Programming Pain in knee near patellar tendon

17M, I’ve had this knee pain for a while hurts to put pressure on the knee in a certain angle and hurts when I walk up the stairs and when I extend the leg slowly, I was weightlifting pretty heavily for a while before like squatting a lot I think it put too much wear and tear on the tendon and it couldn’t keep up with my quad muscles (which were growing pretty decently) , so I stopped squatting for a while now and have noticed a lot of atrophy in the quad but not much difference in the knee pain. Was doing a lot more stretching and rolling out at first but still noticed pain, recently started doing some isometrics like a very deep lunge where my knee tracks a lot over my toes and it immediately feels better like I don’t have anymore pain at all lol it’s pretty weird but then it slowly comes back again like the next day so I’m confused on if I should just continue doing this or what if anyone could help it would be much appreciated.

Programming I have terrible shoulder/thoracic mobility (ability to raise hands over head)

I have terrible shoulder/thoracic mobility (ability to raise hands over head). My overhead looks more like a super high incline press. I have been stretching and doing alot of "light" over head presses, however I am not certain if its helping. Lately I have been getting alot of worsening lower back pain, usually after I do overhead presses. My thought was that the more I discipline myself to do light overhead pressing, the more that my mobility would improve (this is what I was told), however I am not certain if any number of light pressing will make much difference and not sure if it's safe for me to continue.

When I say light overhead pressing, I am talking about just a 45 lb bar or even a 30 lb bar. I'll typically try to do nice slow reps, with a squeeze at the top, focusing on stretching my mobility as much as possible. I typically do these till failure. My lower back is always sore afterwards, even if I focus on bracing.

So not sure if I should ditch the overhead pressing and focus strictly on stretching or continue with the pressing and endure the pain?

I’m just a casual self taught lifter not trying to compete but would like to hit 100kg. Been on off for years and used to just max out all the time but now drilling a lot more at lower weights but building back up. Lifetime best was 215lbs/97.5kg but the last few escaped me and I’m just working my way back to it. Any advice?

I've been working on catching my snatches properly and yesterday it paid off with a surprise 3kg pb and probably the prettiest snatch I've done to date. I'm going to be riding this high for at least 4 days 😂

Programming Office-friendly prehab routines for Oly lifters

Like many of folks, I unfortunately have to spend 40 hours a week in an office environment. I’m typically able to utilize my actual breaks for going on walks, light stretching, and inconsistently doing “grease the groove” type of repetitive movements (usually pushups). None of this is organized at all currently and is mostly just to keep myself moving and not go insane in front of a computer.

I frequently have other times while in remote meetings and similar where I could be doing something at my desk. This isn’t an opportunity for sneaking in a HIIT session, lifting anything heavy, or doing anything that’s really going to break a sweat or require changing into shorts.

I’m curious if others in this community have figured out any low impact prehab routines that can be done fairly mindlessly, that cumulatively may have some benefits for staving off common injuries? Generally looking for equipment-free solutions but I do have resistance bands, a yoga mat, and theoretically could bring in light dumbbells or slant boards or similar.

EDIT: To clarify, in my particular case I have a reasonably sized private office with a door I can close. Looking ridiculous while doing PT stuff is fine, it’s just not the place for higher intensity work.

We might be back. 15 months after UCL reconstruction

Had to change grip to full width due to point of contact at the hips being too low, which was causing power loss in the extension and barbell being sent forward

Full width grip is less forgiving when it comes to barbell landing forwards or backwards overhead

Jumping after contact had barbell landing in painfull positions for my elbows with full width grip, so now I'm snatching without the jump and so far it works great for me, snatches feel much more stable and consistent

Not sure if it looks the part, but I feel working on what has been suggested has helped with my technique lately. I've been working more on my keeping tension in my upper back during the first pull and my footwork (pulling under vs. jumping). My squat however, is still lacking (143kg). At the moment, would it make more sense to emphasize getting a bigger squat and just hit a few Sn singles/doubles at 80-90% throughout the week to keep the motor pattern sharp? Are there glaring technical flaws that I should work on ironing out right now instead? Thanks for all the help so far, it been a challenging but rewarding process!

The gym I am currently going to has 4 wooden weightlifting platforms that are regularly used for both powerlifting and weightlifting. Management decided to bolt a hip thrust machine down on one of them. Is this whack?

Meet Report&Competition Qualifying confusion

I am new to Olympic lifting and I’m having some trouble understanding the qualifying rules for some of the events that I would like to try to compete at. I joined the “USA masters” weightlifting organization and signed up for the Howard Cohen event in December however, after talking to some people at the gym the other day, I believe I would also like to try to compete at the Arnold in February of next year. My question is is USA weightlifting and USA masters weightlifting two different organizations do I need to become a member in both and do these events overlap for qualifying totals? I’d like to be able to start competing at various events, but I’m slightly confused as to which events lineup with others and could use some help.

Club Barcelona Gyms

Hi everyone!

I’m looking for gyms to train at in Barcelona city. Doesn’t need to be a weightlifting gym just a gym with a platform will do. If anyone knows anything please let me know!

I have seen there is a team on Montjuïc but their prices are super expensive as I don’t really want coaching just a place to train.

Thanks in advance!

Fluff It’s been a while. Here’s 102 for 5.

I took a break from weightlifting just over a month ago. I had some mental health issues that I could not ignore so my energy is more focused on that, other aspects of life, and allowing fitness to be fitness again.

Weightlifting will always be there and I’m sure there will be a time where I snatch and clean and jerk more regularly, but I’m really enjoying the journey that I’m on at the moment.

Here’s a random 102kg push press for 5 from the crossfit programming that I’m doing.
