News & Alerts Violence at the market

I was just at the market and noticed a bunch of people running with blood gushing out of their heads and necks. Does anyone know what occurred?

Thank you for posting this. This is what I what saw as well. Crazy that so many in the comments were calling me a liar or a bot.

Because there's a massive wave of far right propaganda linking any type of violence to how brown people are going to destroy our country because of a super hardcore communist conspiracy to destroy and replace white people. Maybe people thought you were trying to make a subtle approach to that.

I just saw it on twitter. I don't know why people are downvoting you.

Funny. Mercado Central doesn't open on a Sunday.

I am surprised, it is really rare for violence to happen here. Interested to know what happened and I hope everyone is alright.

I live nearby, after seeing this post I went to verify, saw no evidence of anything having happened 1.5hrs ago. (no crowds, no national police, nobody freaking out, just people enjoying their afternoon). I did see a local police patrol car with two officers outside but nothing out of the ordinary.

I'll be alert to the news but I'd take this report with a grain of salt meanwhile.

Some British guys jumped off a balcony above the market

There were a few of the market vendors who looked like they had been stabbed or cut with knives or sharp objects.

I also noticed a family with strollers and the dad also had been cut and was bleeding very badly.

One of the shop keepers came out with a wooden chair looking for the perpetrators.

But the market is closed on Sundays. What are you referring to?

It happened outside the market.

Sounds like someone tried to break up a fight of some sort. Valencia is a low crime city but no city of 800,000 people is immune to crime in general.

Yea I believe that’s what must have happened too, or maybe they were defending themselves against a robbery. The police showed up quickly and the commotion died down soon after. Hope no one was seriously injured.

Mass suicide? That’s awful.

What market?

I think they mean the stalls selling clothes, cds and other crap in front of La Lonja. They are there even when Mercat Central is closed

Mercado central. It happened around 16:30.

So we know this - people jumped or fell to their deaths? This resulted in multiple people being stabbed? Someone posted it on Reddit?

So we know nothing.

Just found this article that seems to fit the given description: https://www.lasprovincias.es/sucesos/rina-tumultuaria-centro-valencia-20250907111745-nt.html

Edit: after checking time and place it definitely doesn't match (14.00 vs 16.00, plaza de toros vs mercado central) but still, seems interesting that such a violent scene has happened so recently and so close.

That's yesterday - nothing to do with today's events

I gave one of the market vendors who was bleeding water and the police came within 5 minutes of the event. My wife was traumatized from what she saw and we decided to leave instead of getting in the way of police.
