Historical Any clues on this one?

Seen in the Wrightington Hotel near Wigan, I asked staff if anyone knows but apparently the owner of the place is a bit of a collector.

This is an asafo flag. They're an African tribe who made their own flags inspired by British flags with the union Jack in the corner

It’s interesting how, presumably due to only having seen British flags when the tradition first began, they kinda just assumed that having some form of Union Jack in the top corner was just how flags were supposed to look
