Announcement Friday Free for All Weekly thread! General collection/discussion for things that don't fit elsewhere! (ask anything!)

Greetings /r/videoediting!

This thread is 100% for the other stuff you might want to talk about.

A number of other reddits have a free for all thread - where you might find a regular discussion - not specific to a post.

Think of it as a bar with a bunch of friends.

Some suggestions:

  • Strategy on a project you want to talk about how to best promote?
  • Upgrading something and you want opinions?
  • How does your website look?
  • Local/virtual Meetups?
  • Looking for a collaborator (no "I'm a creator and I'm looking for an editor" posts)

Things that shouldn't go here: Feedback/What tool should I use to edit/Which system to buy? There are dedicated threads for this, please use them!

And in this regular Friday thread, while our general rules are still in place (no piracy, be civil, no links w/referrer codes), the following topics relaxed :

  • Great tutorials you found/you created.
  • Trying to do this as a side hustle (although generally, websites like Fiverr mean you'll be shooting for the basement/working for free and we hate that someone would exploit you like that)
  • A great piece of software/hardware/service you found
  • Great free music libraries/media you found.
  • How much to charge? What is your time worth? Estimate 2-3x the time you think it'll take to edit as how much time to quote.

Our mod team is watching this thread and we'll tweak these as they develop!

Production Q Options to animate srt file?

Ok I have a video I want to edit for social media and I've been trying to figure out how to animate the subtitle so the word that's being said is highlighted, you know how it looks.

I'm using DaVinci Resolve free version so I can't use their options, but I didn't realize until I'd already typed everything and saved it as a .srt file.

So I'm trying to look for options that let me upload the .srt file I already have and animate that.

What options are there for animating existing text, not making new ones? I'll even take a way to do them manually at this point even if it'll take longer.

I'll accept I'm stupid and bad at researching if someone can just point me to an answer please orz

How did they do that? How to make this kind of video style that’s popular these days?

Hey everyone, I've been seeing a lot of videos recently with a similar visual style, and I'm curious how they're made. It looks like many creators are using the same kind of template. What is this style called, and how can I make videos like this? https://youtube.com/shorts/Qycf-7xD3TU?si=WQwJI-kntk_NElLx

How did they do that? Help with video editing style, pls

Hi all! First time posting here. I want to create a DJ mixing video, and I would like to edit it like the video in the link below.

My question is: how was this made exactly? Are there video effects of some sort applied to different parts of the video? If so, how complex would it be for a beginner to intermediate user of Premiere Pro and After Effects?

Any response will be much appreciated!

Thank you in advance!

How did they do that? how do you extend gifs on premiere pro? 🙏

i edit with premiere pro and i've been using a lot of gifs for a couple of videos, i've also been thinking of using them for next ones as well, but i'm having a major time-consuming problem. everytime i want to make the gif longer, unlike sony vegas or after effects, i need to copy and paste the gif, put all the sections together and then make it a nested level. is there another way to extend gifs on premiere pro that doesn't involve other programs? (i'm also open to check plugins that do that)

My assumption is capcut with ai and sound effect with a bit of visual effect zooming in and out.

Not sure if anyone have the exact set up on this.

How did they do that? I feel like my creative side is slowly vanishing

Video Editor for meta ads. And for the past weeks or month, Quality Control keeps on reminding me regarding my footage selection. Both for the scrollstoppers and the body. Now, every time I would upload my video edit ads for checking, I am not that confident that they will like it. I am questioning my skills and creative now. I know revisions are normal but.. Idk. I just want to let this feeling out.

Footage needed Cringe 2018 Youtube intro

Hey! I want to make a dumb CSGO video with some funny clips of me and my friends. Nothing serious—just packed with trash memes. I think a 2018-style YouTube “free intro template” with dubstep music would be hilarious. My name is IAtesI. Can someone help me make an MP4?

How did they do that? Not even sure how to google this one?? Dynamic link between Premiere and Audition with some tweaks.

I have an existing Audition timeline. I have clips from a premiere timeline that id like to add in, but im not sure how exactly to transfer them into the existing Audition timeline. Theres Dynamic Link but that can only be inserted onto a new timeline, correct?

Been editing on Premiere for a while but Audition is new to me and I'm definitely not past the learning curve yet.

Tech Support As soon as I import a clip into DaVinci Resolve it immediately shows as Media Offline

It's a weird one so as I said in the title I am import a video clip into DaVinci Resolve as soon as it is imported it shows as Media Offline. I have tried relinking the clip, removing it completely and reimporting it and I've even checked the clip itself plays no issues in my Videos on my PC.

All the videos I've watched so far about this issue are about if the clip isn't linked anymore but nothing on what seems to be happening to me from what I've found so far.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Other (requires mod approval) How technical is Inside the Edit?

I've got some funds to spend on professional development and since I do some social media video editing, I'm going to use it for film editing training. Inside the Edit seems like a good starting point for what I'm wanting, but I can't tell if it has enough technical instruction. A lot of the reviews praise the theoretical and creative side, which I like, but I want to make sure I'd walk away with increased technical skill as well. I know enough that I won't need hand-holding through a particular platform, but would like to increase my actual skills. Has anyone had experience with this who might recommend whether I'd get this from Inside the Edit? TIA

Tech Support Anyone know this UGC editing company called eJam? Seems sketchy

I applied to this video editing job post in indeed, didn't much think of it. Saw the salary rate of $5-6 per hour, thought it was something interesting so I applied. They responded a week later in my email and they gave me a test assignment before I could get hired. Scrap up an AI video about this anti animal lice product, and found out that this type of "UGC" is one of those videos. I know those types of videos are pretty sketchy when you see em in facebook. So I thought that I don't think they're gonna be putting up on that $5-6/hour promise, UGC ads like these are pretty common and easy. The type of stuff a $1 per video person makes. So I don't really trusted it, that 72 hour time period given to me is about to run out. I was doing a different test edit for a company and I had a job fair anyways so. I don't think I'm gonna take this job or if anyone objects here and I might've missed on the opportunity, I might be able to email em back and tell em that gmail sent their email to the trash lmao. Hope someone got details on this eJam company. I can even DM you some information about it like the email and the assignment task they gave me or to editors.

Tech Support Lowest (storage-space-wise) encoder settings for 4k/8bit/25fps footage that still allows further editing and render without loss of visual quality.

I have many hours of videos of my children shot in 4K at 100Mbps in h.264 (see at the bottom). This is taking way too much space. I would like to encode it into h.265 but at bitrate/settings that lends itself to further editing, just in case I decide to use it in future.

For encoding, I would use Apple's VideoToolbox through HandBrake or ffmpeg but I can't decide on the settings.

  • What is the safest low I can stoop down to (to save space) without losing anything visually after editing and rendering it again?
  • Also, what would the process be if I wanted to edit it? i.e. edit directly as h.265 or translate into prores and then encode final product into h.265/av1 again?
  • or should I just wait until AV1 is good/usable enough and reencode then?

Tech Support Splice adding a filter on 4k WHY??? How do I fix this please?

Hi, I have noticed something when exporting a video on ultra 4K in Splice app on the phone google pixel 9. My imported videos are 4k that I shot with DJI action pro 5. I export it as 4k with 60fps. When I export it it seems like it either adds color or changes the video colors and I DON'T want this. I can't understand why this is happeing, I checked on google and it says that Splice app doesn't add a filter. Maybe it does color grading for some reason but I also don't want this.
What I also noticed is that if I play back the video on my phones it's still enchanced, but then when I go and use google photo edit feature, it returns to it's normal colors keeping the 4k quality.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

Hope people can see this, for some reason the quality is very low but I hope you can see what I mean - Video

Tech Support My videos on FIlmora get stuck when I edit them. Is there a solution for it?

I recently started a YouTube channel and make videos in 4K. When I import them into Filmora, the videos get stuck when I edit them. So I have to turn on the GPU mode and put my laptop on the charger.

I have Lenovo Legion 5. Core i7, 12th Gen, 16GB RAM, 1.5TB HDD, Nvidia RTX 3060.

Also, I have a paid version of Filmora 13. I bought their lifetime plan. So virus due to a pirated version can't be a reason.

Is there a way to fix it?

How did they do that? Inquiry

Hey everyone!

New to all this stuff but I’m just wondering if anyone has any info / knowledge about how this kind of video effect is achieved ?

My thought is that it’s done by overlaying two of the same videos but cutting one out and over exposing the colour - although I may be wrong and to be fair I think I am wrong haha

Any help or advice would be appreciated ! Cheers

Tech Support Davinci Voice Over Crackling Audio Sound Fix?

I'm trying to do voiceovers with Davinci Resolve through farlight tab and recording audio within Davinci but the audio is coming out crackling/ glitchy. I check the files it creates and those are also crackling.

I know it has to do with me using Voicemeeter + voicemod at once when recording voiceovers. I use those to make myself sound crisper and nicer/ remove background noise. When I listen to those through voicemod I sound fine and in calls with others. It only after when recording in Davinci I hear crackles.

Is there a known way to solve this issue? Or would it be best I just record with my Mic without the voicemod source instead. That would just mean I wouldn't sound as nice.

Workflow 8mm Transfer - Clean Up with Topaz and Movavi

I recently had around 3 hours worth of 60-year-old 8mm film converted to digital. The raw conversions were pretty rough.

A month ago, I'd never done anything involving video editing but wanted to see what technology could do to clean up the videos. I experimented with trial versions of several programs and settled on Topaz 7.0 and Monavi Video Editor 2025.

The results were frankly amazing, albeit, requiring several steps.

  1. Processing the 8mm digital transfer with Topaz Starlight Mini.
  2. Processing the Starlight Mini output a second time with Topaz, changing frame rate, converting to HDR and using Motion De-blur.
  3. Using Monavi to apply exposure correction, make cuts and reassembling fragments into a final video.

I'll try to add screenshot examples in comments.\

NOTE: all processing was done locally on my home PC (7950X/4090). The local Starlight Mini processing took 12-13 hours for a 20-minute source video.

Free Stuff I built my own free web tool for video stabilization

Hey everyone,

A few weeks ago, I gota super shaky video and need to fix it. My first thought was to just do a quick Google search and find a simple tool to get the job done.

What I found instead were a bunch of confusing, expensive, and overly complicated professional software options. They were all overkill for what I needed—just a simple stabilization function. I then checked out some free online tools, but they were either loaded with ads. I even found a neat-looking site, but it was all in Chinese!

After a lot of digging, I decided to use the powerful open-source software ffmpeg and combine the best parts of all the tools I had found. The result is a simple, free web app.

You can use it to quickly stabilize your shaky videos without downloading any software or dealing with complicated settings. It’s completely free and has no ads.

I'd love for you to check it out and let me know what you think: https://vid.magid.io/

Tech Support How should I deal with multiple footage sources that a recorded in different fps?

I am making a gaming video but don't know how I should approach the issue of my face cam being 25 fps and the gameplay being 60 fps. Should I edit the video project in the higher fps or the lower fps or should I choose an fps in the middle of the two like 48 fps?
