to launch in about a month.

-Diverse Game Libraries: Immediate access to thousands of games from top-tier software providers.

-Innovative Features: Some even offer risk-managed mechanics like jackpot pools funded by the provider.

It's a space that requires serious due diligence, a solid marketing plan, and an understanding of your target audience. But for the right person, it's a path to creating a strong brand in a growing industry.

If you're exploring this, I'm happy to share the research I've compiled on B2B Gaming and what to look for in a partnership. Feel free to send me a message

Open | Hardware What is a normal noise level for modern gaming PCs?

Upvotes

Hey there, I recently purchased a new Gaming PC with the following setup.

  • Fractad Design North tower with two Fractal Design Dynamic X2 GP-18 PWM fans
  • AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D
  • Be Quiet! Pure Rock PRO 3
  • MSI B550-A PRO
  • 32GB (2x16GB) G.Skill RipJaws V DDR4 3600MHz
  • 2TB Kingston NV3 M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 NVME
  • MSI RT X5070 Shadow 2X OC 12GB GDDR7
  • 750W be quiet! System Power 11 B

What makes me wonder now is the noise. I measure around 50 decibels directly at the tower, which seems incredibly loud based on past PCs I owned. I basically have no clue about hardware at all, so I figured I ask for advice.

I already installed the Afterburner software, but the setup there seemed good according to what I was able to read online.

I was almost not able to hear my previous PC, this one I hear even with my headset on.

Amy advice?

Open | Windows I downloaded and opened a exe file, the next day they hacked my one mail. What i will do?

Upvotes

I ran the file through virustotal and found no viruses in this file. When I opened the file, Windows Defender directly deleted the file. It found 3 viruses, these were trojans. A day later, it stole my first Microsoft account and then my Steam account. I saw the notifications while trying to log into my Epic Games account and recovered my Epic account. I changed my Google passwords and downloaded Kaspersky. Do you think I need to reinstall Windows?

Open | Hardware X99 P4 not booting

Upvotes

Hi everyone, I recently bought a "ZSUS X99-P4" motherboard combo off AliExpress, I put everything together and it shows zero signs of life when trying to turn it on, I've tested the GPU and psu, they both seem to be working fine, what options do I have for saving this build? Is my motherboard just DOA? Any help is much appreciated. (PS. The return window is up sadly, since it took me a couple of weeks to get the rest of the parts together)

Open | Hardware Dell Inspiron 14 5410 2-in-1 – Battery health dropped badly + need advice on replacement & RAM upgrade

Upvotes

So my laptop (Dell Inspiron 14 5410 2-in-1) battery is absolutely trash now. When it was new, the design capacity was 41,006 mWh, but now it only charges to ~17,348 mWh. That’s less than half. Basically, it dies if I even look at it wrong.

Looking at the battery report, it went downhill super fast:

  • Started at ~26,000 mWh in April 2024
  • Dropped to ~22,000 mWh by September
  • Fell below 13,000 mWh in December 🤦
  • Now August 2025 → stuck around 17,000 mWh, doesn’t move

So yeah, the thing’s cooked. Probably all the charging cycles + me using it plugged in a lot killed it.

Now I need to replace it and Dell offers two options:

  • 4-cell 54 Wh Lithium Ion
  • 3-cell 42 Wh Lithium Ion

Which one should I go for? I obviously want the one that lasts longer and doesn’t die in a year again.

Also, my RAM situation sucks. I’ve got 8GB (4 + 4) and Task Manager constantly screams at me with 87% usage. I try to run multiple VMs (FlareVM, Ubuntu, etc.) and it just eats up everything. Thinking of upgrading to 16GB (8 + 8). Is it worth it for VM-heavy use?

So yeah, need advice on:

  1. Why my battery degraded this badly (is it just Dell being Dell?).
  2. Which replacement battery I should pick (3-cell vs 4-cell).
  3. Whether upgrading to 16GB RAM will actually help with VMs.

Appreciate any tips before I spend money on this thing

Open | Phone OnePlus 10T dropped in the pool

Upvotes

Hello, So my phone was dropped in the pool for a few? (hard to tell) minutes without me realizing. It was powered off when I found it. I waited 24hrs and checked if it's working and it does. I've noticed that both back and front camera has water In it, and therefore they don't really work - I can make photos but they are really blurry. I left it for another 48 hrs to dry and it didn't help. Other than that everything else does, maybe just fingerprint login is slower than before. I had a case and protective screen layer if it matters. I wonder if I should go to repair shop or is it over for it? I don't think they will have parts for this phone. Also is it even safe to charge it now?

Open | Hardware RTX 4060 Ti not detected on cold boot — only works after multiple restarts

Upvotes

Hey everyone, I’m having a strange issue with my year old gpu. My GPU (Gigabyte RTX 4060 Ti Aero OC 16GB) doesn’t show any display signal on a cold boot. Sometimes it takes 3–5 restarts before it’s detected. Once it shows up, it works fine in Windows — but the problem comes back every time I power off the PC for a while.

My build:

  • CPU: Ryzen 7 7700X
  • Motherboard: MSI B650 Gaming Plus WiFi
  • RAM: T-Force 32GB DDR5 @ 6000MHz
  • Storage: Kingston Fury Renegade 1TB SSD
  • GPU: Gigabyte RTX 4060 Ti Aero OC 16GB (GV-N406TAERO OC-16GD)
  • PSU: Deepcool 750D Gold Rated

What I’ve tried so far:

  • Reseated the GPU and PCIe cables (cleaned slot too)
  • Checked BIOS — PCIe slot is set to auto/Gen 4
  • Updated motherboard BIOS
  • Tried different DP/HDMI cables and ports
  • Booted using integrated graphics — GPU doesn’t appear in Device Manager or GPU-Z until it finally “wakes up” after several power cycles
  • Temps and power seem normal once it boots
  • Couldn’t find a VBIOS update on Gigabyte’s website

Symptoms:

  • No display output on first boot of the day
  • GPU RGB lights up, but system posts only via integrated graphics
  • After 10–15 mins of retries, GPU is suddenly detected and works normally

Has anyone experienced this cold boot detection problem? Is it a bad GPU, motherboard issue, or something with the BIOS/firmware? Should I RMA the card immediately?

Any advice would help before I send it back. Thanks in advance!

Open | Software How to get out of the boot manager in Lenovo (W11)

Upvotes

So I did a very silly thing and while my laptop (Lenovo Ideapad L340) was installing a W11 update I wanted to lower the screen brightness and pressed F11 on my keyboard then I pressed F12 to get a little brightness back. When I did that I got into Boot Manager Screen and is giving me two Options

Windows Boot Manager (Samsung MZALQ128HBHQ)

EFI PXE Network (54-05-DB-A5)

I just want to get back to my normal Windows session and I don't want to mess up even further.

I tried to google how to get out but apparently there are not many people that got into this situation.

Thanks for you help

Open | Hardware Removed hdd without disabling optane

As the title says I opened my laptop and removed the hdd and replaced with a new ssd. I didn't know anything about disabling the optane.

Now I have the hdd in an external enclosure, but will all the files be there? They look like they are but I can't manually test 1tb of files.

Should I put the original hdd back in the laptop and try to disable the optane?

Only issue is I was confused and I clicked remove metadata on the new install inside the optane software. So I've probably severed he link now.

The optane shows as unallocated in disk management, but easus recovery shows plenty of files.

What's my best thing to do here? I'm lost

Thanks

Open | Software Wifi disconnects automatically then weird stuffs happen

Upvotes

I'm currently using an MSI GF65 Thin 10UE
I have this home wifi that my family have just recently installed with pretty good connection speed. My laptop works perfectly fine when connecting to the wifi and using it for the first 5-10 mins. But after that, the wifi disconnects by itself. I went into connection page and for whatever reason, it displays 0 nearby networks. I live in an apartment so normally there should be like 20+ nearby hotspots so this is very weird. I tried turning the wifi off and on again but for some weird reasons, the wifi turns on right after i try switching it off and this happens even inside the settings page, where that wifi toggle turns itself on even when i tried to switch it off. Finally, I tried restarting my computer and the laptop just get stuck in the loading screen with the circles moving around in a circle. Even shutting down doesn't work as it also gets stuck in the same screen. I had to force shutdown by holding the power button. This process repeats every time i turn the computer on and doesn't stop.

Why is this happening??? I've never experienced this sort of glitch ever in my 4 years of using this laptop. What the hell is going on???

Link to video showing the glitch: https://youtu.be/ae9hbUYMf3k
