Battle Character Scramble 11 Round 3: To Hell and Back

The Character Scramble is a bloodmatch tournament where people compete to analyze unique matchups and scenarios and write the best story they can. At the beginning, everyone submits characters that meet the guidelines, then those characters are randomized and distributed evenly. From then on, each week there's a new writing prompt for everyone to follow. At the end of the week, everyone votes for who they think should advance, until we have our winner at the end. The winner at the end of the tournament gets to choose the theme, tier, and rules of the next scramble, along with a sweet custom flair as their reward. The current theme is based on the anime Shaman King, and the current tier is anywhere from 2/10 to 8/10 Alex Louis Armstrong for Shaman tier and Senator Armstrong for Spirit tier.

After escaping Team Niles trap with your new companions, the next round of the Shaman Fight went smoothly; you beat up some goons, got your cheers from the crowd and moved on. It’d been two days since then and both you and your partner were getting ancy staring at the Oracle Bell. When it finally vibrated, you snatched it up like a flash, scanning the screen. It wasn’t a message from Goldva. It was from someone named S’ati.

Meet me on the riverbank tonight. Bring your companion and your spirit.

After a quick conference with your team, you decide to head to the rendezvous, it was better than sitting around after all.

The stretch of road running alongside the riverbank was spotted with storefronts and houses, most sporting a lit lantern attached to their door that turned the ground a light orange. A brown haired girl stood in the center of the street, flanked by several others in black robes. Safe money was on this being her.

“I am the one who called you here.” She began, “my name is Sati.”

Cha-ching.

“You seek the commune with the Great Spirit and become to the Shaman King, but at your current level you are far too weak.”

Makes you walk all the way out here when you should be sleeping and then insults you? Not off to a good start.

“We wish to fully prepare you for the upcoming rounds. Please, grant us this simple request. Fight me. The only way you will be ready is if you are shown true hell.” Sati said.

By the time you’d readied yourself, you’d already been hit. A quick shot to the stomach from a staff you hadn’t even seen her draw. There wasn’t much force behind the swing, so you weren’t terribly worried about the damage; until you heard her chanting.

“Mujyojinjinmi-myoho! Hakusen-mangonan-sougu-gakonken-monto-kujyuji-gangenyo-raishin-jitsugi-shujo-muhenseigando-bonnojinsei-gantan-hommonnmuryo-seigangaku-butsudojyo-seiganjyo…”

In the time it took you to blink, the street was replaced with a massive gate. The smell of rot and decay filled the air as the gate creaked open. A red oni, tall enough it had to duck to step through the gate, signaled for you to follow him inside. He spoke with a deep voice, giving you a rundown of what was to come as he led you down the hallway

“Every Shaman that wants to be the Shaman King has to come through here. It’s not a very nice place. If your spirit wavers for a second, you’re done.”

You had to ask the obvious question. Where, exactly, “here” is.

“Hell.” The Oni replied, matter-of-factly as you reached the end of the hallway.

Another large door stood sentinel as he placed his hand on it. “Don’t panic though, there’s a way out.” With a grunt he pushed the gate open. A free-standing set of stairs led upwards to a floating plane. Jagged peaks surrounded the battlefield, waiting for any unfortunate soul to slip. “Tokatsu Jigoku, the battlefield Hell. Head up those stairs and take on your opponents, should be one for each of you. Fight until one of your dies, then the way back to the world of the living will be made clear.” The oni pulled the door closed and left you with the silence of Hell.

Wasting no time, you took your first step up the stairs.

Normal Rules:

The Great Spirit Has Summoned You : But who are you? Give a brief summary of your characters.

There is Plenty of Time to Tell the Tale : In this season of new things, we're going to try something else; Post Limits. From the Prelim Round on there will be a limit of 80,000 characters/8 full Reddit posts growing as the Scramble progresses. Please keep in mind analysis/intros DO NOT count toward this limit.

But the Great Spirit is Restless : You have 14 days to complete your Round post and continue to the Shaman Fight. Writeups will be due in the AM (lol yeah right) hours of 4/29

Round Specific Rules

Makoto Nijima, The Phantom Queen of Hearts

An overrated romance option from Persona 5 who gets her spotlight stolen by a character who doesn't really exist. Not as hot as her sister.

Thanos, The Mad Titan

The funny purple meme man from the newest Iron Man movie. All around good dad. Objectively in the right.

Nami, The Cat Burglar

The fourth hottest straw hat pirate. An L-A-D-Y, Nami's not shy. Makes it rain, holla holla. Except but literally.

Conor McGregor, The Notorious

Conor Anthony McGregor (Irish: Conchúr Antóin Mac Gréagóir;[9] born 14 July 1988) is an Irish professional mixed martial artist and boxer. He is the former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) featherweight and lightweight champion.[10]

Dante, Traveller of the Burning Abyss

A Rank 3 Light Warrior XYZ Monster. An unfunny reference none of you will get. Will never be banned.

Makoto pointed her revolver between Kenan and Toki. "What's going on? Who are you?"

Kenan looked down at her gun, unimpressed. "Kenan Kong, Super-Man of China? Let me guess, you've never heard of me."

"No, never," Makoto shook her head. "And your friend?"

"My name is Toki." He raised his hand. "Nice to meet you, Miss Nijima."

Nami had started to retreat up the stairs, slowly. "Hey, Queen. Get back."

Makoto looked over her shoulder. "What? Why are you acting like that? They're just shaman's like us."

"It's not the shaman's I'm worried about."

Kenan and Toki both directed their gaze to Doflamingo. He was smiling as wide as ever. "Well, isn't this just proof their is a God? Cat Burglar Nami, 66 Million Berry Bounty, one of the Straw Hat pirates." He shoved his hands into his coat pocket. "Aren't you glad to see me again?"

Name's eyes were flitting about, looking for... something. "Makoto, bring out Mad Titan, that's the spirit of a total psycho. If Doflamingo's even half as strong as he was when were alive-"

In the next moment, Doflamingo was behind Nami. Her next step bumped into his legs. "Fuhhuhhuhhuh, you think I got weaker? Now that's funny!"He raised his leg and put the sole of his sandal to Nami's back before shoving her tumbling down the stairs.

Makoto whirled around, tucking her gun into her holster and raising her fists. "Stand down, spirit. Or I'll put you down."

Doflamingo hunched over and leaned in close. "You want to take a swing, little girl? I'll give it to you for free. Go ahead."

"That's enough, Donquixote." Toki helped Nami to her feet and bowed his head. "I apologize for him."

Nami glared up the stairway. "Your spirit is a monster, Toki. He's a tyrant. One of the worst in the world!"

"Who are you to judge me?" Doflamingo turned his attention from Makoto back down to Nami. "A child like you doesn't know anything about what it's like to be me. In my shoes. Everything I've done is what's deserved! It's what I've earned! My rank, my title, my position, everything I am, I made me. And you're just.... nothing."

Makoto saw her shot, and she took it. With a practiced step, and a forceful swing, she threw her gauntleted fist straight for Donquixote's jaw. Around her arm, the faint silhouette of a golden gauntlet appeared. "Oversoul: [Inevitable Infinity]!"

Her aim was true. Donquixote didn't have a chance to react to her strike. One clean blow, spirit to spirit.

And yet she stopped.

Makoto looked at her arm in shocked silence. Donquixote's grin widened. "Oh, look at that, the little kitten was too busy with her warnings to tell you what I can actually do." Over his sunglasses, he glanced at Nami. "Some navigator, leading your little friend into my trap!"

"Doflamingo, that's enough. Leave the women alone or be banished back to the space within."

"Titan!"

Behind Makoto appeared her spirit. The golden armoured Titan, while an imposing figure in his own right, was still a head shorter than Doflamingo. He sneered. "Release the girl, she is under my protection."

Doflamingo shrugged. "And if I don't? Am I supposed to be scared of you?"

Thanos pulled back his hand to strike. Doflamingo's grin widened. With a small tilt of the head, Makoto was hauled between the two spirits. "It looks like we're at a standstill, doesn't it? So why don't you and the little rogue run off now, or the Queen here goes down the stairs in pieces?"

"Actually!" Sati and her bus boomed down on them. "No running from this one! Sudden death elimination only! Only one team gets to walk out of here alive, the other team gets to be murder-hell-deathed for eternity! And also has to get killed! By the winner!"

Toki turned towards his teammate. "Kenan, do you remember all that I taught you about how to call to your spirit in this world?"

"Uh, yeah kinda, been working on it."

"I'm afraid we're going to have to pass on that. I need you and King of Darkness to quell my spirit."

Kenan cocked his eyebrow. "Can't you just unspirit him or whatever? Put him back inside you?"

"I've been trying to cut him off from my Matoki, but I believe extended time providing him has given him a reserve to work through without my direct support."

"... Like a battery?" Kenan scratched his head. "Whatever, I'll just get the big guy out here and we'll stomp Doflamingo, no problem."

"Allow me to speed up that process."

Toki took a deep breath. In a flash, he lashed out and tapped two fingers to one of the triangles on Kenan's costume. That instant, Kenan felt a surge of power coursing through his body. Doubling, no, tripling the amount of Qi working through his system. He could see for miles, hear for miles, he could feel every atom as it brushed past his skin. This was the power of Super-Man!

It overwhelmed him and he quickly passed out.
