Conditions Questions (See Guide before posting) ‘Secret’ Horseshoe Bay Lookout Platform burned and gone!
Very surprised I have not seen the famous secret platform at Horseshoe Bay posted recently that has been burned and destroyed. Any information on this as looks very recent. It’s too bad as it was enjoyed by thousands over the years.

Conditions Questions (See Guide before posting) Wanting to hike panorama ridge, need help and advice.
This next Saturday, I’m wanting to hike panorama ridge. I’m from Oregon and an experienced hiker/ rock climber and what not. I have a buddy coming with me. My question is, (I’ve checked google and can’t find anything). Is there a smaller loop or smaller hike to still get to the hike? I’m afraid 20 miles is going to a lot especially in a day.
Also, any advice or critique would be awesome!
EDIT. My buddy said he wants to do 10 miles max, is there any trail that will lead to the main beautiful spots while keeping that distance?

Conditions Questions (See Guide before posting) What’s the air quality at Garibaldi Provincial Park?
Does anyone know how the air quality is in Garibaldi Provincial Park today? Maps show air quality for Whistler and Squamish, but it’s less clear what the air quality is like in between at Garibaldi. I’m not sure if it’s reasonable to assume the quality will be more like Whistler, like Squamish, or something in between or different. I’m trying to make a judgement call for hiking tomorrow. Thank you.

Conditions Questions (See Guide before posting) hiking in vancouver despite smoky conditions
Hi everyone! I’m visiting Vancouver just for the weekend and hoping to fit in a couple of hikes despite the smoke. Do you have any recommendations for trails where the views are still worth it? I know visibility won’t be perfect, but I’d love to get out and see as much as I can. Thanks!

Conditions Questions (See Guide before posting) How sound crest trail
Hey! I'll be flying in from Montreal to hike the HSCT this weekend and I had a few questions I was hoping to get clarity on.
We are planning to do it as a 2 night trip getting to trail around mid day the first day and hoping to catch a flight out on the 3rd day.
For those who have hiked it before, in your opinion are there reliable tree branches along the trail to do PROPER bear hangs? I'd rather leave my bv500 at home if I can save on the weight but I know an improper bearhang is probably just as bad as no bear hang at all. Should I just suck it up and bring the bear can?
Our plan is to go straight to trail from the airport, does anyone know if there are any backpacking fuel canisters for sale at the "big bear sports" located next to cypress lodge? Or what would the easiest place to purchase them be (close to the airport or cypress ideally)
If anyone's been up there in the last week or so how many km's should we expect to be dry before the first water source? (Ive generally read that theres no reliable sources before magnesia meadows) Let me know any other resources you might have for checking water reports in the area(been checking alltrails).
Thanks in advance and happy trails!

Conditions Questions (See Guide before posting) Ignorant Californian question: Garibaldi and Joffre snowed out?
Hi. Am thinking of coming up from SoCal next week. I am an experienced hiker but fiance is not. I know the trail beyond the lake (for Garibaldi) is snowed out as of two weeks ago and it’s tough to make it even to Taylor Meadows. But is it still minimal snow to get to the lake? Same question for Garibaldi. Also, are the lake colors even turquoise this time of year? I know nature is beautiful all year round, but that classic turquoise view is on my bucket list so I hate to waste money and precious limited time off (not to mention my sanity from a whining fiancé) if current conditions are suboptimal. Last review on AllTrails and this subreddit seems to be about two weeks ago so they’re not reliable. Thanks in advance to you guys who live out there in heaven on earth!

Conditions Questions (See Guide before posting) Getting to cheam peak
Yesterday I went to cheakamus lake via Cheakumus E forest service rd. It was a slow and bumpy ride but my 2005 Honda Civic got up perfectly fine.
I heard cheam peak is only accessible via offroading vehicle, but are the roads similar to cheakumus lake rd? My honda civic is a beater and so i dont care if it gets beat up a little.

Conditions Questions (See Guide before posting) Scramble at Mount Seymour

Conditions Questions (See Guide before posting) Panaroma ridge - weather question
Hi everyone,
Would hiking Saturday be clear? Obviously Friday is ideal but not sure if that is possible for us but debating if we should make it work or do you think we will have a clear view on Saturday?

Conditions Questions (See Guide before posting) Brandywine mountain conditions this time of year?
Recent photos on alltrails indicate that it's quite snowy. Is Brandywine at this time of year a no-go? Should I bring snow/ice equipment? Any thoughts on the road up there too? I have a 4WD SUV but it's not a 4x4.
Any similar alternatives that might be doable this weekend?

Conditions Questions (See Guide before posting) Questions about the Armchair Traverse
Hello all. I'm looking to do the armchair traverse this coming Sunday. To those who did it:
How long did it take you? -I'm assuming a car to car time of 15 hours
Did you use any maps? I can't find the traverse route on all trails. My plan is to download the routes to cook and weart, and figure out the traverse part on my own.
How would you compare the difficulty of climbing compared to West Lion, Sky Pilot and Needle-Markhor Traverse?
Thanks to any and all answers.

Conditions Questions (See Guide before posting) Joffre Lakes Highway Entry
Has anybody been to Joffre Lakes in the last few days/weeks? I just saw a video of First Nations blocking the highway to enter Joffre from CBC News. I have a camping reservation for Monday night, and BC Parks said I'm still able to enter the park. I'm not sure what the situation is right now...

Conditions Questions (See Guide before posting) Do i need bear spray?
I'm planning to hike Panorama Ridge this Wednesday, May 28th, since the forecast is calling for sunshine all day. I know it's a challenging one-day trek, but I’ve done several high-altitude (14,000+ ft) Himalayan treks before, so I’m confident in managing the distance and elevation.
Quick question: Is it necessary to carry bear spray? Also, since it's a weekday, do you think there will be many other hikers on the trail?
Feel free to DM me if you're planning the same hike and would like to team up! Thanks!
Edit : Thank you each and everyone for all the comments and guidance. I would like to add that I am not avalanche trained. The only mountain gear i have is trek boots and hiking poles. The weather prediction for wednesday is 9 to 24 degree celsius so I believe the risk of avalanche is more. Should i still attempt doing it or return from garibaldi lake? Thank you everyone again.
Final edit : Thank you all for your helpful suggestions! You all clearly have way more experience, and after reading your comments, I’ve decided to hold off on doing Panorama Ridge for now and give it another shot in the summer when the snow’s gone. I genuinely appreciate every one of you for keeping me grounded (come on, I’m 23 - if I’m not making questionable decisions now, am I even doing my twenties right?).

Conditions Questions (See Guide before posting) Howe Sound Crest Trail - 2 days or 3?
I'm planning on doing the HSCT next weekend with a small group and we're debating the timeline. We just did Albert Edward and found it to be challenging, so we're thinking that 3 days might space out what's otherwise a very difficult first day to do the 15km to Magnesia.
Supposedly there's a tarn and some rough bivvy spots at Unnecessary, but I've been up there before and never seen them - does anyone have information on where they are, and if they're in season right now? If they're dry, it means humping in even more water and carrying heavy packs through the Lions traverse and James peak catwalk.
As for our experience level, I've been up to the Lions, Brunswick Lake, and Unnecessary (just never connected them via the HSCT), have done the Baden Powel in its entirety over 2 days, and have been hiking for many years. Our party is a little less experienced but not by much.

Conditions Questions (See Guide before posting) Mosquito Situation in Garibaldi
Hey Everyone! We are doing a 3 night trip into Garaibaldi Provincial Park next week. Two nights at Taylor Meadows and then traversing over to Helm Creek for the final night. We’ll exit via Cheakamus.
I’m just wondering if anyone can provide an update on the mosquito situation up there at the moment. Thanks in advance!

Conditions Questions (See Guide before posting) Coquitlam Crunch vs Grouse Grind?
I’m somewhat of a novice-moderate hiker, doing some hikes up in Golden Ears and Port Coquitlam, and I have completed the Coquitlam Crunch a few times. How difficult is the Grouse Grind in comparison to the Coquitlam Crunch?
From checking AllTrails it looks like they take the same amount of time to complete, it’s just the drastic elevation difference. If I am comfortable completing the Coquitlam Crunch with no breaks, would I be prepared for the Grouse Grind?

Conditions Questions (See Guide before posting) Wondering about the Hanes Valley trail from Lynn Headwaters to Grouse.
From what I can see on Alltrails and the Metro Vancouver Parks website, the trail is still closed. Does anyone have details about when it will open this summer, or if it will open at all?

Conditions Questions (See Guide before posting) Garibaldi Lake bear hang
Hi! Has anyone been up Garibaldi Lake campground recently? Is the food hang available for use now?
Asking because BC parks has a notice posted on June 2nd mentionning "food hangs may be inaccessible".

Conditions Questions (See Guide before posting) Wedgemount TrailHead Road Conditions?
Was tryna get out to wedgemount lake in the coming weeks. Saw some info about the FSR road leading to trailhead to be a bit bumpy. Currently have a super low ground clearance sedan, would that make the cut? Or would i probably need to take an suv with a buddy. Thanks in advance.

Conditions Questions (See Guide before posting) Whistler Mountain/High Note Traile 4th September
Hi Everyone,
I’m from the UK in Vancouver for the first time and have bought a bus ticket with the intention of hiking whistler mountain & the high note trail tomorrow. After reading some of the news stories about the smoke in the region is it still safe to do this? Will the views be pretty terrible as a result of the smoke?
Will be really disappointed if I can’t make it. Any advice or maybe alternatives would be much appreciated (no car, public transport only)
