A narcissist is someone that is obsessed with looks, self esteem and reputation. It sounds like a big word to people on TikTok so they use it to refer to "sadists, sociopaths, liars and cheaters" when in reality it refers to someone who is interested in their physical appearance and wants others to value them for their appearance and status.
Narcissism is a mental complex, it's really not serious. It isn't laughing in someone's face when they're down, it isn't taking joy out of someone else's wrongdoings, it isn't about outsmarting one's peers even.

While OP’s mother’s behaviour could just easily be explained by a number of other conditions, it’s absolutely consistent with narcissism, which is chiefly characterised by a fragile ego and need for approval combined with a lack of empathy. Obsession with physical appearance is just one possible expression, it can absolutely include everything you listed at the end too, and the way OP’s mother is acting is even potentially an example of status obsession since it’s an aggressive display of parental authority

Narcissists aren't incapable of empathy, that is antisocial personality disorder (APD) in which people often manipulate to get what they want because they have a lack of development for empathetic feelings. No, it’s both NPD and ASPD, except neither of them are actually fully incapable of empathy, their ability to act upon it is just heavily stunted. You can look this up, I’ve got no idea where you’re getting your understanding of NPD from but like I said it’s even more wrong than what TikTok says. Almost the same exact definition. The Cleveland Clinic likewise lists lack of empathy, entitlement and a willingness to exploit others as all being symptoms of Narcissistic Personality Disorder. The Mayo Clinic lists reacting with rage or contempt and trying to belittle other people to make themselves appear superior as a symptom. These are all legitimate academic sources and they all back up what I'm saying, what do you got?
