Was reading through some comments about the best hitman, and a lot of people rightfully pointed out that when Tony is truly in a crisis or needs something done urgently and done well, he turns to Sil. So, after killing Ralphie, why do you think Tony calls Chris for the coverup instead of Sil? One could say it’s because killing someone as high up as Ralphie could cause dysentery among the ranks, but I’m skeptical that Sil would have done this if he was the one let in on the “secret” about Tony killing Ralphie. Please regale me with your thoughts!

Maybe it is the wine that is making me emotional, but can I just say that from the bottom of my black heart, that I enjoy coming to this sub reddit to escape the regular-ness of life, but going on other sub reddits for television shows or podcasts or stuff like wrestling or even Howard Stern, a lot of the fandom just hate post for the stuff they watch and it gets brutal. The conversations become rage bait and reactionary and no one is having a good time it seems. This sub reddit, sure we just repeat quotes and that can get tiresome at times but there are also great discussions about the show, but I would rather come in here and read repeated quotes and talk about this thing of ours than even partake in any conversations about current shows or podcasts that I am listening to or watching. So thanks for being a dope sub reddit that has added value to my life. I think what is even cooler is that even though there is discourse over the show's ending and endless debates, that a lot of the discourse for the show is not as prevalent because it came out in a time before there was forced discourse over the quality of the show dipping like other current shows go through, so we can look back at this show that was pretty much near perfect for most of its run. As some of you know, there is a Colombian remake of Breaking Bad called Metastasis which is essentially a shot for shot remake of the original show. The setting is different and characters names are translated. For example Walter White is Walter Blanco (blanco is the Colombian word for white). But for the most part the story and plot is the exact same.

My question is, why isn’t there a Latin American version of the sopranos yet? It could be set in Bogota. Christopher could be Cristiano, paulie could be Pablo, Pussy could be Gato, and uncle Jun could be Tío jr. Furio could be “Enojado” and he could be a Spanish bullfighter from Andalucia.

Instead of running a college football sports book they could take bets on Colombian “futball” (Colombian for “American soccer”). Silvio could get some Latina strippers from across the border who are trying to escape Venezuela. Instead of eating gabagool all the time they could eat chorizo.

Anyway I think this is a pretty good idea and it could be funny. Why hasn’t David chase thought of it yet? Is he stupid?

What do you think Johnny Sack was like when he was an associate/solider? He’s not the biggest strongest guy. Do you think he was asked to do a lot of heavy work? Or more extortion and union rigging?? Can’t tell much about his dad from context of the show - like if he was also connected or not. Although he does live in Boston now

It's actually fucking wild to me that Chrissy didn't consider that the juices would keep cooking the steak after he took it off the grill. It's like he was more focused on talking to Tony abt whatever it was than the quality of the meatsh.

"Mouth" is a major plot point in that episode, which is titled "Boca." (Using your mouth, and, running your mouth).

Tony makes jokes about this by singing "South of the Border," but this may also point to where people speak Spanish.

I am not aware of any Spanish slang involving the word "Boca," but I can tell you that the Spanish subtitles on HBO for "whistling in the wheatfield" and "Bushman of the Kalahari" translate to "going down to the river" and "diver without an air tank."

I left this out because Jimmy doesn't rat for a few more episodes, but someone pointed out that "Ratting someone out doesn't apply just to the cops. In this episode, Bobbi,Carmela, and Tony all rat out Junior for eating pussy, Meadow rats out Coach Hauser to her parents, and Sil rats out Hauser to Artie.  Tony snitches the diddler out to someone who has the authority to arrest him. "

TWO TIMES in the series there’s proof he didn’t have it. Once when little Bobby junior is at his house and whispers “dad he doesn’t even have cable!” And then again when Furio goes to watch “the Bloomberg” we hear his disappointed voice yelling “NO CABLE!”

And yet like a total stunad I fell for it when he told Angelo “I have cable”. Can you imagine the disgrace? Angelo died in the back of Phil’s Cadillac never knowing the truth.

I feel like Ralph's proclivities don't get enough discussion as a whole, but this a question I don't think I've ever seen brought up in particular.

As we all know, Jun whistling to the wheat field was enough of a fiasco, but taking it up the hoo-ha? Sure, he got Janice to do it, but if cunnilingus is enough to make you question a man, then Ralph might as well be out in New Hampshire with Johnny Cakes.

As a side, it was a fairly smart play by Ralph to tell his crew that it was Janice's idea to play in his ass and that he shot it down.

In season 1 or 2, Christopher isn’t made yet, he goes into the bakery and the guy makes him wait for ever to get the baked goods.

not that carmela wasn’t evil in her own way by being Tony’s enabler but her father stealing all of the materials from the spec house while Tony was in his potential death bed and then initially acting like he had no clue what she was talking about seems like a pretty evil thing to do

The scene at the end of cold cuts where Tony beats Georgie deaf kills me every time. Is it supposed to?

When Fran Felstein started that " happy birthday Mr. President " I got totally creeped out.

Christopher is shown countless chances to change course and change his life for the better and actually have his "arc". He knows the risks that the mafia life will lead him to prison or death, yet he still pledges loyalty to Tony, even saying he’ll go to hell for him. He complains that a character should have an arc, but he never lives one.

He starts a family but treats it as a prop, not a real commitment. He has near-death moments, like when he’s shot and dreams of hell, or when he realizes the mob he sacrificed for gives him no respect. He even has the chance to chase his real passion as a screenwriter, but the mafia life always pulls him back, as Chris just cant get rid of the irrability of dealing with the "regularness of life"

Christopher’s story is about decay. The Sopranos shows that people don’t always grow or redeem themselves. Life is not a fairytale, sometimes they rot in place. More people actually rot rather than progress in aspects of themselves, it's natural. Christopher doesn’t rise,he wastes away. His “arc” is a reverse arc.

After they whacked Phil Leotardo did butch become the boss of the NY family? Butch was the one who gave Tony the ok on Phil.

I absolutely loved that show from beginning to end. Loved the characters, loved the dialogue, loved the editing, loved everything about it!! This show definitely makes my top 3 with Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul I gotta recommend that show to anyone now What a ride this was Will be rewatching the whole show someday for sure

Always found it interesting how in S613, René (the guy Bobby whacks) rips Bobby’s shirt open as dies. I think this is an overlooked detail, but I always viewed this as symbolic.

Chase drops these allusions throughout the series (like Christopher and the Tree in S617 or Schwinn losing his ability to speak in S604), and it normally tells us something. I think the shirt being ripped open is alluding to he’s heart falling out in the name of crime. It’s a sign that Bobby is marked, and he no longer shielded from the evil that swirls around him. He’s committing a mortal sin, despite his reluctance or the fact that he’s one of the more innocent characters of the show.
