Fox (Hulu) owns the rights to the show. Netflix had a streaming agreement with them for 18 months, which is up at the end of September. This kind of thing happens frequently, it's not a marketing ploy to get more people to watch.

It's not uncommon for them to renegotiate streaming deals near the end of the original deal, especially when it's been performing well. So there is a chance it might get extended. If not, it's still on Hulu.

Disney owns the rights since they bought Fox in 2019.

So we need to campaign Disney to get the reboot going.

Also, thank you both (@Rainy_Day13 & AVestedInteret) because I had no idea Disney ultimately owned the rights to White Collar.

Hulu passed on the revival. 20th Century Television is the studio attached to producing the revival.

They're both part of the Disney conglomerate, so make of that what you will.

Sadly I knew Hulu had passed, I wish I knew why.

Hopefully it comes back.

There could be so many reasons: This sort of show doesn't fit the line-up they have in mind for their streamer, the show is too expensive (since they have a lot of location shoots) for the revenue they expect it to bring back in, they didn't want to greenlight two Matt Bomer shows at the same time. A show prosecuting White Collar criminals won't resonate while a con man is in charge of the country (they only passed on after the election).

There could be soooo many reasons. But I think the fact that it took Hulu months to finally pass on it and the fact that the script made it up to the highest echelons of Hulu is a good sign.

If it was just a fact of the script being bad, they would have passed right away and wouldn't have had it go all the way up to the top until they made that decision.

That's of course just my uneducated opinion and could be very wrong as well ;)

Those are all good guesses.

My guess is production cost, which apparently was quite high, is the reason. Your comment about Hulu’s lineup makes me ponder, because I don’t see a theme. And it could be they are trying for a theme… who knows?

For example, Wheel of Time’s production costs are what caused Amazon to drop it, despite it doing well.

Which broke my heart because that’s another of my favourite series.

Isn’t mozzie also dead irl?

5

u/LadySlippersAndLoons 11d ago

The actor Willie Garson sadly died in 2021 due to pancreatic cancer.

The cast has repeatedly said that the scripts (plural) they’ve been given have honoured Mozzie in a very profound and touching way. The cast, Matt, Tim, and Tiffani, have all said the same thing in multiple interviews.

The rest of the cast are said to be willing to jump aboard too. Everyone is hoping for the reboot to be green-lit.

They have said the same about Diahann Carroll (June).

So that’s good news I personally would prefer to both be alive and joining the cast again, but if wishes were horses… well you know.

3

u/magicbookt 11d ago

Aww yeah I thought I saw about him and that’s cool I guess they could do it in a tasteful manner and honour him for sure

I'm not saying I want this to happen, but can you imagine White Collar Revival made by Tony Gilroy with Andor's budget?

3

u/KingShadowSpectre 11d ago

Haha, you think Disney actually listens...to anyone...ever.

3

u/LadySlippersAndLoons 11d ago

They do listen to money. That I believe.

Sadly, that’s about the only thing the vast majority of people listen to.

-1

u/KingShadowSpectre 11d ago

Exactly, money, no one else, only money. Screw you Disney Corporate, may you rot and woke hell.

0

u/LadySlippersAndLoons 11d ago

Screw all the big corporations that only listen to money. It’s now endemic. 😭

2

u/KingShadowSpectre 11d ago

Hey, some of them aren't as bad as others, and Disney is easily the worst.

1

u/LadySlippersAndLoons 11d ago

Fair enough.

But it’s still not a great thing.

2

u/KingShadowSpectre 11d ago

No, and unfortunately the video game companies suffer from it too, Nintendo is by far the worst console corporation, and there are many video game companies that are producing less quality than much smaller gaming companies.

You guys are literally saying the same thing and your comment added nothing

If White Collar expires September 30, why do I have to pay to view each episode. I just got addicted to White Collar last year, while visiting siblings out of state. I was going to binge watch the seasons I haven't seen yet.😞

Buy physical media

17

u/BajaBlast9 12d ago

I never got rid of my physical media and i'm so glad I didn't. For awhile I did stop buying, but started again. My local library has sales a few times a year. It's part of a friends of group that raises funds for the library. You get good deals on stuff the library no longer uses or things people donate. It's a win-win. Plus thrift shops and flea markets are a good place to look. Not Goodwill, but the local thrift shops. People seem to date better things to them. Also buy nothing local groups on facebook. People giveaway dvds and cds often. Good Luck and share tips if you have any.

In a moment of madness I decided to throw away all my DVD's and I don't think I'll ever stop regretting it.

4

u/LadySlippersAndLoons 12d ago

I've thought about going back to physical media. For a variety of reasons. I just wish they didn't take up so much space.

Illegal streaming>>>

11

u/FlipGordon 12d ago

Bring back physical media being normal again.

5

u/DamianLee666 12d ago

Even illegal streaming sites get shut down and things become harder to find. I personally am a fan of physical media. Be it music, magazines or movies, I like physically owning something, also, if you do physically own something

2

u/Soldier_of_G0D 12d ago

You can illegally download them through telegram and save the files to a cd ,there you go.. you have physical Media

2

u/Sequel_P2P 11d ago

i love when my physical media collection spans fifteen different qualities, six color indexes, four formats and has a variety of subtitles ranging from Delayed For 3 Seconds to Only In Arabic

boxset of this show's five seasons is $34 lol

1

u/Soldier_of_G0D 11d ago

You can get top quality stuff telegram, noneeof that shit that you mentioned in there too.

1

u/Sequel_P2P 10d ago

yeah man everyone's first instinct when sitting down on the couch after work to watch a movie is "wonder what they've got on Telegram? can't wait to spend 12 minutes waiting for this to download only for it to have czech subtitles that are 2 seconds behind"

1

u/Soldier_of_G0D 10d ago

Skill issue ,I get all my shit good quality too from telegram like with no effort but hey i understand you if you can afford it go for it . i can't and this is too easy for me so..

1

u/MooseNew3635 11d ago

yep. bought the complete collection a few years back for like $30

7

u/thetoiletslayer 12d ago

Its also on hulu

13

u/Soccer_Vader 12d ago

How did they ruin anything?

13

u/SummSpn 12d ago

I think they mean because it’s leaving Netflix?

2

u/Steffieweffie81 12d ago

It’s leaving Netflix? That sucks.

3

u/Moffel83 11d ago

The 18-month lease agreement between Netflix and Disney (which was for a bunch of Disney shows, not just White Collar) is coming to an end.

It had been announced from the very beginning that the show would only be on Netflix for 18 months (as would the other shows that were part of this agreement like Lost, HIMYM, etc.).

2

u/Steffieweffie81 11d ago

Thank you for that info!

6

u/Past-Wait6207 12d ago

I’m confused. What’s wrong? That the show is leaving Netflix?

8

u/PrinceDakMT 11d ago

Yeah. People apparently don't get that they aren't permanent 🤷

That's why I bought the series. Now I'll never not have it

4

u/PrinceDakMT 11d ago

Good thing I own the series

3

u/Out_Of_Spirals 11d ago

I'm in the middle of a rewatch myself. Just saw it's gonna gone by the end of the month. That's annoying.

6

u/ITpurpleblue 12d ago

Its on Hulu now too.

10

u/RulerofHoth 12d ago

It's been on Hulu all year actually. That's where I watch.

2

u/Moffel83 12d ago

It's been on Hulu for years. That's not a new thing.

6

u/ejd1984 12d ago

Amazon Prime did the same thing to me when I was rewatching Battlestar Galactica.

Though I grumbled for a few days, did buy the series boxset, and glad that I did.

2

u/Ok-Surround7986 12d ago

I purchased the series on YouTube.

2

u/nayajayap 11d ago

i saw that and started TWEAKING out

2

u/TheMatt561 12d ago

It's funny that you think this is Netflix's fault and not the license holder's

2

u/mmrmaid6 12d ago

I'm so mad that I didn't know it was on Netflix. I've been watching on Hulu with all the annoying effing ads and am in the middle of S6! Watching the last 6 epis on Netflix anyway.

1

u/Pearl-Internal81 12d ago

If I didn’t already have the entire series on iTunes, and it wasn’t also available on Hulu, I’d be pissed.

1

u/Livid_Tax_8078 12d ago

Ugh its so annoying when they do this. I started watching psych a little over a month before it left Netflix and I got through like four seasons or something before it got taken down. I love white collar too its too bad its being taken off.

1

u/THEMACGOD 11d ago

🏴‍☠️

1

u/Lumpy_Tea1347 11d ago

I just bought the whole series on vudu and saved me from playing what streaming service is it on this month.

1

u/Sea-Trade-8818 11d ago

I LOVED THAT SHOW AND WILIE WAS THE BOMB.....

1

u/AB-6407 10d ago

1

u/Beginning-Run-1697 7d ago

I pirate my Tv shows spoiler free🚶

1

u/Competitive_Basil896 5d ago

of course this happens just as my hulu ended.

1

u/jawsofthearmy 12d ago

Sailing the seas is worth it.

1

u/SnooPickles7307 12d ago

It’s possible the the reboot found a home that’s not Netflix so they may then stream original series 🤷‍♂️ I’m just projecting a guess, I’m tempted to get the physical media, Walmart has complete series on Blu-ray

1

u/Electrical_Hunter548 12d ago

I can’t believe this. Why do you have to do this Netflix white collar is like the best show ever. It’s good I am almost finished with it but no rewatches that’s just sad.

2

u/Moffel83 11d ago

It's on Hulu permanently.

1

u/Then_Simple_3400 11d ago

piracy isn't stealing if paying isnt owning

-1

u/SummSpn 12d ago

Sometimes Netflix will say ‘leaving soon’ to get more people to watch. If they get a lot of viewers they might just leave it. If not yet remove it.

I’ve seen this happen several times with movies they said were leaving & then a couple months later I notice the movie is still on Netflix 🤷‍♀️

2

u/Moffel83 12d ago

Netflix bought the streaming rights for 18 months from Disney. April 1st, 2024 - September 30th, 2025. This isn't news, really. It was well reported when Netflix started streaming the show again in 2024.

They bought 18 month streaming licenses for a bunch of Hulu shows back then in a big deal that White Collar was only part of (Lost was another of those shows, for example).

1

u/Warm-Dragonfruit-848 9d ago

I surely hope so because I only purchased Netflix solely for White Collar and Lincoln Lawyer. I will drop Netflix, when White Collar is cancelled.

0

u/Amawrawamahrah 11d ago

Oh nooo I’m in season 3 too and my sisters ex canceled the Hulu membership while I was watching it on there. I hope I’ll finish it before they take it off😭

0

u/saucebossbrisket 11d ago

Bruh 😭 that fucking sucks

1

u/LadySlippersAndLoons 5d ago

If you google White Collar — it shows that Netflix and other streaming services (minus Hulu) are still considering the reboot.

That’s at least good news because there’s still a chance of it restarting.
