Other [Article] Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld has been trying to tell his definitive Cable story for the past 35 years, but he and Marvel keep breaking up
36 years ago, Marvel Comics asked a 22-year-old artist to create a new leader for a flagging X-Men spin-off team. Although he wasn't the writer, he created a weathered cyborg soldier from the future carrying a secret from the past named Cable, with writer Louise Simonson. Cable quickly became one of the key pillars in the early '90s X-Men glow-up and one of the quickest comics-to-adaptation transitions, as within two years, he was a key part of X-Men: The Animated Series. And while he became more well-known for his other major Marvel creation in Deadpool, Liefeld has carried a Cable story in his head since his creation, intended to be the definitive Cable story.
In this week's Marvel Matters, I dive into the complicated decades-long history of Cable's unpublished story as told by Rob Liefeld.
In 2000, Rob Liefeld got close to telling his Cable story with an announced series called Cable: First Contact. That project fell through; however, some illustrations from it were in a 2004 X-Force series with Fabien Nicieza, but Liefeld's definitive Cable story remained untold. In 2023, Marvel re-announced Cable: First Contact as part of a wave of new stories by Liefeld and Marvel.
"This is a story I’ve wanted to tell for 33 years," Liefeld wrote on Instagram in 2023. "I’m finally getting the chance to talk of Cable’s adventures in early mutant history!"

Movie/TV Discussion Trask in the timeline
I know I shouldn't question the timeline of the X-Men movies but, if in the dystopian future of DAYS OF A FUTURE PAST it is said that Trask was killed by Mystique in the Vietnam War peace accords (1973) why in the original X-MEN TRILOGY (2000s) that comes before the future of DAYS OF A FUTURE PAST(2023) Trask is still alive, does not have dwarfism and is a black man?

Comic Discussion How Rogue could've been made into the ultimate mutant superweapon/god during the Krakoan Age
This is just a fun thought I had when reading through Krakoa; I’m somewhat new to X-Men so I'm curious if this would actually work how I imagine it, so please lmk if I’m misunderstanding anything. Honestly maybe Mr. Sinister has already done this before, would not be surprised - it would certainly take a severe lack of ethics or desperate times.
So in resurrection, they’ve got two parts, the husk and the soul/mind. Rogue’s whole thing is she absorbs powers and minds right, and that if she holds on long enough she can absorb them permanently - cool since she can gain more powers, but not great since it fractures her psyche. With resurrection however, in HoX it’s stated that the husk contains the mutant’s powers since it’s a part of their genetics. So what if:
Rogue is resurrected as a husk, no Cerebro download yet
Make a bunch of husks are made of mutants whose powers you would want Super-Rogue to have - say for example a Jean Grey, a Storm, a Forge, a Magneto, a Manifold, a Wolverine/Sabretooth/other healing factor, an Unus, an Iceman, and heck why not even a Darwin and a Synch for good measure for a nice lil nigh-omnipotent nigh-omniscient unkillable hyper-intelligent adaptable multi-Omega mutant
Guide Rogue-husk to touch and permanently absorb the powers of all these other husks (none of them have minds yet so the whole mind absorption thing should be no problem)
Edit a backup of Rogue's mind to combine it with the skill aspects/memories/training from all the other mutants' minds so she will know how to use their powers and not like accidentally kill herself, because she might be the only one capable of actually doing that once this is done
Upload updated mind to new Rogue-super-husk
Success, new OP mutant created? And you don't even have to worry about her ending up like Legion with a thousand personalities, cuz she's got the same personality and memories as before! Still a good guy, still loves Gambit, the whole shebang. Orchis will be eradicated within the hour! Nimrod who?
In effect it's sort of like Sinister's chimeras and Rasputin IV, but you don't have to deal with all the tricky gene-editing stuff that leads to breakdown and non-viability and can just let Rogue's magic power handle it; and you can probably do many more powers than Rasputin IV without much issue.
Or, honestly you might not even need to use Rogue's mind. Maybe you can even edit a mind-copy of someone else who's more used to insane power like Magneto or Storm or smth and use them instead, if Rogue's mind couldn't handle it. There's a lot of Omega telepaths around, I'm sure they can figure out how to do that right?

Movie/TV Discussion I think X2 is overrated
There isn’t really much of a big battle of any sorts, all they’re doing is trying to stop Xavier from being tricked into committing genocide. The battle in Alcatraz in the next movie is more climactic than that. The Last Stand is not the best movie, but it does have more decent action.

Question Magneto taking iron supplements
I remember reading in an issue that Magneto takes a nearly lethal dose of iron supplements/pills so that he can use them as a last resort.
Anyone know what I'm talking about? I've tried finding it through Google and nothing.

Movie/TV Discussion What would be your dream X-Men film?
So, due to Doomsday coming up and while rewatching the X-Men movies, I've been pondering a lot about what the best MCU X-Men film could / should be. My dream scenario in my head feels partly bloated but I do kinda enjoy it, but I'm curious: what would you guys pitch as your "perfect X-Men film" scenario? Whether it is line-up(s), villain(s), plot, visuals, inspirations... What do you guys think would be the best things for a fun X-Men film?
To pitch quickly my idea in mind: when it comes to the MCU, I'd love for it to be a trilogy set in Earth-828 (the universe in which the new Fantastic Four film is set) culminating in the Dark Phoenix saga for the third one, which is very inspired by Claremont. My reason why I want it in the Earth-828 is that it just makes a lot of sense for me: in the new FF film, the Fantastic Four are clearly treated as "larger-than-life", lauded superheroes who are respected by the community. I think it would be a neat contrast with the X-Men who would be doubted and distrusted by the larger community, and it would create an interesting "edge" (not in a grimdark sense) for this 60s inspired-world and it would get the X-Men back to their Civil Rights, 70s roots. It might be a me thing, though!
The line-up would be the O5 + Storm (all highschool age in the first film), Wolverine, Emma and Xavier ; with Cyclops and Jean being the main characters. Mr. Sinister would be the main villain for the first one and stay a recurring character, just like Magneto and the Brotherhood.
And finally, main inspirations (when it comes to the visuals that is, since I'd love it to be somewhat accurate to comics) I have three point of references: French New Wave, queer coming-of-age stories like My Home Private Idaho, Hair, Gregg Araki movies and more "classical" coming-of-age films (The Holdovers, Dead Poets Society, Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off...)
Anyways, here's my pitch! Curious to see what would you guys think! (And mods, feel free to remove this if it doesn't fit the rules)

Question Question about how Logan ends up in Madripoor during his first solo run
I’m currently reading Marvel Presents: Wolverine as part of my X-Men reading order. I’m backtracking a bit since I got caught up reading Inferno.
Logan makes references to meeting a man named Chapel who tells him to “save the tiger”, thus ending up in Madripoor. Could anyone remind me the issue where this happens? I’ve tried to be fairly exhaustive during the reading order but I tend to forget small details here & there. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Question Is Grant Morrison’s New X-Men run self-contained?
I’m looking to get more into the collabs between Morrison and Quietly. I know they had a run on X-Men in the early 2000s but I was wondering if it can function within itself as a stand alone run.

Question Help me find a cover (?) please !!
I have been trying to find a specific X-Men cover (at least I'm pretty sure it's a cover?) for a bit now with no luck😭 It kind of looks like it could be the front of a brochure for the school? And it has Charles and some of the students in the front, but only the ones that pass as human (or their non-human traits are hidden) so it makes it look "normal" ig. I want to find it so bad but all the keywords I've been typing into google are turning up nothing lol so I thought I'd try here; fingers crossed lol
