Super curious where everyone gets their Toledo news!
I thought it would be fun to create a mega list to help new folks learn more about current events, but also thought it would just be cool to see what's out there I don't know about!
Feel free to add your suggestions below, and I'll add them to the list!

Titles says it. I’m 35/m and used to live in Toledo, now I’m about 45 minutes away from my favorite spots, but still come out whenever I can. I like going by myself, and like playing with people that ask to play, but it’d be nice to have someone to hit up now and then to go shoot a few games too.
Also if you haven’t gone to The Golden Road, check it out on a night they have a show!

Got tickets out in Toledo and need to find somewhere to park my car for 5-7 days. Somewhere safe and free/cheap as possible. Can I park it at the airport without plane tickets? Where else can I park it?

I found a cat outside of my work. Can’t take him, but wondering if there is anyone interested in taking him? I’ve called all shelters around and everyone is at capacity, really trying to find a home for this guy. He’s so sweet, a little timid, but purrs like crazy.

Anyone know of anywhere that will take very gently used mattresses? King & queen? TIA!

I recently got my hands on a rather old book, featuring ads for Toledo area businesses from the early 1960s. I really liked the old car ads. I thought some folks might appreciate these for a trip down memory lane in the Toledo area.

This is going to be a bit of a throwback for those of use who grew up in Toledo in the '90s. 92.5 was the default station for a lot of people in the '90s radio "heyday." Yes, there was a time when Toledo radio actually sounded like major market radio. It was pretty great. Bill Michaels was the night DJ at Kiss FM in the mid to late 90s, many of us might remember that 15-20 minutes when Johnny D ended his show and Bill started his, they would take live calls and give the callers a hard time. It always amazed me how people just kept calling to be put through the gauntlet.
Bill later went on to run the entire Clear Channel (now iHeart) cluster of stations and eventually went on to run Cumulus Toledo. I had the pleasure of working with him in Northern Michigan and then again on our nonprofit Towpath Radio/ Sweet 419 project here in NW Ohio. I don't expect this to resonate with everyone here, but I know there are a few of you who remember this great time in Toledo radio.
Bill passed away over the weekend. He helped a ton of young radio talent build their careers when live radio was still popping.
Hey all,
I (29f) am a real out of the loop adult learner and am attending my first classes at UT online this semester. One of my classes is asking for students to pair up and it got me thinking- how do students "meet up" virtually? I checked the subreddit on here but it doesn't seem active. Is there somewhere else the youths go these days? 😂😅 please help me

So I put my disc golf basket near the street so I dont hit cars. N I went inside for 2 MINUTES n I come out to someone attempting to load my basket up, and when I asked what they were doing, he said he assumed it's scrap. Wonder how many kids lost their bikes to crackheads with this mentality

This local favorite is great for a nice night out. It's popular, so reservations help. This is mostly an adult space, but families come here too. We have ate here for years and love to go for date nights. I love the cheesey bread. Thier happy hour has good prices too.

Hi! I'm looking for recommendations for a Primary Care Doctor for my daughter while she is attending University of Toledo law school. Prefer a female but that's not a deal breaker. She does have a car so she can drive. Thank you for your help!!

Live, work, play, and stay’: Toledo developers unveil Huron Yards Crane Development construction manager and development partner, Julia Randles, and founder, Matthew Rubin, stand outside of The Produce Lofts in downtown Toledo on Aug. 21. Six years ago, Toledo developers Matthew Rubin and Julia Randles began conversations with the Okun family, of the Toledo-based Sam Okun Produce Company, about creating a project that would revitalize the former downtown produce warehouse.
Their concept was a development that could be used for living, working, playing, and staying.
Although their vision didn’t come to fruition in 2019, the family reached back out four years later, and the duo dusted off their old plan.
Now, their concept is coming to life.

Developer announces $10M mixed-use renovation of historic downtown building
On Monday, Mr. Rubin and Ms. Randles, the principals behind Crane Development, are cutting the ribbon to officially kick off their three-phase venture: Huron Yards.
Huron Yards will be the first “all comprehensive, mixed-use development in Toledo,” Ms. Randles said, and it will support their “live, work, play, and stay” concept.
The environment will be bordered within the block of Huron, Erie, Monroe, and Washington streets.
The revitalization of the Okun produce warehouse, at 33 N. Huron St., is Phase 1. The first floor of the Produce Lofts will be divided into two storefronts, with one tenant already lined up. Toledo restaurateur Ed Beczynski will occupy one with a “market-style” grocery store.
“He’s somebody that’s got more downtown retail experience than anyone … Especially with him having that grocery operating experience too and having such a passion for downtown and knowing what it needs, it’s something he’s really excited about too,” Mr. Rubin said.
Mr. Beczynski, owner of the Blarney Irish Pub and Focaccia’s, manages the Market on the Green grocery store in UpTown and was looking to open another store closer to downtown Toledo.
“Living downtown, I know there is a need,” Mr. Beczynski said. “I was looking at locations ... and this space, at about 3,000 square feet, that’s really all you need.”

The restaurateur described the grocery store as “up-scale” and said it will be market-style with prepared foods and grab-and-go meals, while still offering the staples like produce and meat.
“We hope that people will come during their work day and grab a salad, grab a sandwich, maybe sit out in the beer garden at the picnic table, just as an alternative to a traditional sit-down restaurant,” Ms. Randles said.
As the first floor vision unfolds, the apartments on the upper floors are ready for renters. There are 14 apartments, with two already rented as of Thursday afternoon. Of the 14 apartments, four are fully-furnished, short-term housing, and the other 10 are standard, un-furnished units with a yearly lease.
“People who are coming for a game, maybe they’re working at one of our larger employers and are here on assignment, you name it, a traveling nurse. It’s a nice area where they can have a short-term accommodation,” Ms. Randles said.
Mr. Rubin said the Produce Lofts, marketed as “luxury apartments,” start at $1,675 a month and go up to $2,250 a month.
“Whereas the amount of high-income, luxury-type renters has grown, the product has not grown,” Mr. Rubin said. “So we catered to that market for this product.”
The developers received $855,000 of historic tax credits from the state for the project. They also received $75,000 from the city of Toledo through its White Box Planning Grant program.
Throughout the apartments, the developers kept the initial flooring, exposed brick, and original structure.
“You can’t just cover it up or take it away,” Ms. Randles said. “And it just adds so much to the experience when you can look at a window that’s 100 years old.”
The second phase of the project will include the development of a beer garden in the former loading dock next to the produce warehouse. Phase 3 includes the restoration of 28 N. Erie St. where a sports-bar style restaurant will be on the lower level and a co-working space on the upper level.
The developers have begun construction of the beer garden. Ms. Randles said she hopes it will be done by October.
They are going through the permit process for Phase 3. They have requested the necessary permits for the lower level of 28 N. Erie St. where the sports bar concept is planned. They will request permits for the upper level, which is expected to be a co-working space, by mid-September. Ms. Randles said they hope to start construction no later than the end of the year.
