Other ELI5: Why TikTok/Instagram videos don't need releases like in TV?

Upvotes

In television, producers need appearance releases to show people's faces/names/likeness - even if filmed in a public space.

My understanding is that's because film+television are for commercial use and is made to generate revenue...but nowadays content creators are making money off of their content - is that not commercial use? do they not have a "personal brand" that they are generating revenue for?

I don't understand why the world is a content creator's playground for generating their own revenue, but those rules are different for film and tv. What's the difference?

Promo Sunday Memori Note - Built the anti-hoarding notes app with a scrolling feature - Rediscover what you forgot you loved -- -- Promo-code Giveaway*!

Upvotes

Hi all,

We're all digital hoarders. Screenshots of quotes, bookmarked videos, saved Instagram posts - thousands of pieces of inspiration just rotting in folders we never open.

I had 400+ random notes on Google Keep and couldn't find anything when I actually needed motivation, buried under all sort of random notes. Sound familiar?

Memori Notes breaks the hoarding cycle:

🔀 Shuffle button - Random note appears instantly (no scrolling through archives)

📱 Swipe interface - Browse your collection like TikTok, but it's YOUR content (no any other note app does this)

⏰ Smart/quick reminders - You can set a reminder for a note in 3 simple clicks, with unique ''random date/time'' buttons to reduce decision fatigue during quick saves/notes.

✨ Clean design and customise it however you want, don't like the look of the app with round corners? No problem, you can make it all square. < The only app that I know that does this.

The psychology: We save things hoping future-us will remember. This app actually makes that happen.

I use my own app daily because it's genuinely addictive seeing what past-me thought was worth saving, getting daily inspiration and cool quotes that you saved, and if you are bored, you can simply scroll through your cool quotes as opposed to dead scrolling on Instagram or TikTok.

Built for people who love collecting inspiration but suck at revisiting it.

[App Store]

Be honest - when's the last time you actually went back and read something you saved for 'later'?"

Any genuine feedback will be greatly appreciated and explanation of how you will use the app/how it will help you, will be rewarded with a lifetime code

*Promo codes will not be given straight away to people who just ask for promo-code, as that is a waste for people who will actually use the app, so first, please download, see if you like the app and give genuine feedback here, what you like/don't like about the app, any improvements and how will you use the app.

Discussion I dont understand The Godfather hype

Upvotes

And it's not like I don't like it because it's old, my all time favs include Raging Bull, One Flew Over the Coockoo's Nest or Amadeus.. But The Godfather seems like someone who hasn't seen many movies gets asked about his fav, and they say The Godfather, just because it's a safe pick. I don't think it's a bad movie, I really like Michael's development, the choice of actors and the acting, but I just feel like there's nothing happening for half and hour and then something blows up, and that #2 in imdb's top 250 seems TOO high.. Thoughts?

Product Announcement TimeTracker – A self-hosted, Docker-ready team time tracker with persistent timers, billing, and reporting

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’d like to share TimeTracker, a self-hosted time tracking application that I built for freelancers and small teams who prefer control over their data and a reliable offline solution.

What TimeTracker Does

  • Persistent timers: Server-side timers survive browser closes and reboots.
  • No cloud dependency: Fully self-hosted in Docker—ideal for Raspberry Pi or any Linux box.
  • Team features: Supports multiple users, roles (admin & regular), project and client organization, and billing support.
  • Comprehensive reporting: Project- and user-based time breakdowns, CSV exports for external analysis.
  • Responsive interface: Built with Flask, HTMX, and live WebSocket updates.

Why I Built It

Existing tools either lose your timer or lock you into cloud services. I wanted something simple, reliable, and offline-friendly—especially useful if you're off the grid, privacy conscious, or just want total control.

Who It’s For

  • Freelancers tracking billable hours on their own terms
  • Small teams who prefer LAN or Pi-based solutions
  • Consultants needing quick reports without internet access
  • Anyone who wants full ownership of their time data

How to Try It

  1. Clone the repo and configure .env (copy .env.example)
  2. Run it via Docker Compose: docker-compose up -d
  3. Visit http://<your-pi-ip>:8080 and start tracking in seconds!

Full instructions, screenshots, and the README are on GitHub.

What’s Next

I’m planning mobile apps, integrations (Zapier, Slack), richer analytics, and internationalization. Feedback and contributions are welcome!

Would love your thoughts—especially on usability, feature requests, or ideas for integrations!

Cheers,
DRYTRIX

Turn off Alarm clock alarm when away from home?

Upvotes

I am going to go ahead and buy a physical alarm clock to wake me up in the morning instead of using my phone, as it’s just much more reliable, in terms of my phone being dead in the morning or the volume being turned down or whatever. But the issue is that I have with those physical alarm clocks is that if you leave on vacation or whatever and you forget to turn off the alarm. It will just go off and there’s no way to turn it off.

Is there a way I can use the Bluetooth integration within a home assistant so that way if I forget I can use home assistant to turn off the alarm clock alarm?

I do not think this is possible, but was looking to get the Emerson brand of clock. I already have a Bluetooth dongle from back when I was using HA in VBox, I just need to set it up with Proxmox as I never had a use until now.
