That kinda sucks. I know a lot of people hate the NS, but their trains are way nicer than Arriva trains. Also the NS personnel is in general very kind and cheerful, while the personnel from Arriva is cranky and authoritative.

Many dutch people hate the NS bcs they only heard about the NS & how ‘bad’ it is (which is bullshit). I would recommend them traveling outside the country by train & they will see how good NS actually is.

Exactly, the NS is relatively good compared to neighbouring countries imo. And yes, I feel like the NS suffers from the same thing nickelback and Justin Bieber suffered from when he just got famous. It was just very 'cool' to dislike him
