[Serious Discussion Only] How would the DiMeo Family fare if Tony was killed when Uncle Junior shot him causing a new stable Boss to be named quickly?
Silvio wasn't able to handle the stress of being Boss, Junior was lost mentally, Tony if he was killed goes to spaghetti and meatball heaven, perhaps Vito could be named as Acting Boss, but once he's caught with another man in a club Jersey would be struggling again, maybe Christopher steps up as Boss.

The top two vying for the spot were Vito and Sil and neither one was really a great candidate. Christopher doesn't have the respect, IDC what dead guys blood relation he is. Paulie could be a contendor but I didn't see him worrying about anything but his 100K. He's the least strategic or leaderly out of any of them too, basically just a mook. The Bareses have never shown any inclination. Patsy might actually be someone that everyone else could agree on and get nominated by default; not unlike Tony himself.

One of two things happens. Vito with NY behind him gets the power. IMO, this is what happens. I could see Vito killing Sil or anyone else rumored to take over. Vito made sense in a lot of ways. The other is The Barese Crew. At one time they had the biggest crew. By that time, do we know if they still had that much power? Makes sense if Albert gets bumped up to Boss. In all, Vito and Albert makes the most sense, but because Vito had Phil behind him, mostly likely that would be the case. Also, all jokes aside, Vito was good at his job. I know, pun coming.

Maybe if Vito was made boss, with all the additional scrutiny, perhaps he would have stopped pursuing his ‘alternative’ lifestyle.
Instead of ‘doing so quietly’.

If anything, Vito takes a vacation to get away from being boss and meets Johnny cakes. They could have a "swing by when you can" kind of fling while Vito pursues making $5 mill a year in gangster shit.
Lets them explore the gay gangster thing, but spread out over the season or two, instead of a few episodes. Could have been bigger than garbage.

I like it. Vito torn between being boss and his true homosexual self.
Perhaps Vito Jr wouldn’t have wound up taking a dump in the showers looking like a Puerto Rican hoo-ah, if he’d have been made boss. And Uncle Philly wouldn’t have had to step in.

At the time Junior tried to kill Tony, Vito was not a candidate.

Vito was building ramps then he wasn’t getting named for anything. Junior hadn’t fully declined at that point, he would have been boss and Mikey would have ran shit in the street for him.

I think this post is referring to when Junior shot Tony thinking he was malanga in season 6

There would probably end up being infighting amongst them. One side would probably side with Vito and the other with Silvio. There's no way Paulie or Chrissy could be boss.

Who backs Silvio? He was always an odd character. You saw Vito getting along with guys in his crew. Even Paulie liked, respected him to some extent. Sil was liked by people, perhaps because of reputation and other stuff. Others didn't really go much to him. Sil was a lot like Tony. As the show went further along, they seemed to have less and fewer friends. Vito was very popular up until, you know what.

I think the point is that NJ felt apart long time before the beginning of our story, and quickly became a wolf den with no stability, or is so closed by any side by much more powerful players that it can't develop into a full-fledged organization, because it has to constantly defend from both internal and external forces that are always trying to tear it apart.
It's a chicken with no head, and one boss, however capable, can't do much about it, plus seems that every "moving parts" of society wants and needs a criminal organization in NJ, but at the same time everyone is scared by them gaining any form of autonomy so they make sure to cut everything that stands out

Additional Question: what in the hell was Dick Barone talking about when he said “the illustrated man” when talking to Tony about Junior and Richie selling coke on the garbage routes? Gahbage is their bread and budda, or at least it yuse ta be.

Someone like Vito or Albert would be probably be the top contenders. They are capo earners who command respect. However that would cause obvious issues because one was a snitch and the other was on bp meds

In all actuality, I could see Patsy being a pretty capable boss. I've seen people mention Paulie before, but he is a gangster through-and-through. His life is dedicated to being a soldier/Captain.
