Coterminous grant thread

Currently filling out my grant for my coterminous tickets. I study abroad for up to three months at a time in Europe. I’m currently entering my final year. During the application you are asked if you have lived outside of the U.K. for more than six months. What would be advisable to write there? I am also a member of a HO approved gun club that takes long range shooting very seriously. I am an avid shooter and have a lot of experience abroad shooting a wide variety of firearms and calibres. and will be applying for a 300 Win mag - Long to ultra long distance target shooting with hunting in Europe. 223 straight pull - low to mid range shooting with practical elements 7.62x54r - mid to long range target shooting. (Mosin of course) 22lr or even 22 mag semi auto in any platform again for target shooting and practical mini rifle. (Yes I know large ammo price discrepancy between the two). 45-70 lever action for cowboy action target shooting and for hunting in Europe. 12g over under for clays and grouse/pheasant Also any suggestions for acceptable ammo quantities would be appreciated. Ammo price isn’t really an issue. I do shoot often.

Applying for a moderator to accompany all rifles. I will be reloading for all of these calibres bar the 22. Just looking for some general advice here, tips and pointers really.

Thank you.

Where are the Left Handed Mirokus?

I've been looking around the secondhand market for my first shotgun (assuming I'm granted my cert)

Been left-eyed I'm looking at the left handed options available.

Looking at the big three; It seems there's quite a few 525 and Silver Pigeon availible in Lefty. But no MK-38 that I can find. Are they neutral? or just not liked by the left handed shooters?

Gun license referee

I’ve just applied for a shotgun license and got two good friends to be my referees. I was just wondering what they can expect. Will they be phoned by police, visited by police, sent a letter or nothing? If so what kind of things will they be asked and is it much of a burden to them. I have of course sent them the guidance info about referees but it doesn’t really clarify what they will be asked and what there duties are. Anyway if anyone could help I’d really appreciate it. Thank you

Brass shotgun cartridges in the UK

How much interest is there in brass shotgun cartridges in the UK? You don’t really see them so I was wondering if people actually use them much. Are they something shooters would buy if they were easier to get hold of, or is it really just a niche thing for collectors and a few enthusiasts?

I’ve got a relative who makes them in a range of bores, mainly for his own use, but I’m interested to know if there’s wider demand out there.

Best first gun

Hi everyone I’ve just turned 18 I currently live in Northern Ireland I was just wondering what would be a best first gun. My dad said he’d get me my first I just have to choose it. I was thinking for either a bolt action hunting rifle or lever action. I want to use it for marksmanship training and maybe even some competitions. Would I be able to bring it to the UK mainland too for when I’m at university next year

How hard is it to get a license in the uk as a foreigner?

I love clay shooting but clay shooting ranges only allow you to shoot without a license if done as a lesson.

The lessons are proving abit too expensive tbh but I really enjoy it. I’m hoping to rent a shotgun from the grounds not actually buy my own (yet).

Based in York if that changes anything.

GP Medical Pro-forma prices

Applying for my first SGL to North Yorkshire police. The doctors just told me it would be 135 pounds for the form to be completed. blimey. I think of all the posts I've read on here that's the most expensive I've seen!

Air gun license Scotland

Im looking at getting into varmint hunting in Scotland however I’m unsure on what I should be doing when applying.

I know when applying they ask reason etc the issue is I don’t own land and would be asking local farmers etc to hunt on there land when applying would I need to get permission first and mention the farm/farmer in my application or can I just put my reason as varmint hunting and once I have acquired my license and rifle then ask.

It would also include plinking in my back door

Upsizing safe question

When my FEO visited, they noted that I had a 3-gun cabinet.

If I decide to upgrade to a larger safe and then apply for a 4th gun, will there be any issues since my current security setup was recorded as a 3-gun cabinet?

Do I need to let the FEO know about the cabinet change before applying?

FAC wait

Out of curiosity, if you’re going to get denied FAC, is that after the interview? Or is there a possibility it could get denied even before that?

First time FAC odd situation

Hi all,

I applied, along with my friend, for a first time grant FAC in early February this year. The application was literally two days apart. I haven't heard anything at all but my friend got a phone call in late June and they issued his licence end of July. We live in the same postcode and are under the MET police

Any ideas if this is worth chasing them or why it may be?

Many thanks

FAC obtaining when already holding an SGC

Just wondered if anyone would know. I'm currently an SGC holder and looking to get into FAC, are the waiting times shorter when applying for a coterminous rather than starting from scratch? Thanks.

Working smith mags 😎

I’ve been experimenting recently with my own home made magazines as getting stock ones seems to be getting increasingly hard!
Have been able to make some that now work better than the stock ones - much nicer fit in the magwell. Getting the depth for the mag release catch has taken a bit of fettling but think I’ve got it now! The ‘punisher’ mag gets a few smiles at the club now !

Any recent experience with Suffolk Police for new FAC?

As the title says. Recently submitted my FAC, just looking to see if anyone has recently (or otherwise) dealt with them, wondering whether I've got a 2 month, 6, or 12 month wait ahead.

I wasn't able to glean much in the way of specifics from the recent BASC report where it concerns new applications specifically, as the report doesn't break down the timings between application types.

I plan on purchasing a Mossberg 590 and have noticed the bolt comes in silver finish, can I coat it black easily or buy a black one, if so where?

I have a question

Well I don't even live in the UK but I'm obsessed with international gun laws and I have a question, can I apply for FAC with the "good reason" being for target shooting but without being part of a shooting club? If not its even possible to apply for a FAC without being part of a club?

Bit of advice - first time application FAC / Shotgun cert

Hi guys,

This is my first time applying for a shotgun certificate so apologies if these are noddy questions - have tried to find some of the answers online but seems inconclusive:

A) Is there any tangible benefit to applying for the FAC at the same time?

B) I'm not 100% sure I want to buy a shotgun yet- my main reason for applying is because I want to go clay shooting without constantly needing to fork out for an instructor (would rent the shotgun). I live in a new-build flat and can't really find an appropriate place to secure a cabinet - I wasn't sure if that was a requirement to get the cert regardless of whether I own a shotgun or not.

I don't have any adverse medical history etc so not anticipating any issues - ex-military so I've handled firearms before. Any help on navigating the process would be much appreciated.

Cheers!

Gun Cabinet Installation - New-Build (Rented) Flat

I live in a rented flat (so cannot damage the walls/floor) and it's also a new-build (so the walls are made of plasterboard/nothing substantial).

I am wondering how I would install a gun cabinet in a way that is (1) compliant with the legislation and (2) FEO approved.

Has anyone seen any solutions to this problem? Are there other ways of immobilising a cabinet besides anchoring it to a wall? Anything clever I haven't thought of?

Is Google censoring search results?

So I've been looking for a Barra 250z and subsequently found out it's also the Snowpeak M30c as a result of asking around. The air tank is effectively the shroud around the barrel resulting in a bull barrel and no horrible chunky tank to spoil its looks (personal bugbear of current pcp rifles).

As you'll see by the images the first is a Google search set on "All" of which there are several businesses to buy from, but, if I want to draw all the comparisons together under the "Shopping" tab on my browser (Opera mobile) - suddenly Google has gone blind and stupid and "cannot find any matches".

Anyone else find that?

13 and needing advice

Hello everyone! I am a 13 (turning 14 in october) year old boy and im just wondering what the application process for an SGC is like, a couple months back went clay pigeon shooting and absolutely loved it! Ive always had an interest in firearms. Then, a couple months after that I went rifle shooting too, i shot a couple .22 rifles and had overall a fun time. Due to these experiences, ive recently been researching possibly applying for an SGC when I am older. I have a question however.

I have high functioning autism, would this effect chances of me getting one? I am not mentally disabled and would not consider myself violent, however I know alot of people sometimes think of autistic gun owners as wanna be school shooters, so im just worried that the firearms officer might think of me in the same way.

Thanks for reading, cheers!
