Game Mastering Foundry with a group, some at the table, some via Zoom
Hi all,
I'm looking at Foundry for WFRP. From what I've read in this Reddit it works really well. I've been GMing the Starter Set, and in a few months will begin EiS (some new players and all new characters). A few questions:
Will my 4 players all require their own Foundry WFRP license?
If so, if I have all the add-ons (UiA, EiS, WoM etc) and use those as GM, will they need all of them as well?
I will have 2 players at the table, and 2 attending via Zoom. Is this workable somehow using Foundry do you think?

I’ve run a lot of WFRP4e in foundry. It’s great. Much easier than running it pnp. As others have said, only one Foundry/WFRP Modules license is needed for the whole group. As for mixing, in person and Zoom, definitely not ideal. I would personally suggest trying to push the whole thing online. Either way, even with in person players, it’s best if everyone has their own computer to log into the game individually. Foundry does not work with mobile devices and while trying to share one machine with multiple players is possible, it is far from ideal. Getting started in Foundry can be daunting. I’m happy to lend a hand and maybe give you a demo if you’re interested. Let me know.

As others have said, only one person needs to have the foundry stuff (doesn't need to be you).
I think it's difficult with mixed online and in-person groups. The online ones are usually more quiet because of delays and awkwardness. But you'll have to see how it feels for you. Worst case, you'll need to switch to completely online, if the zoom people cannot join in person.
And you can either have each player bring a laptop to the game to look at the map etc, or you have a screen for an observer account in foundry and you as the gm can move each token on the map and track conditions and such.
And, as far as i know, foundry doesn't work with phones or tablets (at least not ipad minis, not sure about bigger ones). So, a laptop might be necessary

Many thanks guys! Our group is me (GM) and 2 players at the table, and 2 players via Zoom in another city. Its worked well for D&D, SW5e (fantastic Star Wars game), TOR, so hoping we can make it work for WFRP too. I've played the Starter Set just with the 2 locals, but Foundry does sound excellent as an aid. Great to know only one license needed, thats gold. Cheers all!

Just as an aside, it's possible for you to override the dice rolls in Foundry. So if you want the people locally to roll real dice while the online ones roll online, that's do-able. This then gives the benefit that you can offload some of the calculations and rules memorisation to Foundry too, which maintaining the clack of the bones for the local players at least.

Well first of all, only the host needs a foundry license, so everything you have licenses for, the players can use via ur foundry instance.
Having 2 in Person and 2 via Zoom call depends on what ur possiblities are, normally Foundry is a VTT so it has everything you need for people to connect to it via internet. You only need a bit of networking knowledge to make that possible.
For the people attending in person, it would be good if they have each have a laptop with them to be able to access everything via their own User account on your foundry. BUT if that is not the case, then you would need to give them some kind of visualization of foundry i.e. a screen and still have ur own way to access it, since it would be annoying if they were able to read stuff only u r meant to see.
Can u elaborate maybe how you want them to use foundry in person?
