Comic Discussion This moment between Emma and Kitty always be sweet
Marauders #5
It’s just so cute and really highlights how Kitty doesn’t see Emma as a villain or a terrible person anymore. And Emma trying to comfort Kitty the best she can while still having some of her usual snark is perfect

They've come a long way since Kitty's return to the mansion in Astonishing.

Yeah I'm reading the arc now, and it's fun to see that change happen, but still callbacks to the Claremont era relationships like Storms love for her and so on.

Astonishing is how I got into X-Men comics, and Messiah Trilogy.

tbf, she doesn't seem to imply that Emma would have been BETTER, just that she wonders sometimes what it would have been like.
The answer, of course, being that Selene would have murdered her, but still.

Yeah, that's actually a pretty insensitive question to ask Emma, b/c they both know what happened to the Hellions team Kitty would have joined: Murdered by a chump. (Though wasn't it Fitzroy, not Selene?)

I was under the impression it was part of a power grab on Selene's part, meaning that it may not have been her hands but it was her orders? Could be misremembering tho.

right? everyone (kitty included) knows she'd die, just like the other hellions did 💀

Like I know that a big part of the x-men comics mission statement at this point is “suck up to Emma at all times because she’s the most perfect girlboss ever”, but really? No one thought that that particular comparison set in that particular time that lead to a particular horrible event might not make the point they’re hoping it will?

I used to dislike Kitty but ever since Krakoa and Exceptional X-Men and her and Emma being so close she became one of my favourites
Also the moment of her resurrection and Emma hugging her was pure art

The whole Proteus slip up makes me wonder how many other people got "upgrades" when they got resurrected.
Like Emma would get all her work made real is an obvious one but if all it takes is Prometheus trying NOT to think of stuff then a lot of the x gals are coming back with bigger boobs and/or bigger asses lol.

Proteus didn't accidentally upgrade Laura/X-23/Wolverine because he couldn't help thinking of a stray or intrusive thought. He did it because he thought she and Logan both had fully adamantium coated skeletons and no one knew he'd assumed that, so no one thought to correct him. He offered to undo it, but they decided to ask Laura after she was resurrected. She, unsurprisingly, was okay with keeping the full set instead of just the claws.
After Quentin Quire got away with asking for mods, Emma did file a request to be resurrected with her cosmetic surgery made into her natural appearance. Generally the Five were okay with a short list that wasn't considered overly frivolous -- Quentin managed to exhaust their patience on both counts to the point where they threatened to pin him to the very end of the resurrection queue if he didn't cut it the F out.

It's funny how he started out with a reasonable one; come back with naturally pink hair. But then it evolved into "and let my toenails stop growing at a certain length because I'm too lazy to trim them", like I would've threatened him too for that.

It's actually super surprising/out of character for Laura to keep the bones. Seeing as A: They damper healing factors as her body is now constantly fighting off poisonous metal.
B: She fights like a ballerina, jumping and moving tactically and they just added several hundred pounds of metal to her, which would fuck all that up.
And C: Having things done to her body without her permission are massive trauma flags for her. It felt more like the writer didn't know she didn't have metal bones, wrote around it, was told he was wrong and just retconned them in.

To be fair as far as A and B goes.
The healing being dampered is barely adressed and never rlly seems to matter, and all that weight really doesn't seem to matter in practice.
They have given 0 reason to believe it's a downgrade, other than swimming that one time ig.

They have spent a ton of time on the woe is me for Logan about it, depending on the solo. Laura really hasn't had any comics that really spend time with her thoughts on it. Even her own solo series has had a guest star for every single issue, so not a lot of self reflection going on.

I forgot Emma specifically requested for her surgery to be made natural lmao, I was thinking it was because Proteus just didn’t know what she looked like without it 😂

I've never actually seen a panel (or even data page) of her requesting that, and pretty sure that I would have if it existed. It would have been posted multiple times on reddit for one.
There was one data page regarding this for Quire, but that is all I know about.

IIRC, Hope threatened Emma that the next time Emma died, she'd be brought back with her original nose. Also Emma isn't a natural blonde and she was blonde when she came out of the egg.

In Immortal X-Men #10 she is resurrected and has natural blonde hair (she was naturally a brunette before, like both her parents) and the nose she had pre-resurrection, which was canonically the result of a nose job. It was a rushed resurrection during an emergency. Ergo, she must have left instructions as to changes from her natural genome to create the changes in her natural appearance. This is foreshadowed by her telling Kate she was afraid to die because she didn't know what nose she'd come back with. It isn't shown on-panel as far as I know, but clearly she took steps between talking to Kate and the resurrection to allay her fears.

The relationship between Emma and Kate in Krakoa was top tier. Emma did so much for Kate, especially during Krakoa (and yet in Exceptional X-Men #10, Emma still says she hasn’t done enough and that Kate will never fully forgive her. That kind of self-criticism and refusal to see her redemption as “finished” makes me love and respect Emma even more).
It really feels like during Krakoa and now in From the Ashes, Kate has become like a daughter to Emma — maybe even closer to her than Scott ever was.

Emma still says she hasn’t done enough and that Kate will never fully forgive her
That moment emotionally wrecked me , I don't care how much of a villain she was in the past, what she's done and what she is still doing since Generation X should be enough to make her forgive herself but she still doesn't especially towards Kitty which hurts even worse because she is her closest friend
And yes this is exactly why I love Emma because even after 30 years of being on the " good side " she is still making amends for the 10 years she was a villain and she is one of the few redeemed heroes who doesn't shy away from her darker past

Love this but the last panel was unusual because did Kitty forgot what kind of person Emma was back when they first met?

I loved how these two interacted. Seeing their history playing together does wonders for both characters.
I really liked how, while Kitty was dead, Emma had a great monologue about needing her back because she helped Emma try to be better, and without her all her darker impulses were just waiting to be indulged.
