My absolute favourite set. Does anyone know a store where I can guarantee to buy The Hobbit without the gold foil?
I bought The Hobbit off Amazon and it was the updated version without gold foil, but the maps were misprinted and upside down, I returned it and had the same issue on the next copy so it must be a bad batch at Amazon.
The copy in the photo has correctly printed maps, but is the ‘older’ version with the gold foil on the spine. My OCD wants me to be consistent with this set as I absolutely love these versions. It may be hard to tell on the image but all the other covers are painted/drawn on with no foil.
Thank you for any help!

Different Silmarrillion editions
Could anyone tell me the difference between ISBN 9780008669140 (deluxe edition) and ISBN 9780063396197 (collector's edition)? Google isn't being very helpful today...

New Books showed up today!
After 35+ years of enjoying the stories, I finally bought myself Hardcover new copies of “Silmarillion” & “The Hobbit” and even got myself THOME Box Set along with Unfinished Tales. I replaced my LOTR trilogy of books last year, and now it has its companions.

US Hobbit First State
Recently saw a listing on abebooks for a US Hobbit in the first state with a price clipped dust jacket for 24.5K.
Is this asking price accurate or just wishful thinking?
Just curious because I’m potentially in the market for a first state US Hobbit with dust jacket, but there doesn’t seem to be a lot of similar transactions to make a comparison.
Here is the link, it seems like someone may have already bought it though:
Edit - As mentioned in the comments, I meant a first edition, first printing of the US Hobbit.
Thank you for providing some insight into these prices.

History of Middle Earth
I received the box set today. Tomorrow I plan on beginning to read through some of the books but it seems daunting and I’m not sure where to start because it’s not really a beginning to end type of read.
Is there a recommended order to read these books 1 through 12?
My main interests of the history are of Morgoth/Melkor, the rise and fall of Numenor, the 5 wizards (especially the 2 blue ones), and anything about dwarves since information on them seems so scarce.
I also just got “unfinished tales” if someone can point me in the right direction for similar background stories in that book as well.
Thank you for any help.

I picked up these 3 unused paperback copies from a charity shop (£12 in total). I was wondering which edition of 'The Hobbit' would best complement these three, especially the artwork? Any suggestions and/or links would be greatly appreciated.

Picked these up at a book shop
I know older copies are getting harder to come by in the wild as time goes on. Are these three anything special? I'm not expecting money or something like that I just wanted to know from other collectors if there's anything unique about these particular printings.

Rare or Worth Something?
I know little about which book editions are rare or hold value and this seems like the place to ask. Thank you if you’re able to help!

Catch of the day
Not perfect condition for the slipbox but I had been looking for it for quite some time. The books inside are almost perfect. Still feels great !

Does anyone have info on what the matching editions mentioned here are?
For reference, I believe this is the 70th anniversary edition of the hobbit.

Leather book cover?
Hey looking for a leather book cover similar to ones you see on bibles for my hobbit pocket edition. Like the feel and aesthetics of leather. Probably will cost more than my pocket edition 😂, but just like the look.
Could someone recommend one?

Poetry collection quality?
I’ve heard some not-so-great things about the recent HoME release and since I have 3 complete editions (and the 5 from the mass market release), I’m not burning with desire to pick them up.
I’m curious about the poetry box, tho. Is it of just mediocre, cheap manufacture or is it of high quality? Also, I know it’s not worth anything special, but is it difficult to find a 1st/1st? It’s really more about the principle than any monetary value. I’ll have it til I croak then it’s the wife’s problem. 😇.
Thanks.

Which Edition of The Hobbit is the Most Illustrated?
Hi,
My young son just recently saw an illustrated Tolkien encyclopedia I had lying around and was flicking through it and asking me questions, getting more and more fascinated.
I agreed that we could read one of the stories and thought, though it's pretty early to read such a thing, The Hobbit would be great. Only thing is it would be his first non-picture book, so I thought to ease the pain of so many words it would be cool if the edition was as packed full of illustrations as possible.
Any thoughts fellow Tolkien fanatics? Much obliged.
TLDR: Which edition of the hobbit has the most illustrations in it?

Looking for Hardcover Books
Hello,
I'm looking for a quality hardcover, german version of the Lord of the Rings, can you help me finding a good version? I am kinda overwhelmed by all the options. I'd like to have the 3 books seperated. They shall not have a loose paper cover on top, just the hardcover.
Best would be if there is The Hobbit and Silmarillion in the same look/style, but not a must.
Same goes for illustration: Is it such a better experience? I'm indecisive if I need/want it.
Price for the 3 books should be around 100-200 Euro.
Any help or advice is appreciated :) xo

hobbit book
Hello, I have this edition of The Hobbit from 2008; Minotaur publishing house. Illustrated by Alan Lee. Could someone guide me on what the approximate value of the book is if I sell it second-hand? Thank you!

Unfinished Tales trade illustrated - my video comparison of 5th and 6th impressions
Tolkien Unfinished Tales illustrated (HarperCollins) comparison of 5th and 6th impressions The 5th impression (Dubai) commonly sold in high street bookstores has a really stiff binding which makes it impossible for the pages to stay open. The 6th printing (India) by comparison has a super flexible binding which allows the pages to lay flat. The paper quality also appears to be better on the 6th impression.
