I’m looking to get into a recreational sport and was wondering if there are any options outside of the recreational league. I know there’s a chat for soccer, but are there any other groups, clubs, or activities I could join?

I’d love to hear about any opportunities out there! Things like volleyball or basketball, etc.

I am interested in taking Data 310 (Regression) and Data 311 (ML) this fall for DS minor. Only stats course I took has been Stat 230 with Spectrum (for which had to study hard for it but did ok overall.)

Can ppl who have taken the above two courses (ideally in the past two years) share their experience:

• Is content/material difficult to understand and requires extra-hard work?
• Are mid-terms and/or finals difficult/easy and different from content/material assignments and labs?
  • Is the level of proficiency/experience required for R high in these two courses? FYI: I had to self-learn R for previous project (1-2 years ago) but have totally forgotten it.. :(
• How did you find instructors to be?

Basically, i know it's embarrassing but I was academically withdrawn before summer. LUCKILY, I appealed it and it was accepted. So i won't get the 12 month suspension.

Although it's still caused problems, obviously it's still listed as an academic withdrawl on my record, which may cause issues in the future. But more immediately it's caused issues, I did a summer term to make up credits but, during that whole time I couldn't select classes for the winter term. I thought they just weren't released but it was released in July, only recently did I get access to it. I assume this was due to my academic withdrawal.

Anyone else have experience with this, maybe even from people who didn't get the appeal?

What are you guys’ thoughts on jump start so far? For me it could’ve been great if the people from my group and major (shall not be named) could’ve been less antisocial LOL. Most of them would REFUSE to talk to each other. Like what’s the point of paying for and joining jump start if you don’t want to talk like tf.

I'm a nontraditional (see also: old) student considering moving from the midwest in America to Kelowna. I've had a successful career as an allied health professional but want to pursue my passion of writing. And, to be totally honest, would like to live somewhere less...orange 👀 SO anyway, I have an AS in Human Services with a chemical dependency certification, almost none of my completed classes pertain to writing and am assuming this will be a totally fresh start with minimal credits transferring. I just want some feedback on the creative writing BA (minor in philosophy or sociology) and what life in Kelowna is like. My spouse and I: childfree, two cats, outdoorsy, active, readers, not big drinkers, like to eat (have been called hipsters before and idk I guess the shoe fits). We have a good income, with his unchanging if we move (remote work) and hopefully my more modest contribution can be replaced in a part-time hospitality gig or something while in school at UBCO. We've never been to the area, just have read and watched a lot of stuff. I also wonder what's the mood towards Americans (respectfully, I understand any misgivings). I'm preparing everything to apply on Oct. 1 for Fall 2026 starting semester so again, anybody willing to drop some real (not sugar-coated) intel here would be appreciated. Thanks

I currently have a laptop with a good CPU but only has an integrated graphics. (Iris XE)

From what I've read so far my laptop might be a struggle. However I don't think I can afford a laptop with a GPU that's super strong. whats the cheapest way to get a GPU that's good enough? Also do I need it to be a laptop with a good gpu or is a PC in my dorm enough?

Is a Iris XE (relatively new one) enough for year 1 or should I just buy a new laptop.

You don’t have to be an environmental chemistry major to join, it’s open to everyone and completely free. In the past they’ve put on study nights, industry nights where they bring in people from different industries to speak on what you can do after your degree, team ups with the chemistry course union and the earth and environmental science course union, we’ve also done 19+ events at local wineries!

This is my first year in ubco and I was wondering what type of laptop will do the job for engineering I heard MacBooks were a no go so any recommendations?

For anyone that applied for this winter session, have you heard back for TA positions?

I’ve heard that obco has much less sport programs than the Vancouver campus is this true? Is there any sort of wrestling or bjj on campus????
