General Wood Stove Question Is this stove too small?
I’m considering moving this to the other end of the house, and getting a bigger one here. What considerations should I think about? Recently bought a home with this stove in it. I love it but it looks small here.

That’s probably a 5inch liner, larger stoves usually need 6inch and above so a new one will need fitting. That will require hetas engineer or building regs sign off if you do it yourself(usually around £300)
If your in a smoke control zone you will need a defra approved one, if buying used you can look at exempt appliances on the defra website as some models are approved to be used in smoke control areas but not defra certified
Check room size and heat output, you don’t want one too big

Right, so room size dictates size of stove instead of alcove size, thank you. It’s 5.0kw, big enough for the room.
Will probably leave it then and get a smaller one for the other side of the house.
Not in a smoke controlled zone. In rural Scotland.
Thanks for your response

Correct unless it has a back boiler then you can get a larger one as most of the heat isn’t to the room itself

Its not too small if its heating the room to 85F. If it was the Only Source of heat then reconsideration might be needed, as an auxiliary source ours is "too small" for whole house but perfect for the cathedral ceiling and front rooms.

It’s too small if it doesn’t heat the room enough in Winter.
