[Serious Discussion Only] When would you say the sopranos gets good/entertaining?
Recently decided to watch the sopranos after seeing people keep recommending it and comparing it to shows like breaking bad and better call Saul and also saying the sopranos is better/on the same level as those shows. I found those two shows to extremely interesting since the beginning but I’m currently on episode four of the sopranos and I just think it’s boring. Nothing major/entertaining is happening and to be honest I don’t see how anyone would say this show is good. The best I can see it being is alright and rewatching a different show would be more enjoyable.

I mean if you aren't into it you're not into it, but the action escalates as each season goes on, and the end of season two is the most memorable TV I have ever watched
s1e5 actually has some gritty mafia drama, now that i thinkabout it

It's not for everyone. If you aren't enjoying it by Ep. 4 then you might as well find another show.

the start of season 1 is probably the weakest point of the show. It gets better and better peaking around 3-4. 5 and 6 are great TV, but get dark/depressing

I was hooked from the beginning. College probably spoke to me. What a great show!

Honestly don’t listen to most of these people. They’re going to overly glaze the show and be sarcastic but I was on the same boat as you. For me, it took until the final 2 or 3 episodes of season 1 for me to really start to get into it. IMO season 1 is the weakest of the 6 and it only gets better from there on out. Season 1 was more or less just a way to get introduced to the crew and whatnot but by the end of it I started to get the feel for it. Just give it time and i promise it gets better. But hey even if it doesn’t, it’s not for everyone and that’s ok.

I watched breaking bad when it was airing weekly and wasn’t sold until maybe midway through the second season. I still watched every week because that was the style at the time but dude…the sopranos is good from the beginning. Maybe you’re a flambé

the show sharpens up progressively. it's more Twin Peaks than it is The Wire also, so a certain kind of artistic appetite goes a long way towards connecting to it.

I felt that way too, I find everything a bit boring at first. To be honest, it only started to get better around season 4. I remember little about the beginning. But then it gets better when you get to know the characters.

It’s possible it’s just not for you. I found it interesting from the pilot. It’s got a lot of great dynamics.
It’s about the mafia and that culture, so I really wouldn’t compare it to breaking bad or better call saul. Not all crime dramas are the same thing or translate to both audiences. You can like one and not the other.
Big Bang Theory had millions of fans and lots of success but I would personally rather gargle glass than watch one second of it and find it unbearable. Different strokes and all that.

College is episode 5. If you are still bored after then it’s just not for you. And so what? There’s no stigmata these days. I have tried many times to get into Deadwood and I have just never been able to get into it for whatever reason

I hear you never played college ball OP. Small hands? But seriously, many folk express similar sentiments on season 1’s earlier episodes. Push on brother. 90% of the remaining episodes in this series are groundbreaking. If you still feel the same after completing the series, you’ll never have the makings of a varsity athlete….ever

When? S1, E1. ”It’s good to be in something from the ground floor. I came too late for that and I know. But lately, I'm getting the feeling that I came in at the end. The best is over.”

This show is nothing like BB. If you think it’s boring, it’s not for you. Just find something else.

It’s not the same as those shows (both of which I also enjoyed). There are not many moments where you’re hitting play on the episode because you need to find out “how is Tony gonna get out of this one!?”.
While I very much enjoy the plot of the Sopranos it is a character driven show and just as much a comedy as it is a drama.
I’m on my umpteenth rewatch at this point but when I first watched it I remember thinking it hit its stride mid season 1.
