Solved Where is this taken of my Grandad?

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but while fixing an old family album i found this photo of my grandad (man on the right). My mum desperately wants to know where it was taken and my best idea was to come to reddit to ask since i have no clue My grandad fought in World War 2 and passed before i was alive so i cant ask him anything. The writing above the photo is other peoples names like Albert, Sheila and Dorothy who are on the page too and have also passed, there is also what looks like “masmarshal” or “mr marshal” but im not sure I do know my grandad did not write this or put the album together, that would be my aunt who also doesnt know where the photo is taken. I cant read whatever is written on the back of the photo unfortunately. If there is a better place to post this please let me know and thanks for any help anyone can give knowing where this is taken! I can try answer any questions if they help find the location!

There’s the added benefit that, given the location of the photo, it had to have been taken after 2 May 1945, the day the Germans surrendered in Italy

Wow that never occurred to me! He was part of the British army and I have his medals somewhere, maybe one would link to this photo, thanks!

I think the back view is upside down; flip it and it reads 4556/1.

Just a guess, but that could mean 1945, May 6, 1st picture in a series. That would be just 4 days after the surrender. (Edit: A guess based on having deciphered a lot of old notes on pictures at work and for family.)

That looks like it might be the Hotel Excelsior Venice Lido Resort behind them, on the Lido island of Venice, Italy.

I think you can drop your pic into one of the AI tools and ask it for details and it figures out where it is etc.
