Business, Tax, and Copyright how much do I charge for this type of video

I film with an S5ii and a 24-70mm f/2.8.
How much should I charge for this type of social media video? Should I charge per video, or for several videos as a package?

I made this video for free because I didn’t have clients and I needed content for my social media. I also noticed that many people don’t pay €300–400 or more for a short Instagram reel of their MMA or football training for their social media. What can I offer so that clients are willing to pay more
What do you think?

How do I do this? / What's This Thing? Best way to make a rig to shoot out passenger window

Post image

I was wondering if anyone had any tips on building something similar to this, to shoot stills out of a car’s passenger window, I’d buy this exact setup but the company don’t make it anymore

The camera is going to be relatively heavy (7lb ish) , I bought a magic arm but I just don’t trust it’s going to be stable enough

How do I do this? / What's This Thing? I bought the wrong mic receiver

Upvotes

Hi, I got a holly m2s wireless lav with the usb C receiver only.

I use them all, lightning, usb C and 3.5mm all the time and switch between cameras a lot. I got this thinking I’d just have to adapt the receiver to make it work with any camera but apparently it doesn’t work like that.

But before I buy the extra receivers I wanted to check if anyone out there has got it work with a specific adapter, the usual usb C to lightning don’t work for example.

Thanks in advance!

Technical/Equipment Help and Information Autofocus issues FX3 + tamron 30-150 2.8

Upvotes

Hi everyone, Today I have received two brand new tamrons 30-150 2.8 for our fx3’s Currently i have only one fx3 body to test them on so i Did and both lenses are having terrible autofocus performance, glitching, hunting, focus in and out. Never had this problem with sigma 24-70 2.8 so I’m wondering what could be wrong, maybe something with my fx3 camera? It was set on small square spot autofocus, also tried large one, whole bunch of different autofocus settings, yet results are unsatisfactory to say the least. Anyone has any suggestions or similar experience? Thanks a lot

How do I do this? / What's This Thing? Why does my image look sharp and great quality close, but farther away has red shift and lack of sharpness

Hi guys! Super new to videography and I’m having some trouble. I’m shooting with an a6400 on the “auto” video settings and for some reason I’m seeing this strange red shifting and super grainy quality with objects far away, almost like it’s not optical zoom, even with AF tracking properly. Anyone know why/what this is? It doesn’t happen with photos

Technical/Equipment Help and Information I’m ’not getting’ the Ninja V

Hello,

So I bought a Ninja V a while back. I know some of you guys swear by monitors and all that but it really hasn’t found a place with me like something like a gimbal did, though I’m sure the problem is my lack of a clue.

The weight with them god damm NPF batteries really dogs me as I’ve always been more of a gimbal guy and I find it really weighs me down, particularly on longer shoots. And the HDMI cable isn’t great for a gimbal.

The main things I like are, obviously the big screen, and also having false colour…

…speaking of which, how do I know if the false colour is right for the profile? E.g you expose slog3 darker than slog2 don’t you?

The AngelBird SDD, as much as I don’t want to trust anything, has actually been rock solid and in fact saved my ass on one shoot when my camera SD Card corrupted itself mid band performance.

But my question is - to really get the most out of a monitor, the Ninja V in particular, what are some of the features and functions that really help you love it that I’m not using?

As a weird side point, I have considered a Shinobi, given it offer touch focus. Any opinions on it?

Thank you

Feedback / I made this! First wedding film - looking for any feedback

I'm a bit of a hobby photographer and agreed to shoot a family friends wedding after telling them I'd do it for free in case it's not that great. I'd never really done video before, and i definitely had no experience with weddings.

I am now considering weddings gigs in my area as a side hustle now that I've got some extra time with my current job.

Just looking for any feedback and if i should pursue this given this was my first attempt.
Would really appreciate any feedback advice at all.

Cheers!

Technical/Equipment Help and Information The "accessory dock" on the Sachtler Flowtech legs

I want to mount ifootage crabs onto the flowtech legs. seems like there are two (three?) available screw ports which seems like 3/8"-16 threaded. I tried to mount the ifootage quick release adapter but it was hard to tighten it and the moulding on the tripod is a bit weird, it worked, but i cant help but think im using it wrong. How do you guys screw on an arri screw in there?

Business, Tax, and Copyright “How much do I charge?” Answered.

I see a lot of posts asking what to charge and how much a video is worth. It’s an impossible question to answer online because there a ton of factors to consider: what’s the expected cost of production where you live? Is this a one-off project or part of a retainer agreement? What are your expenses? Etc.

So instead of starting with a video and working out what it’s worth, you need to start with some questions to figure out your pricing. 1. How much do you need to make monthly? Include in this answer: A) how much do you want to make as a salary? B) what monthly expenses do you have? C) what annual expenses do you have? (Best guess and then divide by 12) D) what taxes will you have to pay? (Typically quarterly if you’re in the U.S.) E) what production expenses will you have? (Permits, gear, models, etc.) Once you figure out all of these numbers, you’ll know how much you need to make monthly. F) what is the average cost of competitors services to my own?

  1. What can I sell to Clients? From there, you need to identify your client, and build packages that includes content that will solve their problems. For my clients, 99% of jobs are either A) client needs website videos or B) client needs social media content. This is because they need to get people to their page or site, and then sell them once they are there. So to build packages, figure out the following: A) how many clients can you handle a month B) do you want to focus on retainer or one-off jobs? C) what is a new customer worth to your client? D) what can I make to solve their issue and how long will that take me? E) can I offer supplementary services as add-ons? (Social media posting, photography, etc) F) how much budget does my client realistically have?

Once you know all of this, you’ll know what you need to make and how many clients you need a month to make it there.

The sweet spot you are looking for is to get a package together that can bring the client in more money than what they spend on your content. If they make money with you, they will stick with you. I’m probably forgetting some things so let me know if you have questions and I’ll answer them the best that I can!

For context I’m 3 years into my production business that was originally just me and as of a few months ago my wife joined me full time. It took a lot of trial and error to get to the point we are now since I had 0 sales or business experience when I started my business

How do I do this? / What's This Thing? High speed montage effect

I am working on an effect for a music video where it's a very fast part of the song (think flight of the bumblebee but faster) and I want to have a high speed montage going by of news footage and most of it can kinda go too fast for them to really focus on but every once in a while I want something to stand out a bit.

I tried to do this once before by trying to assemble it at same time to the song but that drove me insane so what I was thin this time would be to lay it all out full length and maybe then remove every 7th or so frame and make a timelapse out of the frames...I feel like there may be something I'm missing here that is really obvious or some idea for better way. so throwing it out to you guys.

A good example of what I am talking about is in the ministry stigmata video at around 2:08

How do I do this? / What's This Thing? Getting jobs/leads

As a videographer, what are some of the best ways that you’ve gotten leads and consistent work?

I’ve run facebook ads to find business that wanted a free video. That resulted in a consistent 12 months of paid work which has been great. But that’s started to fall off now.

So I’m just looking for a new avenue. Im thinking of running facebook ads again but with a better offer. But if there’s something better I’m all ears!
