Free Vail Parking
A way to act responsibly and enjoy (drinks in) Vail while reduce the burden of the unreasonable overnight parking fee is obtaining an exit card by exiting the parking structures before 11am the next day and seeing the gate attendant.
(While this also says you can see a police officer, the parking attendant didn’t seem to be familiar with this part of the rule (and we didn’t find one police officer)).
I was looking for this info (on the internet/reddit) before I arrived to Vail for the first time, but couldn’t find it - so figured I’d post to be helpful. We discovered this after leaving the public parking garage at 12pm and they weren’t able to honor it.
Happy hiking!

Restaurant Recs
Just looking for the latest views on restaurant recs. I will be staying in Vail for 4 days in late September. We typically like sushi, steak / American fare, Italian, and Mexican. Budget is flexible.
Based on my own searching, let me know any views on the following:
Matsuhisa (looks like there is also Makoto and Osaki)
Sweet basil
Russels
Left Bank
La Nonna
Tavernetta
El Segundo
Are any of these absolute must go / avoid at all costs? Also anything I missed / casual lunch recs would be greatly appreciated as well.

Is $25/hr livable in Vail?
Offered a job at $25/hr. Is this a livable wage? I hear the cost of living is crazy

Spa for bachelorette parties
Any recommendations on spas that offer packages for bachelorette parties? Looking for one with a whirlpool and relaxation lounge for the afternoon. The Exhale Spa at Beaver Creek Hyatt offers free service for the bride, but just wanted to see if there are any similar options out there! Either in Breckenridge, Beaver Creek, Vail, Dillon, etc. Thanks!

Can I live in Vail without a car
I am trying to get a job at one of the resorts in Vail but am a little hesitant. I currently live in San Francisco so no car no problem but I know some places cars are basically required.
So realistically, how hard would it be to get around via walking & biking?

housing for part timers at vail resorts
hey all, i just received an offer for a part-time seasonal position at keystone. i know getting into employee housing is unlikely since full-timers have priority, so realistically what would my best option be? should i look on facebook/craigslist or just reapply for a full-time position?
bonus question: how lenient is vail on letting you choose a start date? i finish my last semester of college in december so i can only start in mid/late december
thanks in advance for any answers :-)
Does new 50% SWAF tix diminish instructor perks?
One of the perks offered to Vail ski instructors is four (or more depending on seniority) 50% off coupons that they can give to friends. With the new 50% off for 5 SWAF tickets attached to all season passes, this would appear to diminish the value of one of the perks of being an instructor. Will Vail adjust the instructor perk to compensate?

Easy/moderate hikes for this weekend
Husband and I are new to hiking, but we've managed some moderate trails in the Denver/Boulder area. His knee can be problematic, so the easy option to turn around if it starts bothering him would be great. We will have a car and would be happy to drive a bit for a great, easy hike.
We don't mind a busier trail, but would love the chance to see some waterfalls and/or some wildlife.

Did anyone else find Vail, CO underwhelming?
Went there in August of 2025 for two nights and I was not impressed. The views and hiking were amazing. The food was mediocre. The cleanliness was bad. The shopping not really what I anticipated. I thought it would be more high end. Other than the experience of the ski season what did I miss?
How is the smoke in and around Vail right now?
Will be up end of next week and wondering if depending on the winds if Vail is getting a lot of the fire from the Lee fire and other smaller fires around the area.

Biking up Vail Mtn question
Hello! I live in Boulder and used to hike a ton, but due to an ankle injury I have been biking more. I bike a lot in Boulder- usually 15 miles/1500' gain 5 days a week, so nothing too crazy, but it's a good cardio workout. I am going to Vail next month and was thinking of trying to bike up Vail Mtn via the service road. I called the Vail info hotline and asked how far the service road up was and they didn't know! Does anyone know the distance and elevation gain? I used to do Berrypicker a lot and that was 2200' or so, so I think it would be around that elevation. If it gets too intense, I could walk the bike a bit. Is this something that a lot of people do?
I would take the gondola down.

Parking structure inverted fee "loophole" (Beware!)
So, I park at 2:06 pm this past Saturday on the top level of the main parking structure that's a few blocks to the west of the Ford Amphitheater. I was going to the concert that evening, but was walking around the area and realized at a little after 5pm that their system might not calculate things the way I had originally assumed: first hour free, the after 3 it's free until 4am. I recalled reading language to the effect of "entering" after 3 is free until 4am. Sure enough, the person at the collection booth confirmed it's the latter and I was being charged until I reached $10 at $2/hr. So, I had to pay $4.
It's hardly the end of the world, and the language is "correct", but it's just one of those things where it's an easy thing to misinterpret and they have to know this.
It's actually priced very reasonably as it is, why not just spell it out a little better for those of us who aren't always with it?

vail dining thread summer 2025
Interested in updated views out there on the “go to” spots and any new stuff. With Fall Line gone and Red Lion soon to follow, options in the village proper will decline. To kick it off:
Slope Room - been great last few times I’ve been here, very consistent.
Mountain Standard - I hate to say it because I want them to be great, but feels like it has slipped a bit. Service not as good, and portion sizes have declined a lot.
Yama - has anyone been recently?
Root & Flower - Food seems to just get better, and cocktails always amazing.
Makoto - the Japanese place at the Hyatt in cascade village. Has anyone been? The menu looks soooo expensive for a Hyatt-based spot but maybe worth it?
El Segundo - food and beverage always good, but we ate there last week and the cleanliness (or lack thereof) was appalling. Obv they got constant traffic, but there is so much food on the floor two different people slipped on it.
La Bottega - can’t decide if this place is good or not. It is priced like it is, the patio is awesome, and the Vail Mexico contingent obviously loves it, but we had such a blah pasta experience there last week I’m not sure I need to go back.
Others? What’s been great recently?
Edit - oh and what about the New Mexican place in west vail by Joy Sushi (which I think is pretty decent for strip mall sushi fwiw) - anyone been?

Bike storage
Passing through tomorrow and would like to check out the farmers market. Feeling skeptical leaving my two bikes attached to my vehicle. Are there any secure places/bike shops that would lock up or hold some bikes for a few hours? Thank you!
