What are your favourite Riesling for under 20€?
Hey everyone :D Still pretty new to the wine hobby.
I want to dive deeper into Riesling. Can you recommend me some nice ones with good value for money? I live in Germany so it should be pretty easy for me to get most of these.
Most should be under 20€ but i am also open for some bangers that are more expensive.
I love when they are produced as natural as possible.
Thank you :)

Under 20 you can get any Gutswein from VDP-producers and some Ortsweine. Recommend to start with one or two producers from the different areas such as Nahe, Rheingau, Pfalz, Rheinhessen, Mosel.
- Dönnhoff
- Knipser
- Clemens Busch
- Robert Weil
- St Antony
If you want high class, somewhat natural producer without too much funk try Schätzel.

As natural as possible? Peter Jakob Kühn and Clemens Busch. If you just want a good ass Riesling, just look for VDP Gutswein. All of them will deliver great quality

I would recommend you buy a range of the entry level wines from different producers to get a sense of their house style. Do you like it more fruit driven? Or more minerally?
Amazing suggestions here already. My personal favorites are Robert Weil, Bassermann-Jordan, Dönnhoff, Molitor, JJ Prüm, Grünhaus, Müller-Catoir, Molitor and Clemens-Busch.

I definitely prefer minerally tasting wines but i am open for everything :))
I drank a few Chardonnays from France in the last weeks and i loved the minerality some of these wines had to offer. I wish they were cheaper tho .. Thats one reason i want to dive deaper into Riesling. I feel like the value for money is much better.

Julian Haart J.J. is one of my favorite Rieslings overall, and also happens to be under 20€

• Trimbach should have at least one under 20-25 €. Alsace-style.
• Katharina Wechsler makes delicious trocken. Some around 20-25 €. Rheinhessen.
•Mueller-Catoir has a pfalz called Haardt that usually comes out great each year and should be available pretty soon in September. 20-25€.
You could also chase down a Croatian graševina. They can have the same acidity and style as a more expensive Riesling, but usually they are dirt cheap. Grasevina is usually called ”Italian Riesling” or ”banatriesling” of their similar taste and feel. Not the same grape though.

Ive seen a lot of good ones, the one I didnt see yet is schloss johannisberg gelblack trocken (rheingau).
Do have to add that pricing depends on place i guess ive seen it fluctuate from 17-24 so around the 20€ price point

Oh what a coincidence. I already drunk this riesling some months ago. It was lovely! Also had some feinherb from Schloss Johannisberg, forgot which one, which was also awesome. It had some nice peach notes.

Yes the feinherb is also the gelblack from johannisberg they make a 'trocken' and feinherb as their entry level wines.
The silberlack is also reallyy good with some more nutty richness because of aging on the lees

If you like a natural wine, try the seckinger Riesling. It’s biodynamic. I had a 2022 bottle and it was great. €10-15 depending on where you buy

Kloster Neustift (Abbazia di Novacella) - my all time favourite winery. They produce excellent Riesling and Gewürztraminer, along with one of the best Müller Thurgau vintages I’ve tasted.

Maybe no longer below 20, but heymann Löwenstein makes great Riesling. Their Riesling F should come in around that price point.

I like Australian and Finger Lakes Riesling for this price range. However, still lots of good German/Austrian/Alsacian Rieslings under $20. Entry level cuvées from Von Winning and Donnhoff would be a safe bet

Not exactly Riesling but the Cuvée from Hiestand - Riesling/Scheurebe is one of the best i ever had

I’m no connoisseur, but Joh. Bapt. Schäfer Riesling Trocken is still the single most enjoyable glass of white wine I’ve had in my life.

Max Kilburg's Kabinetts are exceptional. Ohligsberg tends to excel in warm vintages and Goldtropfchen tends to excel in cool ones.

Lucashof Kabinett Forster Riesling has been one of my go to’s this summer. A sweet, refreshing wine with some good minerality, and a petrol bomb on the nose. It is just wonderful. Edit: Under $20 in the states

Beck-Hartweg Grand Cru Frankstein is exceptional if you can get it.
Just over the river Rhine from you.

There’s a lot of good to really good rieslings below and well below 20$
If we also consider how easy they are to get hold of my picks would be (only listed the producers)
Sure, they are mainstream but still very good and very easy to find.
