The design is based on the logo of the Alton Limited railroad, for which the town was named, with many employees from the railroad relocating to the town. The central star symbolizes Texas, as well as forming a slight A shape in the center for Alton’s name. The gray bar symbolizes the Spiderweb railroad which brought population to Alton, as well as the town’s proximity to the Rio Grande and the international border. The blue represents the sky above the plains, and the gray represents caliche, which was mined in the town.
