It wasn't recalled was it? They just said they would edit digital and future prints?

u/imdwalrus 19d ago

It was not recalled, no. This is like the idiots who were trying to profit off Cara Dune figures when Disney dumped her ass from The Mandalorian. I just checked and there are hundreds of those figures listed right now, some new below original retail and some loose for as little as five bucks.

Similarly, you can get a Dilbert Funko or plush for around five bucks.

It's people trying to grift off of controversy, plain and simple. And spoiler alert, when something is tied to hate turns out the demand for it plummets.

I wonder if this will be like the slur in Wolverine back around 2000. Although Marvel did recall it.

Either way, I'm not supporting this bullshit.

Unfortunately, I already preordered issues 1-3.

What happened what was misprinted?

4

u/DefinitionSuperb1110 18d ago

Nothing was misprinted. The author intentionally used transphobic hate speech in narration boxes.

-4

u/PartyOfFore 18d ago

Technically it was vampphobic.

1

u/deadtorrent 18d ago

Technically it was a blatant fucking transphobic dog whistle

Transphobic allegory

1

u/BrawlLikeABigFight20 18d ago

No, and Alien couldn't afford to recall it

6

u/bluecovfefe 19d ago

I think getting some cash off idiots who want to defend this thing that will be quickly corrected and forgotten is a good pursuit.

2

u/crom_unchained 19d ago

In theory, sure.

Grifters gonna grift

u/TheGuiltyDuck 19d ago

I’m sure we’ll get some comicsgate style screeds on YouTube within the next day or two complaining about censorship and the woke mob silencing the writer.

3

u/crom_unchained 19d ago

It’s already happening on a few social media platforms.

6

u/patrickkingart 19d ago

Hell it's already happening in the threads about this issue.

-8

u/CorrectDot4592 19d ago

I honestly don't think he did anything wrong. It's a shame Bloodshot is not my cup of tea, I would buy it just to support the author and fight the woke mob.

7

u/WarmthChecker 19d ago

Is the woke mob in the room with you right now?

-5

u/CorrectDot4592 19d ago

Why the heck would I want to be around them?

3

u/DilbertHigh 18d ago

Better than being around you.

1

u/CorrectDot4592 18d ago edited 18d ago

The door is right across the room. Just close it upon leaving, please.

8

u/TheGuiltyDuck 19d ago

That says a lot about you. You have to live with that.

-3

u/CorrectDot4592 19d ago

Thank you!

Define "woke".

I used to be a lot like you, until I started to notice a pattern. Almost every time someone spews about "wokeness", it's to complain about making something more equal for minorities, try to keep from offending someone else, or just trying to raise the bar for how we treat each other in general.

I don't know what the story here is, and I get that sometimes people can be a bit oversensitive, but it's better to try and be nice than to just be a prick.

u/CorrectDot4592 18d ago

I'm just so fed up with all this "politic correctness". You don't like a black actor in a show, you're racist; you don't praise the LGBT+ community in July, you're a bigot; you don't pay respect for native Amerindians, you're a colonizer; you don't receive immigrants (regardless of their status) with arms wide open, you're a xenophobe.

Our society developed a kind of detrimental way of thinking and behaving so intransigent that we now live by that motto "if you're not part of the solution, then you're part of the problem".

I can't express myself, I can't vocalize my ideas or my visions, my opinions are suppressed because people *might* get offended by them. I'm so fed up with all of this.

Back to the comic in question: no, I don't think the writer did nothing wrong. I got his words literally, there were sort of vampires influencing people, twisting their views and making them consider become vampires as well. That's all to me.

And then come the *ahem* woke mob bashing the guy because the "felt offended", because this strikes too close to home. I'm so fed up with all of this.

u/joooalllanu 18d ago

Who’s suppressing your opinions bro?

-2

u/CorrectDot4592 18d ago

I don't know, Reddit doesn't show who downvoted me to oblivion.

Almost every time someone spews about "wokeness", it's to complain about making something more equal for minorities, try to keep from offending someone else, or just trying to raise the bar for how we treat each other in general.

Here Barack Obama uses the term "woke" to disparage extreme and unproductive political purity from the left:

You know this idea of purity and you're never compromised and you're always politically woke and all that stuff, you should get over that quickly.

u/MegaMook5260 18d ago

So what's unproductive about pushing back against hateful bigotry?

-3

u/ShivasRightFoot 18d ago

So what's unproductive about pushing back against hateful bigotry?

Nothing. That is why Obama pushed back against Woke hatful bigotry.

2

u/MegaMook5260 18d ago

Kinda feel like we're talking past each other. We gonna actually have a conversation, or nah?

-4

u/ShivasRightFoot 18d ago

Woke ideology is defined by the idea that some facet of identity like race or gender produces irreconcilably different views of reality and morality, and that we have an obligation to seek alignment of society's view with the imagined views of groups associated with the political left like minorities and women.

In this sense Wokeness is distinct from older forms of liberal advocacy for minority rights which appeal to universally valid concepts like truth and fairness.

3

u/MegaMook5260 18d ago

I'm not so sure about that.

Look, it's this simple; live and let live. People don't have to justify their existence in order to make their own choices, and live their own lives.

I don't get to insist religious zealots prove their god exists before they make believe he's listening to their prayers, yet they still try to force their beliefs into law that everyone has to follow. So why should anyone else have to put up with such scrutiny?

-1

u/ShivasRightFoot 18d ago

So why should anyone else have to put up with such scrutiny?

We've agreed as a society to leave religious views out of public life precisely because they are not subject to objective external observation and evaluation. The things we manage in liberal societies through deliberative institutions are only things which are subject to our common understandings.

If we cannot reach common understandings on these things we cannot operate deliberative institutions.

If you don't like trans people, and want to support an anti Vax-er. Go ahead...

2

u/PMMEBITCOINPLZ 18d ago

Stupid grift. The way comic book distribution works now recalls aren’t even technically possible. Everyone in the chain has purchased the comic on a non-returnable basis. At best you can offer to buy it back, but if the people you’ve sold it to think it’s more valuable because of the error it’s pointless. DC couldn’t even recall the Bat Penis issue of Batman Damned, they just edited the digital and didn’t reprint it. Same as Valiant will do.

1

u/filthynevs 18d ago

At the risk of being simple, I realise flippers are basically the cancer of comics and this is one more thing for them to feed on, but why isn’t the editor of the comic getting any grief? Part of the job of editing is going through a comic pre publication to make sure the content is acceptable for the audience you’re selling it to and this should never have made it to print.

u/Rustyd97 19d ago

I hate ebay

1

u/crom_unchained 19d ago

Can be a bit of a cesspool, for sure.

1

u/GrayingDadbod 19d ago

New here; what am I missing?

1

u/crom_unchained 19d ago

This panel is a super thinly veiled transphobic allegory.

6

u/GrayingDadbod 19d ago

Oh...I appreciate the info. What an ignorant POS.

-5

u/Pacman_Frog 18d ago

What's ignorant about saying "This exists"?

7

u/GrayingDadbod 18d ago

"And parents who force their child into that irreversible change." GTFO here with that garbage. I'm friends with 3 separate families that have a trans kid, ranging from 14 yo to 23 yo and no one is forcing surgery or their children into anything. It's propaganda garbage from ignorant transphobes who are creating boogeyman to distract and gain power. The only thing it's pointing out is hate and stupidity.

-7

u/Pacman_Frog 18d ago

I was thinking more along the lines of CHILDREN. I get that at 14 you can't consent to sex (honestly that should be like 21) but around that time people start to truly settle into their gender identity and should be allowed to choose on their own.

There are people forcing that irreversible change on like, 6 year olds. That was how I read it.

8

u/GrayingDadbod 18d ago

No one is forcing anything. It's idiotic to think so.

3

u/joooalllanu 18d ago

You gotta tell us who’s force changing 6-year-olds

-1

u/MrPhippsPretzelChips 18d ago

I had to look this up and I knew it would be something ridiculous.

It is not an anti-trans reference at all. It is anti-sexual mutilation of minors. Quite a big difference. Anyone outraged over that should be put on a predator watch list.

8

u/EVERGREEN_ETERNAL 18d ago

What got u to that conclusion, for me it was pretty obviously an anti-trans statement when i first read the book , without seeing any other backlash before hand

-7

u/MrPhippsPretzelChips 18d ago

The accusation is regarding this dialogue from the comic:

“And parents who force their children into that irreversible change… just to feel modern… and believing that they’ll be thankful for it when they grow up.”

I hope you have not overlooked the social contagion that is “transgender children”.

In other words, adults are assigning sexuality to pre-teens who are years away from sexual maturity. In many cases giving them medication to prevent their puberty, essentially keeping them in a state of childhood where they are more easily manipulated into conforming to the deviancy of the parent/caretaker.

5

u/joooalllanu 18d ago

Who’s mutilating minors king?

-5

u/javalarc 19d ago

Well, at least Valiant will be getting some sales for once

2

u/DefinitionSuperb1110 18d ago

Explain.

-2

u/javalarc 18d ago

Speculation and "recalls" make peeps buy things out of fomo or to sell like this for a profit. Not sure why that information is a downvote but it'll give Valiant a sales boost that they don't usually see nowadays.
