Nothing beats the opening on 2! Playing that for the first time on release day was insane!

26

u/dubiousdub93 Jul 25 '25

Oh absolutely, the opening on 2 is one of the best openings in gaming period.

8

u/The_Real_Page153 Uncharted 2 is Best Jul 25 '25

It’s so awesome. I wished I could have played it on launch (but I was a baby then lol

u/lbclofy Jul 25 '25

Its the exact opposite for me, U4 has better gameplay, but it squanders it on its pacing. U2 is just executed so much better, its storytelling is flawless and it's set pieces and locations were just a little bit better. Also I personally think U2s final boss battle is the best of all 4.

21

u/kaetce Jul 25 '25

I think 4 is a perfect example of taking 2 and perfecting it in every aspecr

4

u/lbclofy Jul 25 '25 edited Jul 25 '25

Lets be real, in 4 the flashbacks to Nates childhood are pretty boring, and Libertalia is given too much time. It loses most of its wonder by the time you reach the final act. Having just replayed them all, there isnt a single section I'd cut from 2. Also side note why am I doing two escape sections from the same prison in the same game, its' not like the escape with Sam adds anything meanful to the gameplay.

31

u/CookieDoughThough Jul 25 '25 edited Jul 25 '25

the escape with sam is essential for the twist to work. Its genius to have you play through a lie

10

u/kaetce Jul 25 '25

I like everything about 4. It’s my second favorite game of all time so I’m not gonna agree lol but to each their own

2

u/The_Real_Page153 Uncharted 2 is Best Jul 25 '25

I thought it was interesting that they show Nate die in the flashbacks, unlike Uncharted 3.

1

u/Helpful_Long_3290 Jul 25 '25

What do you mean by that? I'm struggling to understand that sentence...

2

u/The_Real_Page153 Uncharted 2 is Best Jul 25 '25

In Uncharted 3, if you die as Nate, the camera pans up to not show his death. In Uncharted 4, it doesn’t do that.

2

u/The810kid Jul 26 '25

The first 7 or so chapters of Uncharted 4 are all pretty slow on replay and so is the Brothers Drake chapter.

1

u/lbclofy Jul 26 '25

I 100% agree here, I play Uncharted to do Uncharted things! I felt like I could have been playing a different game to starting off.

1

u/Valuable_Ad9554 Jul 26 '25

I would definitely cut / change the later part of 2, all the Shambala stuff I find to be a big scar on an otherwise mostly flawless game

1

u/lbclofy Aug 05 '25

Curious. Why?

1

u/Beginning_Whole_9494 Jul 25 '25

I know what you mean. Like they improved everything but the pacing is a slog. 100 percent agree. I played all other Uncharted games a few times over and the 4th is one I haven’t re touched. (Was fantastic first go around tho 👍)

2

u/The810kid Jul 26 '25

Yeah Uncharted 4 from start to finish has alot of chapters that don't hold up well on repeated playthroughs because they are so cinematic to advance the story like Drakes home life and what he currently is up to.

2

u/AppropriateIssue4607 Jul 26 '25

That’s my biggest issue with 4, the replay value. The story aspect doesn’t hit the same the more you experience it. Also agree being in Libertaria too long lessens the experience. It loses the wow factor that you always get in 2 and 3.

1

u/rxz1999 Jul 25 '25

Uncharted 2 forest area which has you planting the c4 is awful and the worst level ever.. it feels cheap amd out of place like they let interns make a single level

2

u/ThePearWithoutaCare Jul 25 '25

Borneo? It’s one of my favourite chapters in the game. Introduces you to guns and combat. And you get to traverse a rainforest.

36

u/Fine_Sir_3641 Jul 25 '25

IMO 4 is easily the better game overall and is my favourite game ever made, but taking into consideration what they achieved relative to where gaming was at the time and the influence the game had, I can see how 2 could be considered "greater".

6

u/CaliggyJack Jul 25 '25

I prefer U3

4

u/Ok-Sweet-3501 Jul 25 '25

3 and 4 is my favourite but 3 is my overall favourite

1

u/Pitiful_Feature_4726 Jul 29 '25

Three story confusing me eg if the djin was real what was in the jar they never answer that

4

u/Helpful_Long_3290 Jul 25 '25

Me: There is another. (Gazes at Uncharted 3) Shut up guys, I know the story is a bit weaker on that one but it is still my absolute favorite.

18

u/Appropriate_Tax_4457 Jul 25 '25

Yea but I prefer Uncharted 3 over any game

10

u/Express-ballsnfart Jul 25 '25

I don’t like uncharted 3 as much as the other games, there was a certain punch that 1 and 2 had. U3 had a different feel to everything, also wasn’t a fan of Talbot and cutter is a bit annoying. I still

7

u/Shadowkiva Jul 25 '25

Same it was my intro to the ps3 and to the Uncharted franchise.. I went back to finish all the others and ended with Lost Legacy but nothing has stuck with me quite like the cargo plane escape and the desert march.

3

u/Appropriate_Tax_4457 Jul 25 '25

My intro was uncharted 1 it was my first video game ever but uncharted 3 was so grand and epic truly unforgettable

1

u/Chromatischism Jul 26 '25

I agree those were awesome scenes, the peak of the game, IMO. But other areas just did not have that level of polish and purpose. For one example, I'd remove the entire Yemen pirate area where you're jumping around from ship to ship.

1

u/Shadowkiva Jul 26 '25

I loved the pirate section and capsizing boat too. Some of the gunplay and awkward positioning was off sure... but I have the same complaint for the back half of A Thief's End

8

u/delta1inc Jul 25 '25

Nah, Uncharted 2 > 4 then Lost Legacy legacy then Uncharted 4. I like my swashbuckling adventure with light humor and U4 was just too dramatic for my liking. As a final adventure it works but for the overall franchise, U2 is peak.

1

u/Prize-Sea-9651 Jul 26 '25

Tf you mean nah? “I like this”

1

u/delta1inc Jul 26 '25

I said what I said. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

7

u/Ladsboss1213 Jul 25 '25

Graphics don’t always make a better game …. Uncharted 2 is a literal masterpiece Uncharted 4 is just the super pretty younger sister .

2

u/dubiousdub93 Jul 26 '25

Not really about graphics for me, they are both amazing but I think 4 is a masterpiece because of its story and that it introduced a completely new character who is now pretty iconic. I also like the more Down to earth story with no supernatural creatures and imo rafe Is a more charismatic and hateable villain than lazarevic. 2 is a 9/10, 4 is a 9.5/10.

1

u/Honest-Shock2834 Jul 29 '25

I agree, 4 is my favorite for how the story hits, and how it is as engaging as the others without any supernatural stuff.

1

u/noelioli Jul 25 '25

I do kind of feel like a lot of the love for Uncharted 4 comes from the visuals and it just “doing more”. It has impeccable presentation and a much more coherent story that is “doing more” so to speak but I don’t think it’s nearly as good of an actual game as 2

2

u/TearClean1268 Jul 25 '25

Both will always be special to me and take up a space in my gamer heart reserved for them, for very different reasons.

Uncharted 2 - Groundbreaking. Generation defining game. A sequel that truly improved upon virtually everything you can basically improve upon. What this game did on PS3 hardware was without question “revolutionary” as nobody in the industry had seen or done anything such as what ND had done with this sequel, not from a graphics standpoint or pure gameplay features level design standpoint with its jaw dropping set pieces. When they showed the building collapse gameplay footage at E3 gamers and journalists were left with jaws dropped. It was simply otherworldly. How was this possible? Fighting inside of a building that’s collapsing, you’re taking out enemies etc. pretty remarkable stuff at the time, let alone the famous train sequence where you fight as the “derailed” haha, makes its way up to the Himalayas… Uncharted 2 really, it cannot be understated what this game did for the industry/gaming as a whole and how it put ND up there/just like Last of Us would do 4 years later, adding more pressure to them as a renowned and hugely respected “best in the world” studio. UNC2 really is a benchmark and was at the time and do so much for gaming that games now can’t catch up to this game’s impressive set pieces that’ll be 16 years old.

Uncharted 4 - A beautiful send off for the series. It didn’t try to BE “Uncharted 2” again, we already experienced that. It did its own thing, did it remarkably well. Looked stunning/still does. Almost 10 years later feels modern, has animations that are top tier and are remarkable. And, the storytelling, characters and action is still bombastic as before, just more grounded (still Uncharted at its core, Nate’s still clumsy and lovable as ever) and it really has a special feel all it’s own that cements it in the hearts of many gamers as their personal favorite in the series. Uncharted 4 will always have the edge over 2 in the end for me. It continues the globetrotting story/adventures of Nathan Drake in a more down to earth way, presenting the narrative, its characters, their situations and circumstances to be carry a lot more meaning, weight, consequences etc. Much more at stake to lose. The writing and performances is the best in the series and really helps showcase these characters at their best and send them off in their last adventure where every moment is treasured every step of the way, and that is shown throughout the course of the game.

3

u/Choice-Bus-1177 Jul 25 '25

Nothing beats the set pieces in 3 for me.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 25 '25

I think uncharted 2 has more memorable sequences like the train and the town in Nepal, but uncharted 4 is a more consistent experience. It also doesn’t fumble the ending with a stupid super natural twist.

1

u/rockdragonrock Jul 25 '25

Consistent in what aspect? If 2 was more memorable

1

u/[deleted] Jul 25 '25 edited Jul 25 '25

Consistently fun from chapter to chapter, obviously. 2 chapters being memorable and the rest forgettable (or cringey in the case of the super natural final battle) is the opposite of that. People remember Uncharted 2 for its high points. Not the low points.

2

u/Ok_Emergency_916 Jul 25 '25

Uncharted 2 > Uncharted 3 > Uncharted 4 > Uncharted 1

2

u/thatguywiththeposts Jul 25 '25

I honestly have a hard time going back to the trilogy after playing 4. They're still good games, but boy do they feel weird to go back to.

3

u/HellbornSamurai Jul 25 '25

Me who likes uncharted 1 more

2

u/Cthulhujack Jul 25 '25

My only real issue with 4 is the lack of a fantastical mcguffin :/ other than that it's the best in the series. I'd agree that it's down to 2 or 4 tho, lol

4

u/That_Switch_1300 Jul 25 '25

Couldn’t agree more, fellow U4 lover 🫡

1

u/CookieDoughThough Jul 25 '25

Its funny to see discussions about whether the Henig or Druckmann game is better, while Im over here thinking the best uncharted has neither involved

1

u/RockRik Jul 25 '25

I find it very hard to believe that it was somehow made in less than 18 months after most of the original script was gone but honestly its probably the highest of quality in the entire series even if it made less including a whole unknown brother for Nathan.

1

u/SnooOwls4559 Jul 25 '25

As soon as Nate started playing with his toy guy, taking cover, with intense music playing in the background, and reminiscing over memories in the attic in his home, I knew it was peak.

1

u/doubleb_43 Jul 25 '25

I love both but I prefer the setting of U2

1

u/Ragnarok_MS Jul 25 '25

Love both of them. 2 slightly edges ahead of 4 for me, but just barely.

1

u/InfectedEllie Jul 25 '25

I’d love them to remake the trilogy. Hopefully that’s what blue point are working on

1

u/Antique_Money_5601 Jul 25 '25

agreed. 2 has some really fun moments but 4 is just amazing. also like the fact that it's more grounded

1

u/adverz Jul 25 '25

If 2 had the gameplay of 4 then 2 would be peak

1

u/roygbiv77 Jul 25 '25

Uncharted 2 is so good dude. I hate the prologue spoiler of the train crash, but other than that it's one of the greatest games of its era.

1

u/Superb_Curve Jul 25 '25

Uncharted 4 is a good game but in my opinion it doesn't have that signature Uncharted feel.

1

u/aligameover Jul 25 '25

Uncharted 2 is funnier

1

u/Serosh5843 Jul 25 '25

I like them all equally but my God U4 is one of the most gorgeous games I've ever played and had way more enjoyment just walking and slow driving taking in all the nature and details than I did with the gameplay. Blows my mind that's almost a 10 year old game and it still looks better than most games that come out nowadays.

1

u/The_Real_Page153 Uncharted 2 is Best Jul 25 '25

It’s the reverse for me, since Uncharted 4 has better gameplay, but I prefer Uncharted 2.

1

u/JustHereForFood99 Jul 25 '25

I'm my opinion, they're tied for first.

1

u/Reallyroundthefamily Jul 25 '25

Uncharted 2 for me. Just the perfect action game. Perfect pacing, perfect story, perfect everything. It just felt like you were playing the best action movie.

4 had jawdroppingly great graphics, great story, but weak pacing in parts. Too much boring climbing in certain chapters for instance. And lazier setups for combat in my opinion although it's been a while since I've played it. Too many situations where the developers just threw 75 enemies in a room or area with a bunch of snipers and you just have to kill them all.

The last time I played Uncharted 4 I really had to push myself to finish it. I've played two so many times I can't even count. It never bores me and it's perfect. The perfect comfort game for me.

1

u/Connect-Life9387 Jul 25 '25

Uncharted 4 sweeps uncharted 2 in almost every way, the only thing u can make an argument abt is the combat but thats just cause u4 has less than u2

1

u/Grimrock Jul 25 '25

Los que conocieron la saga Uncharted en PS4: "unCHartd 4 eS mEjOr"

1

u/RedBoss228 Jul 26 '25

I'll always love Uncharted 2 the most, I consider it the magnan opus of the PS3. It's just such an iconic game, it was a huge leap forward from the first game, everything about this game is amazing.

1

u/nicolaslabra Jul 26 '25

I know u2 is the fan favourite but 4 is objectively the best, best gameplay, really good character work, sucessfuly lands a more mature tone.

That all being said i have a soft spot for 3, i just like the middle eastern setting.

1

u/drinkchips Jul 26 '25

Thank you

1

u/tokiyaensui Jul 26 '25

No accounting for taste.

1

u/Still-Asparagus-6391 Jul 26 '25 edited Jul 26 '25

U4 is great but U2 is perfect From start to finish, it has unforgettable things, the chase in Nepal, the trucks, the train, etc. is a masterpiece

1

u/KingChris8909 Jul 26 '25

lol uncharted 3

1

u/zerotaboo Jul 26 '25

It is the opposite in my opinion.

Uncharted 4 lost the magic shown in 1, 2 and 3

1

u/BlacksmithRough5561 Jul 26 '25

Let's be real both the games had it flaws but they were the two best games of all time

1

u/Active_Whereas_4135 Jul 26 '25

Yeah, I really can’t agree. There’s no sci-fi enemy type like the Nazi Zombies (U1), the Yetis (U2) or the Djinn (U3). Everyone says “goddamn” instead of just Sully, which really subtracts from his character. In the end, they straight up copied the Goonies with the treasure in the pirate ship inside a cave. And the BBEG was some spoiled rich egotistical child. They even had to cancel the DLC that tens of thousands of people preordered. Uncharted 4 wasn’t peak. I wouldn’t even call it an Uncharted game. Lost Legacies was better. Like, significantly better.

1

u/RJRavenger Jul 26 '25

Uncharted 4 had probably the best gameplay... But in my opinion... Had the worst story... The pacing was too slow and druckman tried to put in too much drama, he made Nate such a jerk to Elena just for the sake of drama... And totally broke that hint fantasy that the saga always had...

1

u/-Flayer- Jul 27 '25

Personal favourite is 3.

But objectively 4 is the best in the series

1

u/n_primeau2 Jul 27 '25

4 is a better game but nothing will beat playing 2 for the first time. Might be my favorite first playthrough of a game ever

1

u/mrderpflerp Jul 27 '25

U4 is in a league of its own. Absolute Masterpiece.

1

u/Calakapepe Jul 27 '25

Uncharted 2 during its heyday versus uncharted 4 in its heyday though? Thats. Tighter race. I personally gotta hand it to uncharted 2 when in context of its release year... but to this day, Ill have to say #4 is a better experience overall

1

u/DiscreteFame Jul 27 '25

Now reverse it honestly.

1

u/kr8os9 Jul 27 '25

I love both the games bit while replaying them I have more fun with Uncharted 2, the 4th one has way too many look around at the pretty scenery which has nothing going on.

I had so much fun playing 2 on crushing difficulty, but still unlocking crushing mode in 4.

1

u/Small-Asparagus-9984 Jul 28 '25

I played them all in sequence, I had never seen game play before, to this day I don't know which I prefer, 2 or 4. The curve of 1 and 2 is insane, you can see the evolution of the game, while 4 needs no comments. So to this day I put them both on the same shelf.

1

u/Strange-Ad7468 Jul 28 '25

I only didn't enjoy the beginning part of uncharted 4...after that, it was a blast

1

u/Carmy2 Jul 29 '25

Game play is better in 4, but I just think 2 has a better story and better locations. I love 4 but it’s a bit too slow at certain points.

1

u/BumblebeeStrange2 Jul 30 '25

Unpopular opinion I think uncharted 2 is the worst out of all four of them

1

u/Dave_Kun Aug 10 '25

I just didn’t like the “oh hey it’s your older brother you never talked about” part of the story. I could never care or trust anything about Sam.

1

u/kaetce Jul 25 '25

Agreed

0

u/throwaway420682022 Jul 25 '25

4 does clear everything else but 2 still shits all over Uncharmid 3

6

u/rockdragonrock Jul 25 '25

Uncharted 3 has the best action and set pieces so >>>>4

-1

u/Temporary-Shower4314 Jul 25 '25

I loved uncharted 4 but Nadine is easily the worst thing if the series. Naughty dogs just love shoving women power down your throat lol.

1

u/carl74x Jul 27 '25

I'm sure even Nolan North had a problem with nate getting whooped by her lol especially after everything he's done

0

u/FireTyphoon123 Jul 25 '25 edited Jul 26 '25

Uncharted 4 is easily the peak of the franchise and one of the best video games ever made. Also i love pirates (AC4 Black Flag is one of my favorite games of all time) so a game about hunting long lost pirate treasure is like a dream to me lol

-3

u/[deleted] Jul 25 '25

I've only played uc4 and yes it is peak

0

u/NetleyRHM Jul 25 '25

My hot take is that 2 is incredibly overrated. Excellent, don’t get me wrong, but overrated. I prefer 3 and 4

0

u/7naif Jul 25 '25

No they all are peak imo

0

u/wilhelmkidxx Jul 25 '25

Yeah, no dude. UC2 is hands down the best of the series. Gameplay improved with 4, but story-wise, 2 is the best they did.

0

u/BubblyNefariousness4 Jul 25 '25

Uncharted 1 is peak. Uncharted 4 is drawn out drivel

-1

u/Icethief188 Jul 25 '25

It is. Its the best
